Ottawa 67s 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iii

Well interesting draft. Aside from Chiatoroni I haven't gotten enough info to comment on potential talent but the areas we needed...center, right shot forward, developmental D's and maybe the bug have been addressed. The big thing though is the size of the cohort, finally we may have a big team in 2-3 years especially if the two Shorter twins pan out...just love the name.

This is sorta friend/acquaintance of mines nephew...

Gonna be following him / team due to this being the only person other than matt foy (who also played for the 67s) that I know get this far haha.

Being a 12th rounder prob means he's in tough to go further/make the team? Just curious as to expectations (no I won't be relaying what's said here to them)

Just read on the 2009 born thread somebody did a composite ranking from 4 different sources...good work by the way. Chiateroni, Hayes and Campbell went in the area they were ranked. The one that surprised me was Johnson who was ranked as a first rounder (17) and we got him at 32 so maybe we got a break there.

Kudos to Oldtymehockeyguy for taking the time to amalgamate the rankings!

We won’t know how this draft works out until a few years from now but there are some solid elements. We did draft one ‘08, Blake Zielinski. It iwll be interesting to see if they can get him to report. He is committed to Providence for 2027-28. So, if he were to keep his commitment, he’d be gone after his 18 year old season. But, as with many other players that have commitments, we shall see how them playing Major Junior affects their enrolment date.

Some bigger kids drafted but we shall see if any develop. They did draft quite a few American kids which is interesting. I’m not sure what that means but, again, if they can get commitments, it will increase the size of the prospect pool, especially if they were drafted a little after their rankings.

Let's be candid - the 67's had some high picks in recent years who ultimately didn't become first line caliber players, which is why they ended up where they were this year. Hopefully this draft features top picks who play like top picks, and a couple of diamonds in the rough in the later rounds. We are due for some good luck...

Drafting the Shorter twins will be interesting. I am sure that having both will make it a little easier to sign. Looking at the USHL, the NCAA has their combine 17- 20 April. It is by invitation only, so it should be interesting to see how many of the kids we drafted attend.

Any idea if Ottawa is going to have a rookie camp this year

Would love to see the 2 shorter kids.

One thing about this team we are no longer the smaller team LOL

I think we’ve managed to hit on quite a few diamonds in the rough. We can point to the first rounders at times and even the 2nd rounder but we do get a few deeper picks that end up contributing quite well. @sirius67fan favourite player is a strong example!

Both those kids need time. I think the D-Man seems more likely to be a real prospect but his brother looks like he will need a couple years. But, it may be a new direction that could pay dividends. Who knows? We’ll need at least two seasons to find out.

To me the interesting pick is Zielinaki. When you pick a 17 year old that scores 30 points in 40 games as a 16 year old in the USHL, that says something.

Agreed I can see the Shorters playing CCHL

The only players I see making the team are
Chitaroni
Johnson
Zielinski If he is not a starter on the team he will go back to USHL Again same thing as Vandenberg wgere do they see him playing and what are they going to offer to make them sign

Campbell and Hayes have an outside shot

Could be a very competitive camp as a lot of our returning players have not shown much yet so I could see a few returnees get cut if some rookies shine.
