Mews

4things

I can't wait to see the NHL ruling on his eligibility (is he CHL or NCAA)

I think the next place for him may be the showroom selling cars

His agent cannot talk to the NHL until he graduates or says he is finished.

Hey, we finally have Moldenhaer and Mews on the same team LOL.

He is going to find that his attitude willnot last long at the NCAA level these are all people that are serious and do not put up with crap.

I plan on getting a degree in Business admin or sports.

I assume that Sudbury holds his rights, though, if he thinks he wants to come back.

Calgary will probably trade his rights to someone else or just let him go as a bad choice theone the could of but did not want to.

He is going to end up like a lot of kids here that have rich parents living at home or in a house daddy bought, putting in time under daddy hoping nothing happens.

OK I am looking at the American kids we drafted and I have to ask. If we drafted them should we not be thinking that they are going to play here or did we waste draft picks

I am looking at Shorter more the D than the forward would
Zielinski and Vandenberg
Shorter the D

In the case of Zielinski and Vandenberg they are already signed and playing USHL
The Shorter brothers are almost guaranteed to be drafted by the USHL this year or go to the NDTP camp.

There is no way that you are going to entice Zielinski or Vandenberg to come here I would think and play 3rd 4th line minutes. They are going to want 2nd line minutes, I think to make the switch

Zielilnski is going to be one of the top scorers on the USHL team and in all likelihood, play first lline looking at the team stats

Vandenberg is a possibilty but again not sure he would settle to be 3rd line nor will Citaroni want to be stuck on 4th line

Shorters will look at the USHL as a better alternative to playing CCHL I am sure.

It is going to be interesting to see what happens. I hope that Boyd has already had talks with these players and their families and can sign some of these players and I also look at Shorters as possibly playing 1 year in the USHL then coming here butnot sure.

@OMG67 I think with all the young kids we have, Brady may find himself traded. There are too many young guns trying to step in. I do not see him as an OA I keep next year, but with all the young kids we have it makes more sense to get some of them playing than to keep Brady. I think he is in for a fight to keep his place.

Barring anyone standing on their head I would rather have NCAA, Chitaroni and our Eurobe the only player to make the team this year .

The rest, including Johnson, would be better getting minutes on a local CCHL team and practicing with the 67s

Johnson from what I have heard is about as safe a bet to play top 4 this year as any other rookie D. Should be on team. I predict Chitaroni, Johnson, Hayes on the team for sure and the rest of the guys battle it out. Zielinski would be able to play full time as next year he would be 17 to start and it’s his draft year(if he comes over)

So Chitaroni, Johnson, Hayes, Zielinski and one other 16 year old plus the imports would be rookies.

let the shorters (who likely come as a package deal being twins and probably have played on same team all their life) play games with the 67s but not enough for an A card. Next year full time for them as 17 year olds with late birthdays (not eligible for NHL draft until 2028 rather than 2027 because of a birthday past sept 16th and remember- only 4 16 year olds can play on the same team unless you trade for a first round pick player

My argument is not how good the players are they are all good if they are drafted. The challenge comes to where is the best place for them to develop. Playing 4th line on a team that very rarely plays the 4th line is not the best for Hayes or any 16 year old.

Zielinski is not a rookie in the sense that he has played junior hockey at this level and can not be and Vandenberg can not be considered in the same boats as other rookies

Johnson will have a chance to make the team at camp if he is good enough to dislodge one of the players that is here now then all the best to him but if he is gong to be 7 or 8th, then the best lace3 for him development is CCHL

Please explain to me what the Shorters are supposed to do. I am confused about playing, but not enough to get their A card. Are they supposed to stay home until called? I can see them playing in the USHL or NDTP if they qualify this year and looking at the OHL next year unless Trevor is good enough to make the 67's top 6 this year.

We have drafted some great players, and now it is going to be on Boyd and Cameron to find places for them that work.

Beast you're being quite harsh on a kid when we don't know for sure what went on behind the scenes. We're all dissapointed he wanted out of Ottawa but doesn't mean he's a bad/spoiled kid necessarily. I for onr wish him luck.

The big thing we don’t know is the downfall of the USHL. Is it accurate or is it considerably overhyped? There are a lot of players “supposedly” moving away from the USHL. If that does happen, then it will motivate others that are at least open to playing in the CHL to come here.

