He's certainly not the problem in NJ. The complete lack of interest in defense or maybe playing the body once in a while is not a Hughes brothers problem, it's a Devils problem.

But Jack is their superstar. If he makes an effort to defend it would go a long way towards improving them.

I don't take the Devils seriously at all. Their team is easily pushed around, doesn't play physical, has no goaltending and sucks at defense. They have some skill, but that's not enough to win in the playoffs or even make the playoffs consistently from year to year. They need to get tougher and figure out how not to bleed goals against to actually be a contender.

Totally agree. But I see the narrative that the Devils would instantly be contenders with Markstrom everywhere. I don't buy it. I think Markstrom is going to be very frustrated playing behind a team that floats around navel-gazing in the D zone.
