Watching the Zammy clean the ice between periods is more exciting than this hockey game. Hopefully we find some legs for the 3rd

Great work by Ekberg on that 2nd goal…. I don’t think he gets a point but he set all of that up and made that goal happen.
Ekberg has been playing well all night - drew three penalties in the first too (not that our PP could do anything with that). Ekberg-Whitehead-Amidovski has been maybe our second best line all night and has been rewarded with regular ice time. It is the most Amidovski has played all year I think. Hopefully they keep it up as it is nice to see them playing effectively. Dever’s line is mostly sleepwalking tonight and Barlas’ line is just playing ok.

I think the boys played almost as well as they could today. Our stars showed up to carry the load: Mews, Pinelli, Stonehouse, Mack, and Mayich. Eckberg good too. The rest were trying to chip in. We are a .500 team currently and we are having success due to superb coaching.

There's been a lot of crapping here on DC but the only reason we are here and this consistently "good" is because of DC. His job is to take whatever resources he's given and to coach them to win games. I'd say he's done that.

With better resources he'd do better. That's up to Boyd. If we weren't so good for so long we'd be picking higher in the draft. Maybe Boyd should allow the team to suck more for 2 years and we'll get some big skilled picks. I'm not sure he has that choice. If he has, maybe DC isn't the right choice of coach for the next phase.

From a “team preparedness” perspective, DC is a really good coach. That isn’t the issue. The issue is whether he has the traits necessary to connect and develop ALL players. Other teams are starting to gear up and “catch up” to where DC has had Ottawa for the last 6 weeks. OS is a five game below .500 team that has already sold off Barlow, have Konnor Smith injured and are on a 3 game in 4 day roadie. This should be an easy Ottawa win. It wasn’t.

Boyd is a good GM. He drafts well. He has made a lot of solid “seller” trades for players that have requested to be moved. He has brought in some pretty good elite players in buyer trades as well. His test now comes in bagging some NCAA bound players and get them to delay their start date for College by one year so they can play through their 19 year old season. Let’s see what he can do there.

I have always defended Cameron and I think he's a good coach. Having said that, at this point, he may be a good coach for a different team. Because of his lineup decisions I'm really starting to lose patience.

There's no doubt that the team has mostly played very well, probably better than expected. Having said that, most of the key prospects didn't get the kinda role they should have this season. In fact, Eshkawkogan is pretty much the lone kid getting such a role. Ekberg's ice time has been very up and down and when he was on the top line he played wing only. Whithead's icetime has been very up and down as well but he mostly had too small of a role. Amidovski barely gets to play in most games.

To me it's just not enough. Overall it's not enough. I understand he wants to win but you still have to play the kids. Even if you wanna win and add this season you can only justify it with your key kids making progress. You can't justify adding if Kooper Foster is your top Center. Again, Cameron is a good coach but I don't really see the plan. It's more of the same of what we saw last season when Cameron did play Mews, Marrelli and Körbler but basically none of the other kids. He even played clearly injured vets over Yanni and Whitehead during playoffs and by doing so, completely ruined his 4th line.

I think Ekberg and Whitehead were very dynamic; Amidovski got a lot of ice, but I honestly think he held that line back. Maybe shouldn't be hard on him given he has yet to play much?

I honestly thought Pinnelli did not have his best game today, He gave up the puck in our own end several times, and had the puck knocked off his stick a few more times at the OS blue line. BUT, he definitely made up for it at the end of the game with several gutsy shot blocks when it really mattered.

I think we have seen two outstanding performances from Mews this weekend. I was mentioning to my daughter on Friday that he was great, carrying the puck very effectively into the opposition end with a lot of speed, control and confidence.
Anybody else get the sense he has been given a little more freedom to get involved in leading and joining the attack?

Very gutsy performances from Marrelli in both games too. On Friday had his face cut open, and then smashed into the glass by Barlow, but he never relented and had several impact defensive tough plays.

Given Foster's poor face-off skills, Stonehouse seems to be taking that lines big faceoffs, and I think that is a good move by the coaching staff.

