Man are the Sabres freaking pathetic. Feels like that franchise is never going to turn the corner
I honestly can't understand it. One to one their roster has better pieces than almost every team in the east yet they're competing with us for last place year after year. Half the guys they trade becomes a key piece on a cup winner. ROR, eichel, Reinhart.

Even just in pro/amateur scouting they found so many guys who had success after leaving. Ullmark, McCabe, Rodrigues, Montour, etc.

They have multiple #1d, a massive #1 c, depth scoring, decent goaltenders. I don't see how they can be so bad. There's no glaring obvious hole like with the sens.

We should buy low on Cozens or one of their d. Too many underperformers waiting to explode.

Experience. Buffalo currently has the youngest team in the league with the second less played amount of games. Two less games than the Habs...and both team are like 1000 less games than 3rd position and half the team with the most games played.

For all the player move, Buffalo has a lower internal cap because of a cheap owner, which means they often trade players or lose them to UFA. Or those players asked to be traded like Eichel, it just doesn't always make the news.

Because NHL is the ultimate TEAM game requiring depth throughout a lineup not a collection of top end skilled individuals …. and the glue guy concept GMs like to use when referencing successful teams having, is a real thing, albeit a black art to identify.

Buf doesn’t have that “glue guy” on their team they so desperately need, neither do Sens or Ana..

I would expect the Bruins to do no more than a retool. They just have too many long term commitments to go full rebuild.

Yeah, I think next year could be different with some tinkering. Swayman will have a full camp and should hit thr ground running. We see time and time again how holdouts struggle when they come back.

I was puzzled with the lindholm signing. When I saw him in Vancouver, he seemed like a good 2 way player in the playoffs but he was not a guy I would bank alot of offense from. However, the bruins paid him like he would be.

For a full scale rebuild, I think we will first have to see the neely/Sweeney regime to be gone as well. Until that point, my opinion doesn't change.

Swayman : 21 games, 3.27 goals allowed, 885 save %. :thumbu:
8.25 per year…
Epic burn from the main boards, in case anyone hasn't seen it yet.

I'm not sure I've seen 400+ reaccs before

You mentioned so many good players, but the concept of team and brotherhood had to be missing. It takes a lot to win in the NHL, and talent alone won't do it. I have watched hockey for a very long time, and I believe the guys in the room have to love each other like a family and go to battle for each other. It is clear the Sabres have been missing that key element, the Sens and Leafs are in the same category.

The thing is Florida won the cup last year with multiple guys from buffalos core outplaying Florida's homegrown guys. I think players must just hate the city. I am not far from it and I certainly understand how such a run down city can't compete with other places.

Hockey players love money but not as much as basketball or football players who will literally go wherever pays them the most. Plenty of hockey players choose a comfortable life over other factors.

If that is the case then the lack of professionalism is the reason why they struggle. I don't have any empathy for NHL players who sign contracts for millions of dollars and later claim they didn't like where they were playing. It is a copout and an excuse for failing, I don't buy it.

ROR signed there and said it killed his passion to play hockey. He got traded and everyone called him a diva and he immediately won the Conn Smythe. That's just how it goes.

If Cozens is available we absolutely 100% should call.

The franchise even tries to kill whatever fun their fans are having, not surprised the players are miserable.

Celebrini's going off tonight! He might be a better #1 overall than Bedard. Hard to believe he doesn't turn 19 until June.
Kind of jealous of the Sharks’ pool, they have so many great young pieces to build around. Future looks much brighter in SJ than in Chicago, Celebrini will have a better supporting cast. Yet Bedard is still the better player.

I don't know about better player. Celebrini does a lot of things really well and his game is more dimensional.
