Hockey is increasingly crash and bang with dirty goals and deflections taking place of skillful plays. As much as I’d prefer to see a more skill-based sport, this is the reality we have.

Tall and heavy players who can skate are the best players to use as filler.
It's kinda an interesting cycle at a macro level. ~15 years ago teams plucked all the low-hanging moneypuck fruit by signing smaller and/or soft forwards who had perceptible flaws but drove shot share, and began valuing smalling defencemen who weren't super physical but had great puck skills because teams were full of lumbering slow forwards and a lot of the big physical D had hands of stone.

Now we're coming full circle where teams are emulating Vegas by building a physical, skilled, rangy, and mobile defence group to counter all these smaller skill forwards who can't forecheck against 6'3 D who can skate and don't handle the puck like a live grenade, so we're going back to bigger forwards and that's threatening all the smaller defencemen who were uplifted in the corsi era because now the big guys can all skate and handle the puck too. It's really kinda crazy to think that in just 10 or so years we went from a point where the archetypical 1st round DFD prospect was a Luke Schenn/Mike Komisarek type to guys like Guhle.