Gadder is one of the loudest and persistent voices against DC. Let me explain.

DC might be a good coach, but he relies on his top two lines and larger players. I have yet to see anyone on this team who he has developed into a better player. On the contrary, Mews dropped in the NHL ratings, and Ekberg is almost off the page even though he was one of the top-listed players.

where he really lost me though was last year in the playoffs no one saw this team as going all the way except Boyd, OMG and DC. In order to do that he shortened his bench and played players that were injured instead of players that were healthy and had the fire. He messed up stonehouses
career by not getting him the surgery or assistance he needed earlier. He dressed a player that could barely hold a stick.

That, to me, is bad coaching. This year he was given a team with a lot of young talent a center that

We are enthused to officially welcome Nathan to the Ottawa 67’s,” said 67’s General Manager James Boyd. “He is a smooth skater, who boasts a combination of size, skating, and offensive tools.”

So what happens to this 11th overall pick going to a rebuilding team? He gets one shift a game and sits on the bench.

@OMG67 said that Boyd has drafted well mmm Barlas, HB good drafting. As to his other picks, let's see Whitehead spend the year sitting on the bench, Yanni spent it in Jra, and when he came up on the bench, Then you have Amidovski, who is, according to the way he is being played either a bad draft pick by Boyd or missused by the coach.

We have the top rookie scorer in the league playing on the 4th line even though

Filip is a proven point producer who has played a key role with Sweden’s national teams. He joined elite company in 2023-2024, playing in Sweden’s Allsvenskan professional league as a 16-year-old,” said 67’s General Manager James Boyd. “We are thrilled to welcome him to the Ottawa 67’s for the next phase of his development.”

Jan has a always been able to get the star players from Europe so it is Boyd not drafting the right players and overhyping them or DC not knowing how to play and develop them.

The only reason that Esh is getting the icetime that he is we are short defenceman

Let me tell you one thing right now I’ve said it before and I don’t want to say it again

Stonehouse injury gave him absolutely no pain, his nhl team told him he didn’t need to get surgery right away, why do you keep saying this stuff about playing injured players in the playoffs, he was absolutely fine in fact him Dever & Horner was our best line.

OK MISTER I AM SO SMART.

Explain to me how it is good business to draft one of the best talents in Euro hockey for this draft, tell everyone how good he is, and then play him on the fourth line.

Explain the same thing about your first-round pick that the GM was gushing about and only play him 1 shift a game, if that.

That is the point I am making. DC does not play well with rookies or player development. Who has he developed since he came here?

I do cheer on the team, but I have to have something to cheer about. While these guys are doing well, you cannot develop players by not playing them.

Also, if you mess them up, it sends a message to future players that they might not want to play here.

It isn’t that you make off base remarks. It is the volume of them and you do not provide any balance.

I criticize DC but I also point out the positives. I highlight both sides.

For example, DC is a good systems coach. I don’t think anyone can argue that. He has his teams well prepared for games. Sure, maybe there is the odd stinker but it happens in Junior hockey. His ability to prepare his team and install a system that wins hockey games is very very good. The challenge with that is his teams start out better than others and it creates a false sense of optimism. Other teams start slower and build momentum. Not these DC 67’s teams. We saw it this weekend with OS. OS is a team we should beat handily if they are the team some on here suggest they are but we barely squeezed by with a win. Why? It is because even the weaker teams are starting to catch their stride. But, at the end of the day, his players play hockey the right way. That speaks volumes as to how good he is.

Where DC is weak? He has a tendency to overplay his veteran players. Maybe this affects the progress of younger players but the younger players that play the game right and ut forth the effort seem to get more ice than the others. Case in point, Horner, Houben and Korbler. None of these players provide the stability and results that justify their ice time but they play DC’s way and put forth significant effort every shift. So, they play. Other younger players that don’t put forth the same effort end up playing less, even if they are future elite players.

We’ve had a handful of players all not want to be in Ottawa. It points to the coach. It is what it is. It shows that he may not be the best at communicating with the players. So, from my perspective, do we want a 67 year old coach that seems to be lacking the ability to connect with players to restart this next rebuild? THAT is the question we need to ask. IMO, we shouldn’t want that regardless of how good DC is at preparing his teams.

