NHL Out of Town talk - Hell breaks loose as Byram, Eklund, Nemec, the 4OA pick, Kyrou, Etcetera, all find new homes

What's the goal for Bettman? Revenue generating across the NHL.

Lucky for him, you have the fans of the Original 6. Saps we are, one and all, for generations. We will always pony up the dough on tickets, merch, and tv viewership. Win or lose.

AND, we'll sit inside and watch NC State vs UNLV, as if our lives depend on it because we genuinely love the game.

The work is getting fannies in seats in Arizona, FLA, Carolina, et al, particularly if teams ain't winning. That's the rub and I could see the Houston Jets and/or Tucumcari Flames in the future.

The American players in Canada thing, discord, like everything in this country is fueled . . . well anyway.

On Bettman's list of concerns, this is like #2450

I don’t know much about those players….

What would be the Bruins equivalent?
We don't have the players to make a 1 for 1 comparison, but value-wise?
Our 1st from this year, Geekie, and Attilio Biasca?

Great card for Kyrou, but I think he needs a center to feed him. IMO, he does not create his own offense and only did well when paired with Thomas. He is entering his prime and has become a bit of a reclamation project after the last few years. His minutes kept declining.

It will be interesting to see how he does in Washington. He has Strome and PLD at center, I wonder if he will gel with them.

Personally glad Sweeney let this one go by. Something stunk on the Blues the past few years and it was not just in the standings.

I care, to a point. I don't need to align with them on everything, but I think there are some core values that I do require. For example, I don't want someone who urinates on lollipops and bullies people with disabilities into eating them. I also wouldn't want someone who is a rapist on the team or people that beat up their own family members. I don't think I'm asking a lot, do you? I care about winning, but I don't think I could cheer for a guy like that. Reducing it to "winning is the only thing that matters" is a little dystopian for my taste. I can almost get there, but I have boundaries. I also think you can still win the Stanley Cup and not compromise on these things.
I did say in my post that my line was drawn at convicted felons. People convicted of heinous crimes are free to rehabilitate themselves elsewhere.

Having said that, if I’m spending my precious time and hard-earned money on a hockey team, but I want favorable results far more often than not.

I’m probably not as cutthroat as you might think I am, i do have an “ends justify the means” philosophy when it comes to my favorite teams. Especially given what I invest in them.
We both know that's not really what happened though, right? You are leaving out some very key points that we all know. If there's any animosity about the Olympics factoring in people wanting to leave Canadian teams as has been reported, I think people are fooling themselves if they think it is just about the gold medal.
I’m sure most people know this is not entirely about the gold medal. Whatever the ‘other’ reasons for the animosity may be, those reasons are not the fault of a handful of American hockey players.

Good on Ottawa ...one winger out, another good one in...their roster just just got younger, more skilled and less dumb

The only problem is Ottawa is soft, especially upfront, the only forwards they had with any physical presence was Brady and 4th liner Nick Cousins. You can only go so far with only skill and as it currently stands there are several teams with a higher skill level then Ottawa.

Well I tend to agree a team needs toughness....I'm a bruins fan afterall.......but Carolina showed teams a path...not the only path...but a less tough more skilled and hard work path

Fair enough, but very difficult in today's cap world to get 4 lines of skill, Florida excluded. Brady was literally on an island in Ottawa in terms of a physical presence and enforcer, replacing him with a skill guy like Eklund isn't nearly enough in my opinion, good start though.

From a value perspective? Sure.

But they didn’t improve going from Tkachuk to Eklund. That was the implication.
That feels like an assumption. I think a valid counter argument could be made that the locker room will be better and the team will collectively improve, even if the tkatchuk is the better hockey player in a vacuum. Frankly, I'm looking forward to seeing which scenario takes root.

Not an assumption on my part. That was what was stated.

As for the locker room? Yeah. I think you’re probably right on that one.

People like to play the "who did better" game, but situations can be win-win. Florida gets a star player who can leave his baggage behind and who really should thrive in his new environment as long as the Panthers can keep a lid on all the egos in that locker room. Ottawa offloads a locker room problem and turns it into a very tidy young player with upside and a couple of extra picks and pieces.

In the short-term, obviously the Panthers get the easy win. Its up to the Sens now to prove that this course-correction can pay off for them. Right this second they are weaker but in 12 months things may look different. Time will tell.
