It's the Pete's tonight and it's change for the 67s for the next few weeks.
- We've likely seen the last of Pinelli in an Ottawa uniform. IMO he's been an outstanding if maddening performer over his 67s career - thank you Luca! And for those who've wondered how Ottawa scores without him in the lineup (his 21 goals is a huge chunk of a thin 67s offense), we're about to find out.
- Also no DC for the next month. Will coach Milley be a Cameron-lite and will he play the kids more?
- We're missing Pinelli and Eckberg for a month. Who are we calling up? I presume it'll be Perrier and (?)

Doesn't look like they have called anyone up. Also only listing Nelson on the scoresheet for tonight.

You're assuming that Pinelli makes Team Canada. I don't think that's a given - he had better score today in the uSports game and look good doing it if he wants to make it...

Has anybody heard whether the team’s management is now pivoting towards selling? It seems obvious but I can’t even remember the last time this organization sold off.

Do you think Pinelli makes the WJC?
I think he would be a worthwhile addition to the squad and on skill probably belongs, but will probably be cut in favour of someone with less skill who they think can play 3rd/4th line as a checker or energy guy, knowing Hockey Canada…they seem completely allergic to just icing the 13 best forwards and 7 best defencemen and contort themselves into justifying role selections instead.

I'd bet @OMG67 a $100 he doesn't make it :)
Have we found our bet sir?

I’m not confident that’s a 50-50 chance. I think there are about 8 players vying for three available slots. Pinelli is one of them. That gives him a 35% chance probably? And that assumes no players get reassigned.

I think Pinelli can play a bottom six role 5 on 5 and contribute to the power play which gives him a chance but he is smaller and tends to take penalties trying to be tenacious. I don’t think you can play bottom six and take penalties. So, I’m not sure he can play as aggressively with Team Canada as he plays in Ottawa or will play at the pro level. He can’t lean on guys because he is too small. I’m not familiar enough with the guys he is battling for position with to have an honest opinion.

I think he has a strong chance but it’s probably in the 35% range.

Daniel Giusti listed as the backup for today’s game. He was our 15th round pick in the 2023 draft. I’m not sure if they have signed him to an Affiliate Card or not. I’m sort of surprised Donovan isn’t the backup since I heard they did sign him to an Affiliate card. Why would they have Giusti as a BUG? It would make more sense that he is signed to an Affiliate card.

Seemed like a decent showing for Pinelli for Team Canada
Do you think Pinelli makes the WJC?

He has looked pretty good versus the U Sports team in the two games the last few days.
Decent scoring chances, setup a few more, has been dynamic and always on the move.

Also got PK and PP and 4 on 4 time today, in the "made-up" penalty situations.
We shall find out very soon...

Kemptville does have a game against Cornwall tonight. Donovan may not be available.

I mentioned months ago, 67s coaches for Team Canada seem to have a history of having the pull to select one of their own players,
Pinelli is having a pretty good season on a weaker OHL team, is top 5 in goals, and has looked good in the exhibition games versus U Sports 22, 23 and 24 year old's.

He did according to Scott wheeler

Unreal Luca Pinelli is on the team and no Beckett sennecke
Beckett Sennecke was a last minute add to fill in for Easton Cowan so it should have been expected that he was going to be cut as he was a long shot to make the team.

Then what is the point in bringing him to camp if he wasn’t going to make it anyways? I heard he was one of the best forwards there

I wanted to but it was the bad penalties that he takes that held me back. Since I was unable to see any of the scrimmages or exhibition games, I was unsure what his impact looked like not being as agressive. I wasn’t’ sure his game would translate not playing on the edge.

EDIT: I just looked at the roster. They have 14 forwards and 8 Defence. I thought it was 13 forwards and 7 defence. If I had known they were taking that number, I’d have taken your bet. I think they can only dress 20 skaters plus the two goalies so it looks like two guys likely don’t dress each game?

Team Canada has always had a habit (bad?) of selecting a roster that has flexibility between the top and bottom 6. They seem to gravitate towards taking a top 6 where they don’t’ care if they cannot play defence at an elite level. They look at it as scoring players and that’s it. Then they try to select a bottom six (+1) that can play defence, kill penalties AND be able to drill up the lineup in case of injury or weak performance.

A kid like Senneke was likely looked at as a top 6 player. Maybe there was one winger spot available in that top 6 role and Senneke didn’t outperform the competition for that spot.

I said when the camp rosters were announced that Pinelli can play that bottom 6 role quite well and contribute as a shooter on the PP. Seems I was correct in that regard. We will see what sort of impact he can bring to that lineup. But, my assumption is he wills tart in a bottom 6 role.

Great news about Pinelli making team Canada — perhaps increasing value at deadline…maybe squeezing an extra 2nd out of highest bidder?????
