The issue is they want you to renew your STH before March 31st without really seeing what may transpire concerning the possibilities you have mentioned. DC still around and I do not see a whole lot of improvement.

Before you say that Boyd shipped him, the question that is still unknown is what the situation would have been for a line to play on as well as a team.
Kingston has centers that can play center as well as some other good players to take the heat off.
Also, don't discount the difference in coaches. Mann would want him to score and keep him. If Uronen had the year he is having, Boyd would have traded him unless DC decided to put him on the second line and have him work on his defence.
I would like to see someone trade for Korbler, like Niagara, and see how he does with a different coach and system.
Sounds like a WJC coach I read about.
If I was in Ottawa I would be waiting to renew my STH first to see what the team has and also because there is little chance someone is going to buy them LOL
I still think that the best thing that could happen is for DC to announce that he has decided to retire after this year. I know many here think I am wrong, but I still believe that if DC is the coach going into the draft and after, a few of the agents will ask Boyd to pass on their players. The top 10 drafted, especially, all have NHL in their eyes, and so far, DC has not developed a single NHL star or top-round pick.
Goal-scoring, offensive-minded kids are not going to want to come here and sit on the bench.
You talk about NCAA players turning delaying. Why would you ifyou canstart youre education ans play learning a NCAA system or play on the sad sack 67's

I think they are going to have a hard time with renewals. In talking with people around me yesterday, I know of 6 STH (me being one) that have voiced concerns to their account rep about the direction of the team going forward. All have said coaching and GM are their biggest concerns. I really think once the 67s are eliminated, brass is going to have to come out and talk with STHs.

Not being able to trade Pinelli is the biggest issue. It sent the wrong message.
Had they been able to trade Pinelli, they’d have been able to communicate that this is a rebuilding year and they’d then be able to focus on the future. Had they been able to make a deal with Barrie for Vaughn, they’d could have put all their efforts behind hyping him. The fans would feel that sense of future on the horizon.
Their inability to get an impact player for Mews coupled with Pinelli untraded has created a scenario where the team looks like it his no direction and no future. Now, their only silver lining is linked to making the playoffs. From a PR perspective, keeping Pinelli and missing the playoff is a horrible result for the management. It really is a nail in the coffin for them from my perspective. You cannot overlook that.
Amidovski hasn’t made an impact yet either. I think he will take a step forward next year and things will be ok with him but his current level of production isn’t helping.
The Dave Cameron WJHC issue with Team Canada is a horrible distraction behind the scenes.
Another negative has been their inability to sign a top flight NCAA commit. They have signed a few of the mid to late round draft picks. They aren’t what we would call impact but, they do have a bunch of ‘07s signed and on roster. Unfortunately, none of them have provided any sort of consistent production. I do like a few of them and they are serviceable so hopefully a couple can come in next year and make a true impact. I think Kingwell could be one that has a shot at being a real player.
All that said, they do have some depth of bodies, especially in that ‘07 group. I don’t think things are quite as bad as they seem. They do need to find an elite centre. There is no way around it. It is a key element. That player doesn’t’ need to produce at an elite level next year but they do need a t least one young one that they can build around. If they can go out and find one, they can potentially salvage something.

Well, that’s likely it. Shorthanded all year, PK a disaster, not good enough when it mattered, and not able to make moves to build for the future. As mentioned the combination of not trading Pinelli and then missing the playoffs is a worst of all worlds combination. This team was short on skill, and a top-2 draft position would make all the difference this spring…but if we finish 17th we only have a 10% chance in the lottery. It doesn’t look like we can finish lower than 18th.

Amidovski and al rookieson this team suffer fromone thing. DC.s inability to coach rookies and develop players,
DC can only coach when he has enough senior players
This game in itself leaves me with questions.
Whitehead is supposed to be a center and has been but did not take 1 faceoff instead they had Varlas foster and Dever.
I think not only are the fans ready to see DC go but there are players and parents that want him out as well probably.
This is a team that should be building lines for the future the young guns should be getting ice time
Ekberg should have been on a first line instead of Korbler.
Trading Pinelli would have allowed the rookies to get more ice time even if they did not get any star players they would have had space.
A player that thinks oence is not going to want to come here.
The WJHC was not just a distraction but it showed ED's inability to coach top plyers with ofence.
The worst case scenario would be DC stays as coach and the 67's draft first over all to have the pick advise that he wants to be traded. That would or should be the end for Boyd and DC as wells the 67s.
I think after the game DC has to announce his retirement or Ottawa has to announce that they are ending his contract.

