Everybody wins, except the Flames who now get to watch Matthew ask for ~9 million.

It's overpayment, but it's a contract that needed to get signed. Sens couldn't afford another Stone situation.

If he wears the C and hits 60-70 points with better linemates than he's had up to this point, we're gravy.

This cap hit isn't a big deal now. But wait till Stutzle, Sanderson, Norris etc are up. Gets crowded in a hurray. That Matt Murray contract is already a disaster.

That's alot of money for intangibles.
45 points career high.

Pretty sure he can top that over the next 7 years though.

8.2 million for a 45 point winger is fine though for the Sens... they have the room.

If Stutzle gets 70+ points this year what will he ask for when his time comes? 9+ million? 10? Same for Norris?

Why do people have such a hard on with our internal cap issue? Or internal cap issue in general?

Just because you outscore Brady doesn’t mean you can ask for 8m+.

By that logic, if you don’t outscore Batherson you should just be ready to accept under 4.9m.

It can’t just work one way to conveniently be negative about a contract.

Murrays contract will be done by the time Sanderson needs an extension.

I'm not worried about Cap. Sens can give all those guys generous, long-term extensions and still be well below the cap.

Unfortunately that just means he’ll be traded in a few years assuming Melnyk is still the owner.
I think you might be right. Looking at the structure of the contract the actual money per year is :

yr 1 ~~~4 million
Yr 2 ~~~6.5 million
Yr 3~~~10.5 million
Yr 4~~~10.5 million
Yr 5~~~10.5 million
Yr 6~~~8.5 million
Yr 7~~~7 million

I’d expect him to be traded in 2 years before the 10.5 mil salaries kick in

Woof thats an L for the Sens. They obviously caved.

It is better to have him playing than sitting in a press box, but that AAV is way too high compared to what Brady has shown thus far. He's going to have to develop a lot more to make that price tag worth it.

Too funny. They did not cave at all, we're lucky to get him at that price for 7 years. Gonna f***ing terrorize the East.

Meh who has Brady actually played with when we have bottom 5 team for the last 4 seasons??His actual linemates just had their first full season last year..Norris and Batherson

The only concern I'd have with this contract is the Stuzle and Norris asks next if he continues to look good. Not that it would be bad to have them worth big bucks, but is Melnyk willing to pay multiple players big money at the same time.

Overall don't think it's a terrible contract, I think 7 - 7.5 would have been closer to fair value but Tkachuk got that Ottawa "tax" about an extra million.

If what we've heard is true, it's Tkachuk who caved. Senators got 7 years for an additional $200k.

Way too much. I'm firmly behind Dorion and Melnyk on holding out for this long.
Brady is a top 6 winger. He shouldn't be making more than Chabot.
This number is going to royally screw them when (hopefully) Stutzle outranks him on the wing depth chart and Norris establishes himself as a true 1C.

The season hasn't been played yet? No one is promising playoffs for the Senators. Where are you getting this from lol

If you looked the way the contract is structured, you’d see right away that he will be traded before year 3 kicks in.

The best friends, Hughes and Tkachuk, roasted their teams with the overpayments they got.

Yikes on these aavs

Same with Suzuki.

But hey, hopefully they all drastically improve and can be worth it.
