Tampa scores first... again.

If I looked at the recaps correctly, of the 20 games they've played thus far, they've scored first in 16 of them.

And I think they've only lost 3 games where they scored first.

Also the cost Tampa paid to get a gritty guy has more than been justified already. Getting guys like Coleman in trade are only going to get harder.
Don't think we'll have to worry about that. I'm sure we'll go dumpster diving for replacement level bottom pairing/4th line guys on one of the worst teams in the league like we did this year. Or we'll give up a guy like Rees for 10 games of a bottom pairing guy. Or we'll panic and trade a 1st for a meh nondescript player.

There's the glass-half-empty hot take we all love from the main Canes boards...or, more likely, Tampa + Kucherov is by far the best team in the league and it simply isn't our time yet to make noise. Also, I liked the Hakanpaa pickup, thought he played well, and I think he probably re-signs a short-term deal.

As far as the Coleman and Goodrow trades were concerned, they were incredible deals for Tampa. I don't think that any other team, however, should've given up that sort of a package for either. Tampa was a historically-good regular season team the season before. They really did not need much at all to turn that club into a championship one. Tampa truly was a couple of role players away from greatness. If I'm realistic, as good as I think that our Canes are and can be, IMO they're one core piece away from being Tampa-good. Perhaps Necas and/or Svech are going to be those guys, and they certainly seems to be on-track to be that. Canes do have the advantage of time, since both are really, really young.

As for Tampa, they're playing a lot better in the 3rd. I don't know what they were doing for most of the 2nd period. They're winning RN because 1. Vasi's in that zone where the only goals he gives up are double-deflections and 2. because Blake Coleman is Blake Coleman and Blake Coleman scores huge goals for a living.

Fun fact, tonight is the last NHL game we will ever see on the NBC Sports Network.
I’m impressively indifferent. I didn’t think they were awful but it was just kind of...meh.

I hate to say it, but national coverage just wasn’t the same after espn. The complaints about how unimportant the sport seemed to them have always been spot on but in terms of presentation espn just did it better than anyone else. I’m happy they’re going back and am betting I’m going to enjoy it a bit more, when I do watch national broadcasts.

Man poor EStaalo is cooked and the rest of Montreal is just as overmatched. Even with Tampa losing talent next year, we've got a long ways to go to hang with them especially without Hamilton.

To be fair to us, NOBODY can hang with Tampa Bay. I know that the analytics nerds love to hype Colorado and us, and I think it's for a good reason, but Tampa was a historically good regular season team two years ago and they managed to improve the next 2 years to turn into a postseason juggernaut. No one is as good as them or has been as good as them for a very long time.

Note: I really don't think Dougie's going anywhere. Fingers crossed, but it's a gut instinct.

Not that Edmundson is having to play against good teams, we see the Edmundson of Carolina

Except he was a chump and fake tough guy here but is a lot more physical this year.

Looks like he didn't want to be here and was half assing it.
