Pinto for JJP?

This trade could be a solid deal for both teams, depending on their strategic direction:

  • Ottawa might benefit from Peterka's offensive upside since they want to address their wing depth.
  • Buffalo would likely see the greater short-term benefit from adding a defensive, responsible center like Pinto, but they would have to weigh the loss of Peterka’s potential in a high-scoring role.
In summary, it's a "maybe" deal, and the fit would depend on both teams’ priorities for the future.

No.

Pinto will be absolutely invaluable as a C. Plays all situations and has 20 points in last 27 games during our most difficult stretch. 6'3, excellent faceoffs, excellent 2 way, excellent PK.

He's as untouchable as anyone on our roster.

One for one Peterka for a top 6 C is interesting. His O-zone starts are balls this season which probably is hurting his production, but he is currently a 3C in production and Peterka is a top line winger for us.

I think Ottawa might do it, but would first try to acquire a winger by basically any other means.

Stutzle - Norris - Pinto - Greig - Ostapchuk looks pretty good, until you remember that Norris has missed 50% of his games over the last three years and Pinto has missed close to that over his last four. Obviously the half season gambling suspension plays into that. I love Greig, but more as a 3C/top 6 winger. And he will never be a PP option like Pinto/Norris.

Good value for Ottawa, fills a need, but if Norris' shoulder craters we will be facing a far more important and difficult to fill need.

As for Buffalo, that feels like a tough trade for them to make too.

It is not that Pinto is irreplaceable, As far as I am concerned only Stu and Sanderson are untouchable.

It is more about making a hole to plug another hole. And the new hole is a bigger risk because of Norris.

Value is fair and if anything maybe Ottawa tosses in a B pick/prospect.

For the reasons people stated above, it's still iffy from a Senators perspective because of the hole it creates. People outside of Ottawa don't realize how good and valuable Pinto is and the crush that (at least some of) Senators management has on the kid. He fills a role that no one on the team does/can.

Seems like one of those proposals that both fanbases will have a hard time with which probably means it's close to fair, but also one where both teams probably hang on to their guy.

Also, it wouldn't be a Peterka to Ottawa thread without someone mentioning that they could have had him for free but Dorion and the scouts tried to big brain the pick and ended up with Jarventie (who has now ended up being Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson which in comparison to JJP is...yuck)
