Ryan's contract is horrible, considering what he bring on the ice. Simmonds @ under 4M is a great deal and I'm not sure getting rid of MacDonald would make it that much better. Wayne is just too important.Would the Flyers do that?
Wayne Simmonds ($3,975,000 x 3)
Andrew MacDonald ($5,000,000 x 4)
for
Bobby Ryan ($7,250,000 x 6)
Mark Borowiecki ($1,100,000 x 2)
Matt Puempel ($900,000 then RFA)
Flyers get out of AMac contract and finally get Bobby Ryan in Philly
Ottawa needs a power forward like Wayne Simmonds because they have too many finesse forwards right now (Hoffman, Turris, Ryan, Stone, even Brassard). Need someone who can score goals in front of the net

So the Flyers trade a horrible contract in exchange for another one that is more expensive and even longer? Ha.
lol can't say I didn't expect that kind of answer...
How is Ryan's contract "horrible"? Maybe he is a bit overpaid by 1 million (at 6.25 no one would complain) but he is actually a positive contributor. I have read everywhere that MacDonald is an anchor. It's not because Ryan is slightly overpaid (BIG UFA contract obliges) that he is a CAP DUMP like AMac...
For the record, Ryan averaged 57 pts (23 goals, 34 assists) per 82 games in his first 3 years in Ottawa
During the same period, Simmonds averaged 59 pts (31 goals, 28 assists) per 82 games
So they produce about the same with Simmonds being the better goal scorer with a bigger impact on the game with his physicality. But that is why the Sens take a full 4 years 20.0 salary cap dump, to make up for the difference. They also give up Matt Puempel who is a solid depth player but can't find his scoring touch in Ottawa, maybe he could in Philly and actually become an asset. I would even add Gabriel Gagne who is a boom or bust prospect, with the boom actually becoming some kind of player like Simmonds.
Here's more evidence that Ryan is far from a crap player. Over his first 3 years in Ottawa (2013-16), out of all forwards who have seen significant ice-time, Ryan has been :
- 1st in total points
- 2nd in Points/GP (after Stone)
- 2nd in Points/60 (after Stone)
- 1st in total shots
- 2nd in Shots/60 (after Hoffman)
- 2nd in FirstA/60 (after Stone)
- 3rd in G/60 (after Hoffman & Stone)
- 1st in PPG
- 1st in PPP
- 1st in iFenwick
- 1st in iCorsi
- 3rd in GF60 (after Stone and MacArthur)
- 4th in GA60 (after Neil, Stone and Smith). Neil minutes are sheltered.
- 3rd in GF% (after Hoffman & Stone)
- 3rd in CF% (after Hoffman and MacArthur)
- 5th in hits (after Neil, Smith, Zibanejad & Pageau)
- 2nd in TkA (after Stone)
- 7th in BkS (after Stone, Turris, Condra, Zibanejad, Michalek & Pageau)
Anyway, it was a bit like a test to see how ridiculous HF is becoming with this contracts thing
Can you send out Andrew to win you a game like this?
Maybe Ryan's reputation has been built up by some of the whiny Sens fans? I dunno but I swear we must have the most whiny fanbase out there.
Giving up Brown or White immediately makes me uneasy.
I would think about it if Dzingle, Paul and a 2nd rounder were thrown in the deal with Bobby Ryan for Simmonds and MacDonald.
Problem is that Simmonds is really a hard player to give up in trade at this point, especially since he's a leader on and off the ice for the Flyers plus everything he's doing now for the team. I also like how uses his athleticism and strength to go to the net for goals.
Simmonds is on a very reasonable deal with the Flyers, so I can't see Hextall entertaining a trade for Simmonds since the offense really hasn't been a problem to start out this season.
I'd rather keep Simmonds at his current deal, rather then paying Ryan over long term.
Do they Flyers want to trade Simmonds? Seems odd that they would, he's been great
At 7.25....Ryan is way overpaid. At 6.25....he would still be overpaid.
Maybe look at it this way:
AMac makes 5 mill
Simmonds 3.975
Save 950,000 if we demote AMac
8.025 difference.
I would rather keep Simmonds and demote AMac for 8 million than add Ryan for 7.25 plus 2 pieces that wouldn't make the Flyers.

OK, let's play. So, if Ryan is overpaid at 6.25, what should be his cap hit?
Regarding the proposal, if the Flyers can afford (which they probably can) to burry AMac, then of course they don't need to do that
Also, why Borowiecki wouldn't make the Flyers if AMac currently plays? He would replace him on the 3rd pair, or 7th D-man. He is a solid physical D-man under the right coaching/system
Matt Puempel was just a throw in at this point, a depth forward. Didn't check how many call-up forwards the Flyers have.
Yay Simmonds is on an incredible deal... Why the heck did he sign for that low? He needs another agent lol. He just had a 28 goals season when he signed, but he did for 6 years. Should have went for a prove-it shorter deal and then cash in.
Dzingel, Paul, a 2nd AND Ryan would be too much to give up for me, even if Simmonds is a great player on a great contract. Taking AMac hurts for the Sens as 20 millions is 20 millions and the Sens are a budget team
Ryan should be making 5-5.5 million. He s like Ottawa's version of Schenn. When he plays well, he looks great. Often makes you wonder why he doesn't produce even more. But then has long stretches where you barely notice him and is frustrating to watch.
The thread is a bad one.....we are not trading Simmonds. And I have been one who has entertained that idea on many occasions. But Simmonds is now starting to PK, further rounding out his game and has looked good.
If the Flyers were to be on the outside looking in during the TD, would this not be reasonable?
If Ottawa was outside looking in would you accept that pathetic offer for Stone? Simmonds is worth much, much more than Stone
As it should. You're going after a player that you can't hope to acquire without an overpayment.
I can understand if you don't like giving up either of those players, either because you don't expect to seriously compete within the next three years or simply because you think they're core assets that would be hard to obtain otherwise. That being said, if you think that you get Simmonds without losing one them you don't appreciate his value or his rarity.
Pretend that you're trading for, at minimum, a prime Lucic who scores more goals on only 2/3 of his cap hit for the next 3 years.

Look at what the Birds gave up for Carson Wentz and start there, it's a non starter bub.
