To think we could have the Cubs and Mets playing for the National League pennant as of tonight.

Quick show of hands; who had that at the beginning of the year? Be honest :sarcasm:

St Louis is 3 outs away from being the first team eliminated. Just goes to show just how much of a crapshoot the MLB playoffs are.

Let's not start making excuses if the Jays lose tomorrow. Yankees won 27 WS titles, are they that lucky? If you say it's a craphshoot, then that's a cop out. You're not holding anyone accountable. I don't think in St. Louis they will say "oh, playoffs are just a crapshoot oh well"

I figured the Cubs might make the playoff this year, with the young players they had and signing Lester I thought they would be good enough.

I'll pass on the Mets part of the question though.

I figured the Cubs might make the playoffs. But the Mets on the other hand... I had them picked to finish 4th

No, they've been around for over 100 years and have well over the highest payroll every year.

I think it's a cop out. Is management going to put their head in the sand and say "oh well, MLB playoffs are a crapshoot. We'll get em next year"? You have to look at reason why you lost. You can't just dismiss it as a "crapshoot".

That's not really that crazy if you think about it. There was no DS up until the Wild Card era and the Cubs were a bunch of losers outside of a couple times in the 80's. If they got lucky enough to make the playoffs, they would lose so no chance for a clinch.

Stupid they have to open up on the road despite being better than either the Dodgers or Mets.

Everyone considers it a crap shoot. Which is probably why David Price was 0fer until last nght

Ok....looked things up...the last time the made the World Series was 1945. LCS were not introduced until 1969. DS in 1995. Since the introduction of the LCS the Cubs have won 2 series before tonight, so that's not that bad then when you look at it that way.

All he's saying is good teams can beat great teams. Anything can happen in baseball. Would you bet on tomorrow's game? I sure wouldn't. Did you see the Dodgers being on the verge of elimination to the Mets?

Actually, it kind of makes it even more depressing...the fact that they have only won 2 series in 46 years haha.
