This is a playoff team if we just roll with Ullmark and Leevi for the rest of the season.

Put Zub in for Hamonic, then Perron in for Gregor or Gaudette and then we cooking.

Also that f***ing terrorist Dorion deserves to be trialed in The Hague for his crimes of giving away 2 bona fide #1 young stud goalies in Gus and Daccord for nothing. What a f***ing loser.

Could really use one of those guys right now.

This obsession with Dorion is unhealthy

To be fair, our best goalie doesn't really change the outcome tonight (maybe we get the shutout?) but Kaprisov is a game breaker and they were really missing him

I'm not trying to suggest we weren't missing important pieces, Zub and Ullmark are huge parts of the team, and while I might be in the minority, I think we really miss Perron and Amadio, we've been playing great in tough circumstances and credit where it's due for that.

Earlier in the year, we weren't taking advantage of teams missing key pieces, it's nice to see us flip that script.
I think the point was that if they add their game breaker forward, maybe our game breaker goalie nullifies that and it’s still 3-1

A #4 LHD and a star winger is definitely a greater loss than a top pairing RHD, and two third line wingers. However, when factoring we lost both of our goalies, I still think the Sens had it worse off out of the injuries. Then factor in that the Sens are on a b2b on the road, I'm still very happy with their play and the result.

Merilainen looked clam and stopped the play when needed. Pretty sure we would have won both games if we had played him back to back.

I am glad Merilainen played well but having been rested the night before would have helped. I'm glad they picked Meriliainen for one Sogaards for another.

It was also worth seeing what Sogaards is like after not having played in the NHL in a couple months.

Holy f*** you guys. Arguing over who was in worse shape injury wise. Just stop.

We won the game.

Against a top opponent on the road on a b2b.

With a young goalie

Avoiding 3 losses in a row

On a night when those chasing us all won.

It was a critical win. And if we make the playoffs we can look back on last night as critical to being in the playoffs.

Hans up. How many wanted to go into Dallas with the possibility of losing 4 in a row?

The defence, as a whole, was very solid t keeping minny to the outside. Very few massive saves needed. It was quite different than other iterations where we would have panicked and broke.

So the original point was never about who's in worse shape, that really doesn't matter. We're all aware of the hardships our team was facing, acknowledging they were missing a pretty big piece too is pretty reasonable when framing them as the 5th best team in the league.

Colorado with MacKinnon, you'd want to acknowledge that. Tbay without Kucherov, VGK without Stone, Toronto without Matthews ect. All still good teams, but all would take a step back without those key players.

The point is if we're going to use them as a measuring stick, we need to acknowledge what exactly we are measuring up against because the wild with Kaprisov and without him are two different sticks. It's the inverse of people complaining about our performance against SJ not acknowledging that their record was highly impacted by missing Celebrini at the time, but he was back when we faced them and they were a very different team (though still not a great team).

I think the important takeaway is back when we were struggling, we weren't able to take advantage of good teams missing key pieces, tonight we did, despite lots of potential excuses (back to back, 3rd string goalie, missing Zub ect). We need to win games like this and we did. That's great.

Whats the record for most whistles in a game? was hard to get into this one because of the constant stoppages.

The line adjustments towards more balance seemed to work out well

The Norris line with Batherson and Reinhart got crushed vs the Jets. Nice to see an adjustment. I like that Pinto T7 Greig line .. would not mind seeing that again.

All the lines seemed to be pretty good together, I liked Gregors game, he seemed to have a bee in his bonnet.

Good grief, comments in here about Minnie hitting posts, top guy is out. As if Ottawa never hits multiple posts in losses, or has key guys out injured. It goes both ways, just great to see the Senators finding ways to pull out wins.
How many times did we lose after hitting 3-4-5 posts. The deserve o meter doesn’t lie!

I did not like that cousins Norris giroux line. Or the stutzle line honestly.

We were the better team despite the posts, but a few of those post and out shots going in probably shifts the narrative about how we, and in particular Merilainen, played. We'd be hearing about how awful our breakdowns were and it cost us, and how bad goaltending was.

It's a game of inches,

That's funny, because I think they lead the team in xGF% for whatever that's worth.

Here's an idea;

Enjoy the Win .. reading these threads the day after is funny enough stuff to make a tv show out of
whats the point of a forum if you can discuss the team?

This is the same mentality of people saying why would ottawa look to tweak their roster when we were on a 6 game heater....its cause the goal is to win the cup so discussing issues with the roster even if they are winning games is valid

I loved their approach to the game, coming off of 2 losses in a row, and a back to back, in previous times we'd have seen that scenario affect the mentality of the team, but last night they just stuck to their game and put in a full 60 minute effort. Even when fatigue set in near the end, they didn't let it break them, instead they kept their legs moving and drew 2 huge penalties to eventually get the GWG.

Merilainen was awesome, he definitely has a lot of potential, and he's impressed in his starts so far this year. He's earned the net until Ullmark is back or until he loses it.