But, I am not entirely sure that will happen. Yes, the USHL will lose some players but if the NCAA starts to skew a little older, then the players that would leave the USHL for the NCAA at 18 and 19 will likely leave a year later wth the NCAA skewing older.

The reality is, we don’t know what the fallout is truly going to be and then how it will impact the CHL. This is sort of a tester year AND on top of all that, we will have multiple age cohorts all scrambling to come to the CHL at the same time. We don’t know what they is going to look like either. In a normal year, we ar looking at integrating draft picks. Now we are looking at integrating draft picks from multiple drafts as well as potential free agent signing inns of older players.

I don’t think anyone has a really strong grasp on what will happen.

All I can say is if you listen closely to the interview with James Boyd, he intimates that he has been talking to players. One of the big things he said in the interview was that players that were getting reasonable ice time last year weren’t coming mid-season last year. They are more open/likely to come to start the year in September. That suggests guys are coming. How many? Dunno. But he wasn’t talking about guys in Tier II Jr A. he was talking about USHL. How do I know? He signed a bunch of the Tier II guys which is why we have so many ‘07s! Those guys can come up and down with ease. It is the USHL guys and NCAA commit guys he is referring to.

So, I imagine if he drafted a player like Zielinski, he talked to him and has a sense of him coming. Also, keep in mind that the teams have to app.y to add the older players to the draft list. They can only add 3-5 players per team. So, it is not like they can jsut spam the draft list with names. IF they add a name, it is because they have a sense he may report. So, I imagine Ottawa had spoken to Zielinski prior to drafting him.

Regarding Brady, he is a RHD. That may be enough to keep him around. It may come down to how capable Johnson is. But, with injuries etc, I think they will keep the vet D-Man. HE likely isn’t worth all that much.

Mostly agree. Chitaroni for sure 100%. Hayes, maybe 50%. Johnson will play but I am not sure about top 4. I like him beside Marrelli as a mentor though so as long as he can play in that role, I think he may have a chance.

If Zielinski signs, he is playing top 9 without a doubt. We are short ont he right side and I think he would fit beside either one of Vandenberg(if he signs) or Chitaroni on line #3. Then we see what happens.

Regarding Hayes, it will come down to how many ‘07s they part ways with after the exhibition schedule. So many bodies that are somewhat capable. It will come down to whether they feel it is better for him to play minimal minutes in Ottawa or a big load of minutes in Tier II.

If Johnson is capable in the same way Eshkawkogan was capable last year, I think playing beside Marrelli si possible.

I think Hayes is probably better suited to go to Tier II at least in the first half of the season and see what happens at the deadline.

Zielinski and Vandenberg would both be 3rd line type players to start if they sign.

The Shorters are projects. Any discussion on them signing and playing this year is very premature. I think the returning Defence is too deep to insert both Johnson and Shorter. Same goes for Campbell.

I agree that Beast is probably being a little harsh but I don’t think he is all that far off. I do think he sulked when DC was trying to get him to play defence first as a 17 year old. When he was drafted in the 3rd round, I think he was pissed off at Cameron for ruining his chances of being a 1st round pick. He wanted out last summer. Some say he isn’t very well liked in the room but I cannot confirm that.

Based on a lot of what I have heard, the name Ryan Merkley may have some merit with Mews. I don’t’ know that as fact but it does sound somewhat similar.

That aside, Mews is a great player. he has some work to do on the defence but he plays the game effortlessly at this level. Maybe playing with older more mature players will force him to push harder. I will admit that he may be the type of player that does benefit playing at Michigan. But, if he does have a “Me First” attitude, it will be a rude awakening for him, I think.

I hope he matures in a positive way. I’d like to see him turn it all around and be a quality NHL player for a decade or more. I am not sure he has it in him though. Guys that point fingers elsewhere tend to never do what is necessary to take the next step because it is never their fault. When it isn’t their fault, they don’t focus on their weaknesses. They only ever want to play to their strengths.

Keep a strong eye on the U-18 draft this week. We have the early 1st round pick (3rd). That could end up being a goalie.
A goalie would be good. I think in last year's U/18 draft they took one (Liam Conway) as well as a defenseman, Theo Avila.

The U-18 hasn’t really unearthed anyone significant for the 67s ever. But this year may provide someone decent, especially if it were a goalie.

I went through the 67's drafts from 2022-2024 and took note of players already committed to college, and the year EP has them enrolling. Would be nice to get a couple of these guys on board.
