HF Habs: Out of Town Thread: 2024-2025 season

There were 3 games involving 2 EC teams today and yet again 2 were decided in OT. Plus Habs got a pt, Flyers won, CBJ won. The "mixer" is spinning full speed.

Canucks played last night and didn't get into Toronto until after Noon today. No problem though with the Leafs tonight, Nucks completely shut them down 3-0, Leafs only had about 20 shots. Most impressive defensive player for Vancouver?...Elias Pettersson, 4 or 5 great plays including blocked shots. Myers was good too. And Quinn Hughes is a beauty. Leafs didn't even bother to pull the goaltender at the end. Great team win for the Nucks.

The Canucks failed to capitalize on a habs team coming back from their road trip, then they mustered 14 shots in Carolina for their next game. Carolina was playing their 5th game in 7 days and had tokarski in net.

So I'm guessing the Canucks were a combination of angry and probably fresher than they should have been due to the no show in Carolina.

Kappo Kakko is now 7 pts in 10 games. He didnt had a really chance in my mind in New York. Seattle didnt pay a lot to grab him.

Today:
Detroit plays Seattle
Pittsburgh plays Tampa
Dallas plays Ottawa

Depending on how those games go, the Habs could drop as many as 3 spots in the standings.

The out of town scoreboard has not been kind to Montreal the last few days, so hopefully that turns around here.

For me, the Canucks were full marks for the win last night. They were like dog on bone with the puck all game. Was trying to think of one Leaf player that stood out, could only come up with Tanev. Welcome to a game in TO, the Leafs got all three powerplays,. The one penalty on Toronto the ref had to call because it was directly in front of him and the Nucks scored on the delayed call 6 on 5. Impressive to see the Leafs shut down offensively like that.

He's had hot streaks before. I still think the best he's going to be is a 40 pt winger.

Leafs and Canadiens will get PP's against the other Canadian teams. Against US teams they won't.

Seattle is crap but that may be due to the coach. Detroit wins easily. Stars are scum. They will sleep through today's game.

Not sure why people expect us to make the playoffs. We don't have the experience and we are still lacking some key pieces. I sure do hope KH is more grounded to earth than the fans and acts accordingly at the TDL. The point this year was to fight for a playoffs spot after december which we are.

If the $97m cap for next year is true (reported by Allan Walsh) then Toronto is going to have no problems signing all of Marner, Tavares & Knies. Colorado should be able to sign Rantanen, too.

That's a huge jump and that can't happen without the approval of NHLPA, which means Walsh has inside information that they have decided to approve it.

CDN $ lost 7% in the last 4 months so gate revenue must be down in Canada.

I'd be cautious and set an internal cap at 92. Leafs have no choice though.

Ducks lost 6-0 :slaugh:

Before the 1st game they played, Gauthier said he circled it on his calendar (Ducks lost that one too).

It's not expecting as much as it is hoping.

The hope stems from their convincing play against a murderer's row of opponents in tight scheduling conditions, almost all of which have been played on the road.

The other big hope factor is when you look at the teams competing with Montreal for those particular spots. They aren't exactly well tuned machines either.

4 minutes in Wings already lead 2 nothing.

Is it me or the western conf. sucks ?

After two months, people were asking the opposite.

Seattle was barely a .500 team 10 games ago, they have only been dropping since. Detroit + new coach buff would be a better team. Unfortunately.

There’s not as much parity in the Western Conference. In the NHL (by points %) they have 6 of the top 7 teams right now and, also, 5 of the bottom 6 teams.
I did a quick calculation and the Eastern conf teams are 144-113-29 vs the west so far .

It’s close though because of OT/shootout points. The West is 142-113-31 against the East.

Detroit’s plan was always interesting to me — they had a long rebuild ahead of them but also didn’t want to bottom out and risk losing fans (income) and losing their culture. The compromise was to keep a respectable team by any means necessary — which involves signing UFAs to medium term deals.

I’m most interested to see how Yzerman swings for more “core” pieces. I mean, that’s the whole thing.

The Habs nailing it with Hutson was a game changer — the Red Wings need some luck like that and they’re doing well.
