Gregor was scratched a couple times. Wasn't a sure bet regular in coach's eyes(even tho I think he is). That's not the point. It isn't about HIGHMORE specifically playing top line. The point is a belleville call-up guy was playing top line.

A lot of our guys have been on offensive dry spell. Before last 2 games, the previous 12's GF output was around 2.1.

Ahh you don't get it, jade.

I am sure it was more to do with fresh legs than anything, but the offensive dry spell for few of our forwards is something to keep eye on and hopefully adjustments made(coaching strategies or otherwise).
All the games Gregor missed have been due to injury,

Awesome showing by Forsberg especially in the first to hang in there until we found our footing. I feel like even more pressure is on Ullmark to have a strong first game back or at least his second game back whenever he's ready.

Great outing for Forsberg, a guy who is literally fighting for his NHL career right now. He is right on the border of getting a one year, one way deal, a two way deal, or a ticket back to Europe. Today he took a step towards getting himself a one way contract from someone for next season.

Now, do I think that this is the start of a run for him? Absolutely not - history with him shows that if you play him again on Tuesday night, he will crumble. He can give you the occasional spot start, but that's it. Expecting any more from him is foolish.

I agree. At his $2.75M salary, he is not going to be here next season unless he accepts much less ($1M) because he is competing with Sogaard who has a 1-way ($0.775M) next season and Merilainen who is an RFA. Ullmark is getting the bulk of the goaltender allotment at $8M so there is not much left for a backup. Given Meri's performances so far, the other 2 Gs don't stand much of a chance of being here UNLESS . . .

Shades of Jarry
Prime management material: blame others for your errors and incompetencies.

Also seemed like he was drinking a lot of that wine while doing our play by play, all part of his charm I guess.
He was just the type of D we need: fast, good puck-handler and distributor, could score, and could play big and tough. Alas he is too old now for that.

A top 3 defenseman in NHL history is the type of D every team in the league needs. :p:
Legend has it that when Denis Potvin was in his last year of junior he was absolutely destroying people in the OHL (then called the OHA) with clean but devastating body checks. He was one of those guys who was 19 years old but shaving twice a day, so much stronger and more physically mature than almost all of his opponents. Keep in mind that back then, the NHL draft was 20, not 18 - in hindsight, Denis Potvin probably should have been in the NHL at 18, but those weren't the rules back then...

Not sure how you take Mantipalo out when Hamonic returns.

He’s been better every game than Hamonic has been in any.
Hamonic has a lot of pull from Staios and Green who are supporting the vet and to almost everyone else over value his contribution.

Matinpalo has been fine .. he is the same player now as he was at the beginning of the year as well .. he didn't get much of a shot with JBD and Hamonic blocking the door. I fully expect to see Hamonic as their guy when he comes back. Hamonic has warped their decision making at that spot since they decided to keep him this summer.

Tkachuk's play has been garbage.

3 goals 6 points in last 15 games ever since we entered playoff style hockey since the 9 game road trip until now.
Its too bad he wasn't Bob Gainey when he wasn't scoring. He has been making more of a commitment on D though to his credit.

Tkachuk needs so much energy to bring his best game.. we want to see that every 2nd night and we don't ... the playoffs will demand it .. I hope he can deliver it then but not convinced he can bring his best game after game

I agree, Matinpalo has been great but we have no idea how he will perform in a playoff situation given he is an AHL player called up as an injury replacement. That said, both Hamonic & JBD could be on a short leash but they have plenty of depth now at RD.

Tkachuk is also the guy who takes the most abuse shift after shift in front of the opposition net against the biggest defenders leaning on him & cross checking him constantly. That is not easy to do & a lot of players stay away from the net because of it, he's been playing a good 200' game all yr while at the same time contributing offensively. How many other guys on this team can take that kind of abuse in front of the net shift after shift? I think Ostapchuk has that potential, but he isn't the scorer Brady is & as it has been said many times by former players & pro analysts Tkachuk is a unicorn who is very good at so many things.

Isn't JBD out with a high ankle sprain?

Tkachuk is a good physical offensive player that leads with his emotion. He should be able to bring what he can more consistently. Yah Unicorn .. great I am asking for his B+ game as a baseline of consistency not so much A+, A, C, D , C, C, A+

Player evaluations on here are always all over the place depending on who you are talking too. These young guys are also maturing & starting to play the right way, I expect them to continue to be better but it's a long season & there are always ebbs & flows.
