Looking forward to hockey writers just finding out that Tampa is $20m over the cap and how much of a problem that actually is
Expect them to whine about how $20m over the cap is really $50m over the cap because of the difference in Montreal vs. Florida taxes, too. Which will largely discredit them as whining and give the league an excuse to ignore the real issue.

I honestly don't see being $20M over the cap as being a problem for anyone except the league. They wrote the rules. Tampa was just smart enough to get around it in order to keep their big guns.
Hard disagree there. LTIR is intended so teams can replace players with a roughly equivalent level of talent, not so teams can bring back an extra superstar in the playoffs. It's a massive problem for every other team and every fan of those other teams, and it's an even bigger problem for the owners of the 15 other teams trying to get a few more games of playoff revenue.

They got away with a loophole, but everybody should be offended both by the fact that they could do this and that they did manipulate Kucherov's surgery timeline to make this outcome possible.

Nonsense. Tampa Bay didn't write the rules. The NHL wrote the rules. Be mad at the NHL, if anyone. If the Canes had an unfortunate circumstance where one of our stars was out for the year, you bet my ass that they would do the same exact thing.

I'm certainly mad at the NHL for allowing a loophole. But that doesn't excuse the Lightning one iota.

Nah. Would you be mad at the Hurricanes if they did a similar thing with, say, Sebastian Aho, in some future bad injury situation? Personally, I wouldn't be mad. Tampa was smart. Tampa was not evil. I know it's a fine line sometimes, but in this particular circumstance, this is what you would call smart.

Oh what a bad argument. Of course none of us would care if the Canes did it because we are fans of the Canes. But that wouldn't make it any less bullshit than what is going on with Tampa now.

Honestly boils down to a really bad rule that needs to be changed. TB did nothing wrong, the rule is bad

I still don't like Montreal and don't want Canada to win a Cup as long as possible because it's funny. I also just don't think they're very good.

I hate Tampa's shenanigans but they're a truly championship caliber team. Not just a shit team on a heater. Go Tampa sadly.
This is exactly where I am. I’d be happy for Eric, but otherwise I don’t want the Habs to win.

Thanks for perfectly encapsulating the argument.

If we wouldn't be mad if our team did it, then it's not particularly wrong.

Almost every single person on this board called for Pesce to be suspended when he had his crazy slewfoot moment. Why? Because it was against the rules and it was wrong and it was dangerous and it was generally shitty.

What did Tampa do? They took advantage of badly written league rules.

Annoying? Yes. Bullshit? Not really, except that the rule itself is bullshit. Evil? Definitely not.
