Behind you, look out
What additional compensation would San Jose require in this trade?

To Ottawa
Anthony Duclair (50% retained)

To San Jose
Matthew Joseph

Making this trade allows Ottawa to sign Pinto.

What would San Jose require? a 2nd? a late 1st? A prospect like Sokolov?

Joseph is a cap dump

Duclair just signed there this summer as a UFA. Teams don’t trade just signed UFAs who haven’t played a game yet and the league would block such a trade.

Duclair was traded, not a UFA signing. We sent Florida Steven Lorentz and a pick.

Again San Jose just acquired him…why trade him for a cap dump?
I don't think they will, but if it came with a 1st I'd do it in a heartbeat. Duclair will probably be retired by the time the Sharks are good again.

This is getting insane.

You are talking about improving on Joseph by a lot AND freeing up cap space.
I don’t consider Duclair even a slight upgrade

The last thing the Sens need is another RW after signing Tarasenko. Paying to unload Joseph is one thing but having to take on Anthony Duclair is terrible.

Joseph scored 3 goals in 56 games, Duclair had 2 in 20.
Joseph has 3 years left at 2.95, Duclair is a free agent after this season. That frees up money for Sanderson next year. Duclair can play both wings like Joseph.

Tkachuk/Stutzle/Giroux
Duclair/Norris/Tarasenko
Kubalik/Pinto/Batherson

More balanced.

Nice contribution. Exactly the same thing, try harder.

You think a rebuilding team only picks up guys to play them in their lineup?

You think Duclair factors into their long-term plans?

Or is it more than possible that they acquired a potential trade chip to flip to another team?

Your overly simplistic analysis certainly could use a little more effort.

Do better.

I dont see any difference with the Sharks and Sens. Two teams who won't sniff the playoffs next season.

Duclair was a 0.5 PPG between the playoffs and regular season and 58 in 74 the season before. If you don’t think that’s an upgrade on 18 in 56, I don’t know what to tell you.