Last year, the final standings were:
20th - Niagara (4th)
19th - Windsor (1st)
18th - Peterborough (3rd)
17th - Sarnia (2nd)
Niagara had the best chances and finished with the 4th pick. Sarnia with a 10% chance ended up with the 2nd pick. Anything can happen.
As of right now, Ottawa will likely end up in the 17th or 18th spot. I highly doubt Guelph or Peterborough catch them. That said, Ottawa has a really tough schedule the rest of the way. It would not surprise me if they ran out the season with no additional points. Guelph has a relatively weak schedule the rest of the way and games in hand. I doubt it will matter but it is something to keep an eye on.
The same thing is happening around me 4 STH are definitely leaving. In addition my wife and I may do the same. I am sure their are many more hesitating with the upcoming renewals.

Is it because of poor performance this year, expected poor performance next year, or a lack of direction?

Lack of direction for me is the most frustrating. I’ll likely renew anyhow (I am a sucker for junior hockey), but I wish this team had a clear plan and path back to contention. Picturing this team without Pinelli and Mayich next year, no one on the roster seeming primed to start scoring at a high level anytime soon, and questionable asset management are all reasons to doubt that we are on our way anywhere but perennially fighting for 8th.

They have a lot of bodies. Again, the lack of natural centres is concerning. But, there is always the improvement based on advancing age and experience. So, guys like Ekberg, Kingwell, Amidovski, Whitehead, and Yanni should make more of an impact next year.
Ad an early Import pick, an early Priority Selection pick, and hopefully a good U-18 early pick as well as one NCAA commit, and we could start to look at least like a team on a decent trajectory. Will that team be competitive next year? No. It would probably be around .500 but at least they will have some decent young guys to look forward to.
From a trade asset perspective, only Marrelli would have a deadline impact. But, it isn’t likely they’d move him. I think he lines up as a solid OA prospect so other than maybe thinning out the herd and getting a few mid-round picks, there likely won’t be much in the way of flipping assets next year.
So, overall, I think you are right. But, I am not sold on them being perpetually in 8th. I think next year may be lean, yes. But, I do think there are prospects that could be competitive the following year with the right direction and support added this year.

People come to games for a few reason.
1) talk with old friends
2) becuase it has beena family tradition
3) no other tnetertainment around.
40 they are entertained and enjoy the interaction
from what I am reading and my ownexperience.
1) most of my friends are no longer going to hockey games some moved away and sadly some passed on.
2) family traditions are not a big thing now people have different things goingon in their lives
3) there is no loack of things to do in Ottawa on a friday night Sat apr Sunday afternoon in NCC
4) a defensive team that does ot hve the offensive play or players that stand out and entertain is boring. Especially if it is losing all the time.
I may be wrong but STH are mostly long time fans and as such are gettng older and more things become interesting. Then there is the lack of parking and game day experieince. Interaction with theplayers is also important and from what I read I am not sure it is at the level it was before.
Say what you want about Dick Stef and the ex of the booster club but they always made sure that the fans were part of the team and ran things for fan interaction adn enjoyment.
I now that as Riley there were kids that wanted to come to the hockey game to dance and see Riley adn what he was going to do. There were adults that also enjoyed the terrible 2's that we put on.
Those are the things that are missing from the game. I noticed it in Kingston also when they left the M Center there was a lack of ability to enjoy. the mini games refereeed by one of the riley's was entertaining.
BUT the big thing was on the ice we had players that played well and entertained either withtheir hitting, scoring goaltending or fighting.
My biggest beef is lack of direction. Knowing you are going to lose on most given nights
is also not entertaining.

Yes. I think the longer time STH may feel similar. I think fans can get behind a rebuild when they are prepared for a rebuild and feel like the current management is equipped to do it properly. I think there is a lot of uncertainty.
But, I don’t see a reason why fans would not renew now. I think renewing is a good option for those that like the hockey. Give the team another seaosn to work it out. See what happens. IF there is no change then I think you have your answer.
