Cozens is definitely not a bruiser. He has hit more this season, but they're more like check the box hits than aggressive hits. If you're expecting a fearless player who skates around and imposes himself physically all over the ice, you're going to be disappointed. He's more of a speed, transition puck carrier with a good, but inconsistent shot.

Could any sens fans give a brief synopsis of Norris' injury history?

That article summarizes it.

He originally had shoulder surgery in College, and since 2021-22 has injured it there times, including two surgeries. He missed roughly half of the possibly games he could play.

The Sens aren't transparent about smaller injuries. He missed something like 8 games this season.

He has had some really strong games over the last month or so. I can see why a team that is in a better position to gamble on him might do it. Especially if it's a GM who needs to turn things around quick and knows that they may not be around anyways to deal with the fallout if he gets hurt again.

If it weren’t for the 4 nations he’d have missed about 15 games this season.

He’s missed 130 the past 3.5 years.

The frenzy to justify or adjudicate trades minutes into their tenures with their new teams has always amused me.

When you look at the circumstances for both teams this seems like a very fair win/win type swap.

Whether Buffalo should have had to add a 2nd, I don't know - but the main idea of the trade does make a lot of sense for both sides.

I think both players will do well in their new spots.

Cozens looked great today. Ottawa needed a big body who could drive to the net, and he did exactly that. Played a simple, hard, straight line game. If you could describe a perfect complement to Batherson, it's probably him. Now the Sens should be able to run Tkachuk-Stützle as a duo, and Cozens-Batherson as a duo.

Norris is a great guy and a very polished, detail-oriented player, so I think he'll fit in nicely in Buffalo as well.

i like this for ottawa. im surprised buffalo took on norris with his injury history

They have shown almost no significant improvement since Adams took over as GM, and this now look sto be their fifth season finishing around the basement of the league. The honeymoon period where losing is attributed to them rebuilding is running out.

If Norris and the 2nd come back to bite Buffalo in the ass, Adams is fired anyways. If Norris can stay healthy and play 19-20 minutes a night in a key two-way role for Buffalo, they are a better team and it might help Adams keep his job.

I am not suggesting that this is how Adams approached the trade, but Norris injury issues are for the next GM to deal with, not Adams. So it makes perfect sense when it comes out that it's Buffalo or even Nashville who were talking Norris. While I assume that Trotz has a longer leash than most rookie GMs due to his reputation in the league, for almost any other GM those contracts he signed this offseason and how it all panned out would be a fireable offense. So I could imagine he is another GM in the, either Norris helps us now or I'm gone in a year or two anyways category.

Seems like such a useless trade
I don't think so. Staois just traded a "core" piece, got bigger down the middle and maybe most importantly freed up the money to acquire Zetterlund.

Meanwhile, Buffalo gets an excellent player if he can stay healthy and someone who will help their PP for years

Thats the editorial spin ;)

Because Tage Thompson is in Norris spot on the half wall. They’re wasting Norris’ most useful asset.
would still try and put norris in a shooting position

if you arent going to let norris shoot, his value disappears and that contract will look bad really quickly

Based on the one game I can see where people think he has weak IQ but imo the biggest thing seems like he forgot how to play on instincts.

I think expectations to be the 7 million dollar C and apparently he got rocked in a fight so a concussion? Got to him.

But I think there's a solid player buried underneath there.

Hopefully the change in environment and the coaching from guys like Alfredsson resets him.

Just saw that Buffalo had Norris parked at the front of the net for the PP at practice.

Why?
We have Rasmus Dahlin, Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch and a variety of others. Freaking Owen Power and Bowen Byram can't crack our top PP unit.

Our PP is trash and has been for 2+ years. It's all because of coaching. Either that or our players can't be coached.

PP is both skill and IQ. Especially IQ for the guy at the top.

I don’t understand this trade for buffalo. I like Norris a lot but the injury history and contract to me makes him less valuable than Cozens.

When was the last time you actually watched Cozens? He’s been complete and utter ass for 2 years. It’s not even a question that Norris, when healthy, has been better in that time frame.

This trade was the most interesting to me. Mainly because I don't know how to value either guy. Both of them could be considered very valuable youngish pieces or cap dumps. I think if Norris can stay healthy and Cozens can find his game it could be a win/win. I also think both of those things are 50 50 shots.

0.05 points per game separates them over the last 2 seasons. That equals about 4pts per full season, which Josh Norris has never played.

I agree Norris has been better overall, but it's not by a big margin.