Kilrea just turned 90. He was fine thorugh around 70-71. After that? His teams started to be a lot more inconsistent. His moves as a GM were highly questionable. I think when coaches start getting close to 70, you really need to separate their past fromt heir present and really take a strong and hard look at whether you wan tthe coach for another cycle. We ar win a position heading into next season where we will be in year one of the next cycle. It could end up being a 4 year cycle. So, the choice to keep DC isn’t about next year, it is about the next four years. Should he be here for another full cycle. That’s the question.

Regarding the Amidovski point:

If accounts are true of him developing an inflated ego (only because of the name on his back), not practicing hard and not being coachable, then most would argue that having him sit on the end of the bench and getting limited ice time, IS part of his "development". The mental aspect of the game is vitally important for him to achieve his full potential as a hockey player, just as important as his ice time. So it could be argued that not playing him has been part of "developing" him. That is a lesson he needs to learn now,

I don't think it was a coincidence that Cameron and the coaching staff went out of their way to praise the work of lesser talented player like Houben and Horner for their work ethic. Surely that was a message to the likes of Amidovski (who is more talented), but simply has not "earned" his ice time yet. And surely, also if accounts are true that parents/agents come screaming about lack of ice time, this won't be the first time, or the last. It is not an indictment on the coaching staff, it is just part of the game. The (Amidovski) kid played lots yesterday, let's hope he keeps his head on straight and keeps working!

And don't have blinders on, look at the big picture. Houben and Esh and Yanni and Dietsch and Ekberg are all rookies this season. All have in their own ways made significant progress already this season and get lots of ice.

Remember Dylan Robinson a few years ago? Kid had talent, toughness and should have been a leader of the team in his last season with the 67s. Unfortunately he became really selfish, and single-handedly cost his team 3 or 4 wins in a two week stretch. He got released, no CHL team picked him up, and last I heard he was playing lacrosse. Extreme example, but demonstrating the point of the mental aspect of the game you can't judge solely on ice time.

The Attack is firmly in a rebuild, having lost OA Guindon ( Kingston) Bryant ( Peterborough), Jordan , Steen, etc..

They dressed 8 rookies yesterday . As the GM says, " it's not about this year ".
Progress happening .

Hope next year the fan club can include Ottawa in our trip. A favorite stop .

And to also build on that, there are more than a handful of player in their first true year. I would suggest Whitehead is also in his first full year. He didn’t play much last season. He dressed a lot of games but like Amidovski, he didn’t play much.

Hunter sends pretty much all 16 year olds other than his first rounder to Jr A/B before playing with the Knights. This may be something to consider for the 67’s. This is a really difficult league for 16 year olds.

I heard a slightly different story for Amidovski but your point still applies. The question is whether that approach should be employed for all players. DC takes a “my way or the highway” approach that simply doesn’t work for everyone. I think a good coach these days needs to find what motivates a player individually and work that angle. I don’t feel DC’s strength aligns with that style.

But, I think a lot of this goes back to the same as what I mentioned for Mark Hunter. Send your 16 year olds to JrA/B. Don’t keep them on the big club as 16 year olds unless they are ready and able to play significant minutes. I think this really would help with the perception of development if nothing else.

As an outsider, I always have held Ottawa in high regard. Outshot thoroughly, eek out a 4-3 win, manage to give all 3 stars to Ottawa players. Don't tell me the 67s are joining the majority of teams giving reason to do away with 3 star selections. Pick a player of the game from each side.

Call me a homer but Kitchener is among the very few who consistently are fair and balanced. Kill the 3 stars if it's a farce or just a way to be a cheerleader for your team. I'd rather have cheerleaders.

Mike Farwell? Or does every Kitchener fan really, really care about 3 stars?

McCue should have been a star over Pinelli without a doubt in my mind.

Mews with 2+2 and Stonehouse with the game winner and was a massive distraction for OS drawing at least two penalties. I get those two. But, Pinelli was half useless yesterday. He just backed into two points.
