Ottawa 67s 2024 25 Season Thread Part Iii

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I'm just trying to understand the logic of the HC not being there for his team that's fighting for their life.

Maybe he was in therapy after what Trent yelled at him? Dunno. It is odd but who knows? He could have been sick. usually if that is the case, they woudl announce it on the radio or Kenny would have Tweeted it.

It will not be over tonight even if NB wins. Ottawa can still make it to the tie breaker if they win their last 2 games and NB loses Sunday. Tie breaker would be on Tuesday.
I am confused I thought the tie breaker was the most regular season wins. If NB wins tonight then they would be 4 points up but more inoortantly they would have tht extra win to 27 best Ottawa can do is 25 wins

Tie Breaker one is ROW (Regulation and Overtime Wins - not including shootout) Tie Breaker 2 is head to head. however
Tie for Last Playoff Position

At the conclusion of the regular season, if there is a tie for the last playoff position, the standing of the team’s playoff position shall be determined by the following tie-breaking procedure:

Between Two Teams – A sudden-death game shall be played between the two teams with the winner being declared higher in the standings. Such game is to be played on Tuesday, March 25th at one of the two teams centres with such centre to be determined by the OHL tie-breaking method.

Learn something new every day LOL

Quick question is DC with the team?

Nolan Jackson seems to be a capable OHL defenseman. At 18, he actually defends. On a team that struggles to score more than 2 a game, defense is crucial.

I’d say on a team that struggles to score 2 per game, offence would be more crucial…..

North Bay won tonight. Pretty easy now. Ottawa wins both their last games and NB loses their last game. Only combination left.

That is not something that can be readily fixed. It has taken a couple of years to dilute the offence to where it is today.

If this team is able to win two straight on the road, back to back, against superior opponents, I'll be impressed as hell. My primary interest right now is in staying lower in points than #9 in the West, thus improving our lottery odds. It's a bad year to be lousy, because really anyone could win the Eastern Conference. The three best teams in the OHL are all in the Western Conference, so any team in the Eastern Conference on a heater for the playoffs could go right to the OHL Final...

except to show off for their final game neither of these teams have a need to win. We are not going to see their best players.

As to Offence I think we know what is wsrong there.

This is a team that is going to take 3 years at least to really be competitive if they make the right moves now before the draft

Again I will ask is DC with the team on this road trip?

We jsut gave up the offence (Mews). I am ok with that but when you have nothing but defensive D-Men, then it begs the question, why bring in another one?

If you are looking strictly at the overall standings, I would agree. However, Brantford had some injury issues early in the year and weren’t able to really get th band back together until sometime in December. Since Jan 5, Brantford has gone 25-4-1. They are a freight train right now. In a battle for the top seed last night, they dominated Kingston in their own rink 4-0. If they can stay healthy in the playoffs, they will come out o the Eastern Conference. I would not have thought that even a month ago. But, both Oshawa and Barrie have played uninspired hockey overall and neither have demonstrated any real ability of going on a heater. Brampton is the other team that has demonstrated an ability to go on a bit of a heater. They’ve been injured all year. IF they go into the playoffs relatively healthy, they could do some damage.

Lardis may be the most impactful player in the league right now. Vanacker and O’Brien are both pure playoff style players. Leenders has been very solid in the 2nd half. They will roll though North Bay and will likely play Brampton or Oshawa in round 2. That is when things will start to get interesting.

Brantford might might not roll through NB. The regular season scores were NB 3-2; and Brantford 2-1, 3-2, and 2-1.

Regular season doesn’t really mean a whole lot. The teams aren’t playing playoff hockey. Top teams usually hold up a little when playing bottom teams. Backup goalies in and rolling four lines. Approach is way different.

Brantford has won 10 one goal games since January 5th when they started their 2nd half heater. During that same period, they only lost one one-goal game. They are comfortable playing close games. That team is so good. They pressure the puck really well, have some skill up front and their back end typically doesn’t give up much. They are such a strong playoff style team. They really have surprised me with how well they’ve played. I thought they were a year away but they really are ready now. So impressive.

Good to see Esh back! Did we ever hear what the injury was? Looked like something collarbone/shoulder/arm but I never saw any confirmation.

The battalion are not the ideal opponent as they are really not susceptible to the bulldogs zone trap. As long as NB does not get into too much penalty trouble, the games should remain close.
