I like Bobby on the podcast. I hope he survives this, but not selfishly. I wish him the best however this shakes out.

Bobby inititally tweeted out something like name (I think it was) 7 players first and last name. After the huge hoopla about Iowa vs LSU in Women's college basketball and superstars Caitlin Clark vs Angel Reese,. I am guessing he got some social media backlash for that and this was his response.

He basically spent all day in the replies trying to make the argument that few people actually care about women's college basketball (plus a deleted tweet where he seemed to expand his mockery to women's sports in general), and tried to make his point by asking people to name seven women's basketball players - as if that is proof of anything.

Why? I have no idea.

The sick podcast with Tony Marniaro. He had Pierre McGuire on. When talking, Pierre mentioned that Ottawa tried and were close to signing Ryan Suter before Dallas got him.

12.3 million viewers some say it peaked higher .. I'd say these young ladies captured some interest as have women's soccer, women's hockey etc; Who doesn't like women in sport?. I have a hard time understanding BRs position .. very strange ; no idea of the root of that; not even going to try to speculate. He'll have a hard time living this down. Average Stanley cup single game viewership last year was 2.6 million btw.

I mean it’s right there in the screenshot…Bobby made a comment about ppl pretending to be interested in women’s sports (no doubt making fun of all the attention the women’s NCAA matchups are getting). What’s missing is the doubling down with several others and he continued jawing with Chris Johnston

I can't find that tweet anywhere on Bobby's timeline. But it seems like a joke that the generic guy from The Athletic didn't get.
Yeah it looks like he deleted it but kept all the other replies. Seemed a bit out of left field honestly but you can tell Bobby’s ‘conservative’ side comes out a lot in the podcast too

They got the donuts? Excellent....
Why? For calling out an obviously mysoginistic Ryan who is doubling down and continues to belittle women’s sports? Yes Johnston is the weasel here…smh

Ryan never belittled women's sports other than an alleged tweet that Johnston posted a screen shot for which was likely a joke mocking all those attacking him. His tweets were about the fandom for women's sports.

He certainly implied nobody actually cares about women's basketball when he suggested nobody could name 7 players, this in response to and @'ing a prominent woman in sports analytics who was pointing out that the women's game was getting significant viewership. He then proceeded to claim anybody who did name 7 just googled it.

I couldn’t name any WNBA players either, other than that one that’s getting a lot of AirPlay lately, but would still need to google to get her name.
However I don’t watch men’s or ladies basketball, so not surprising.

Like a lot of people, I watched the Raptors on their run to the championship. And like a lot of people, as of now I couldn't name a player on their current roster. Viewership doesn't always mean fandom. Sometimes you just get people hopping on the bandwagon for a short period of time.

You're kind of avoiding the point, he inferred something that can, and clearly was taken as insulting; you don't see how it might be taken as condescending to suggest that the record level viewership is just bandwagon jumpers and not an indication of more fans caring about the sport?

It's fine if he doesn't care about women's college basketball (I don't either, or men's basketball for that matter) I'm just not sure what he's trying to accomplish by tweeting what he did (how dumb is it to try and catch someone in a gotcha moment asking them to name players and then when people do, just say without evidence they googled it, maybe they did but the whole spectical just makes him look pathetic tbh). And as always happens on the cesspool that is twitter, the replies spiraled out of control and got even grosser on both sides from the people calling him out and those that took his side.

No good came from this, he has only himself to blame for it, but some jack asses will complain about cancel culture because God forbid someone get called out for being a jackass.

Really surprising for Bobby to go out on that limb when he’s often “I’m not touching that one” guy on the podcast.

Horrible take, zero benefit to blasting it out there. Brutal decision.

For context, Family Guy has lit up the WNBA in a far more disparaging way on primetime TV. Bob’s original point about women’s sports was blunt, but wasn’t inaccurate if we’re being honest.

Had he shut off the phone after that tweet, it’s a non-issue. But he doubled down, and jousted with media folks in the process.

Feels like he’s over his own media gig and went out guns blazing. Sort of like how Costanza would blow up a minor thing to get out of a relationship with a gal he’s just not that into anymore.
