Unreal signing...Zub is a beast defensively....high hockey iq dman ....he won't put up a lot of points but he's a major stabilizer on the right D side

Another thing thats nice about him is that even though he doesnt have much offensive skill, he isn't a black hole either. He won't drive the play, but it also won't die on his stick as he can make a decent pass when needed.

Phenomenal deal. Congrats Ottawa fans.

Paging SensCanes or any other Sens fans. What's your defense gonna be like next year? Just curious.

Great news! The Sens were so short on defense they couldn't afford to lose him. At least they have a big 3 to build upon! If they can add another top 4 defender to Chabot Sanderson Zub, the D will be decent next year. Need to upgrade on Hamonic, Zaitsev, and Holden. I don't mind Brannstrom on the bottom pairing, need to add a 4 and a 5/6.
I think JBD or Hamonic will be fine on the third pairing right side for next season. Holden and Zaitzev have been doing their best the last couple of years but the time has come to say good bye after this season..

Seems fairly typical for the defense 1st player type. Manson, Chiarot, Gudbranson, Larsson, Tanev and Murphy are all on the Jeep contract.
Yeah but it is a big difference between a top pairing defense first guy like Zub compared to a bottom pairing one like Gudbranson..

For as much “complaints” from past players on the conditions in Ottawa, they sure seem to do very well on most contract negotiations, specifically this case for a pending UFA who could have left for likely more

The team is young, the core is promising and the room hasn't devolved into cliques yet from the looks of it. Now that Screuge is dead, a lot of people are hopeful.

Our roster is still very weak because our depth players are mostly trash unfortunately. If our top players aren't at their absolute best, we get obliterated.

It’s a rare instance.

He bought into the culture change. The new younger locker room and management change probably helped.

Him not having any experience with any other professional North American club probably helps as well.

If this was as early as two years ago I don’t think this extension gets done.

Really nice deal for the Sens here and the term is perfect. He’s a guy that every team wishes they had picked up from Russia

I think injuries (especially Norris and Zub) and coaching are much bigger issues than the depth players.

Management change?

Last time I checked, Dorion is still the general manager.
