2. Not counting the pandemic years, basically. He played 68 and 55 games during the pandemic which seems in line since Tkachuk played 71 and 56 in those same seasons.
Fair enough. Injuries happen. I don’t see Ottawa moving Brady though. He is such a stud. I like barzal but brady is one of my favourite players. Maybe im bias. The way islander fans talk about Dobson though…. Maybe Dobson is the real key piece in this trade proposal

He’s missed just about 65 games in his career, that’s not counting shortened seasons for pandemic.

Interesting. I didn’t realize Dobson was top ten D. Didn’t have him in my top 10. But it’s hard to gauge. I only see a few nyi games a year and I never thought about him much until now.
he’s not, but he’s probably top 25 and is right handed and under team control. Hes got at least as much trade value as Brady and if they were traded for each other straight up no one would blink an eye.

Barzal is injury prone. 8 nhl seasons. 4 he missed significant time with injuries no?
No. This narrative has been created by people who are looking at games played and forgetting the shortened seasons.

Which would be odd given they have Sanderson and Chabot. I don't think many teams in the NHL have or want three players making over 8 a season on D (though that could conceivably be the norm with the cap rising).

I don't see why they would trade him either, tbh. I'd rather have him for two-three more seasons and lose him for the typical trade deadline return.

Ok?

And again, about half of those will be from blocking a shot trying to preserve a late game lead playing 6 on 5. Hard nosed playoff hockey type stuff.

Speaking of the playoffs, he averages the same amount of PPG in the post season as Brady has over his career. So while it makes sense to project Brady as a probably potentially solid post season performer based on his play style and tournament performances, Barzal actually has a track record of contributing to his team in the NHL playoffs over a number of seasons.

So yeah, let's just do away with all of this "they're soft/ they're injury prone" stuff. Just made up junk from people who don't watch the players and can't even maintain objectivity when looking at stat sheets.

This is the kind of thread that we will up in a few years and laugh about it, after Brady's hype settles down... No way in hell I'm giving a young #1D and a #1C for Pinto and Brady.
Isles fan here .. if Barzal was a true #1 center and not just our first line center and Dobson was a true #1 Dman and not just someone that plays on our top pair the NYI would be a much better team

Value is good for Ottawa but the deal doesn't make sense because their position of weakness is VERY CLEARLY at forward, their defense is actually good (well, minus Hamonic)

Getting Barzal would be good but however a bit risky as 9.15 is pricey if he misses games. Dobson is not really a need, but more more offense from RHD wouldn't hurt of course. Ottawa can't really afford to trade Pinto IMO.

Of course, that deal would be IF Brady wants to go to a US team
Barzal is durable over his career. Had some unfortunate injuries last 60 games but overall very durable and comes to play in the post season. He comes with NHL hardware and multiple 80 points NHL seasons playing for a low octane nyi squad. 9 million under the new cap coming up is a great deal with what 7 years locked up in his prime? If Lou trades him someone will love him.

Personally, I'm not sure if Tkachuk will want to stay long term so I'd do Tkachuk for Barzal. Ottawa should not trade Pinto, like I said they need help at forward already

?????? - Stutzle - Batherson
Barzal - Norris - Giroux
Greig - Pinto - ??????

Just need to replace Perron and Amadio adequately. Both Stutzle and Barzal would drive their lines, will also need to replace GIroux but as I said, Sens need a lot of help at forward

Awful trade for Ottawa.

Awful trade for Ottawa.

Barzal has 6 years left at 9.15 AAV, Tkachuk has 3 years left at 8.2 AAV and it's actually very far from a guarantee that he'd re-sign in Ottawa (if he doesn't force a trade before like his brother did). Re-signing him could also be risky for Ottawa as he will be 28 y/o with the need a new contract (8 years brings him, a powerforward, at 36 y/o). Very risky. Barzal contract expires at 34 y/o, which is ideal. With the cap evolving, Brady will probably make more than Barzal on his next contract too

Now if you compare the players, of course, Tkachuk goal scoring and physical game is very impactful but Barzal is an Elite skater and puck possession monster, Sens would have 2 elite play drivers on their top 2 lines. Barzal numbers could be even better than PPG on a more offensive minded team.
