Wilson while in Seattle his usage of the TE was limited. Most of the stuff was short to the outside of the tackle box or the boundary. Not as many passes that were what Smith threw to Parkinson.
Wilson will throw to the outside while in the pocket. He goes to the middle on quick slants or if the pocket opens up and he ha a clear view of the field. Can’t really change that given his height. Vision will be obstructed by the linemen in front.

Good info, thanks.

Wish they had brought in an actual fullback once they got rid of that moron Shurmur.

Absolutely terrible.
A week 1 disaster. Lots of poop and clear indicators this team was not ready for a real game. The defense in the first half missing tackles and committing penalties like this is still practice. The offense not able to score in the redzone. A running back having the most receptions of the bunch. And of course the last few minutes of horrid clock mismanagement and decision to kick a 64 field goal.

Thankfully this is week 1 where a lot of nutty stuff happens. I hope Hackett learns from this mess quickly or if he will be like Fangio and not bother.

Except that they needed this game if they wanted to at least get a Wild Card spot. The AFC is no joke this year, it's gonna be a dog fight, and our division is the strongest of them. Seattle was supposed to be a layup, and they blew it big time. The season could very well be over right now by not getting that win. If you let Geno Smith torch you, what's Mahomes, Herbert, and Carr gonna do? Blood bath...

Yeah if we don’t win against the Texans the season is basically over. The chances we end with a decent record with the back half of our schedule is damn near impossible.

I’m curious to see if Denver can or will scheme up more plays to the middle of the field that are on schedule. I don’t think they will just cause of Wilson’s height. Too difficult for him to read the coverage on a 5 to 7 step drop and hit a receiver over the middle 10-12 yards past the LOS. But they should do more crossers as Russ can see those once the receiver hits the Tackle box area.

As ridiculous as it was, its just one stupid bad game. They along with the Bengals lost games they had zero business losing. If that happens often then obviously there are issues but the lack of preseason for most starters and all the new things they had to break in made it a tough game that they almost overcame. The second half other than the turnovers and coaching were domination for the Broncos. I think they can get well with the Texans and then start to roll.

Can focus on the fumbles but Russ could have had a couple of picks in the game that the safeties dropped. Plus they got a red zone stand by their D when they were driving on their second possession.

Poor red zone offence. Something they need to clean up.

Fun rumors starting to boil to the surface about Frost's tumultuous tenure at NU:
-Did not make regular recruiting calls.
-Spent so much time with his friends playing with the golf simulator on campus the golf team complained.
-Regularly late to practice.
-Reportedly canceled a recruiting meeting over BBQ with the highly-touted Raiola brothers because he was too drunk.

No idea how much of this was true, but rumors like this don't usually come out of nowhere.

Sure punches a lot of holes in the "He wanted to win more than anyone there" narrative. For a guy who reportedly worked his whole life for the gig, he apparently didn't really treat it like a dream job.

All of that sounds in character for him. He's never really been known as a really hard worker or a guy who makes the best decisions.

If those are true though, why the F didn't Nebraska just can him last year with this stuff... just wasted a season....

I think it was mostly a financial decision--they convinced him to rework his contract this summer so that a buyout THIS year would not hurt as much. Even so, they didn't even wait until October 1st when the buyout would drop from $15 million to $7.5 million.

What's sad is that they gave him that contract extension when he didn't do a single goddamned thing to earn it. At some point you just have to take the full egg on the face and admit failure. Nebraska waited way too long to finally admit defeat, which isn't all that surprising given the optics and egos involved in college sports.

It would be just one stupid bad game IF there was any room for error. Playing in this division, this conference, there is no room for error. Dropping that one is a killer, especially against a Seattle team that has Geno Smith as their starter.

Sure if you want to think of it that way but talent and better execution can get those tougher wins on the board. Besides let's calm down about the potential of this team. Playoffs are a possibility but I wasn't buying title contender in year one of new QB and coaches. So yeah id expect some disappointments along the way.

I'm under no delusions that we were gonna be a title contender, I was just hoping for a Wild Card spot.

Just seems like a short sighted financial decision. They only saved a million since they couldn't wait until October, but (likely) lost some revenue for a lost season now that could quite easily surpass what they saved. Plus the whole PR aspect of it...

So Justin Simmons is out for 4 weeks - well at least he didn't get injured in the pre-season... :sarcasm:

They saved a little money on it, but also, they waited until there would be absolutely NO fan blowback on the decision. There isn't a single Husker fan who thinks the firing was unjustified or that it came too soon.

Hell of a way to run a program, but no one can say Frost didn't have every single opportunity to turn the program around. I guess we'll see what the Iowa State guy does. Unlikely he could do any worse.

I read that Texas rolled out the red carpet and spent 280k to recruit Arch Manning (Peyton's Nephew). That made me wonder what CU spent on recruiting. I'm guessing 200 dollars and a trip to Jack In The Box to some people they found at the bus station...

Trust me, they spent money when Mel Tucker was here. Not to the extent of other elite programs of course

Does it really matter that much? If they spent a lot more on it maybe they are a 3-4 win team instead of a 1-2 win team this year. Colorado HS football is just shockingly bad as a pipeline these days for a state with the population we have. CSU and CU are a mess because of it, they can't even get excited about trying to lock down the state with it so bad. I don't know what they can do to get things on track but as much as being in the Pac12 should have worked out, it just hasn't and its time to go back to the Big 12. Even without Nebraska and Oklahoma its still got more relevant rivalries in areas CU can at least compete in recruiting with. Go to a California kid and Boulder is nice, but not that special. Go to a kid in rural Oklahoma or Missouri and Boulder looks great. Once the Pac12 mess is unraveled over the next 6-9 months I think clarity will return and we'll see the end of the Pac12 as a football conference at least.

Could it get any worse for college football in Colorado? CU and CSU get destroyed and Air Force loses to Wyoming. Is CU going to go 0-12?
