Fun to think about but what's the point of such a team? Not only different eras and different types of athletes, but also no role players which are really how you put a champion together. I mean end of a close game does MJ or LBJ get the ball? Or maybe you just give it to Shaq and he gets an easy basket. It's just pointless, you're picking out the best to play the game throughout all the eras, no more. I think we're seeing that with the Mavs and this trade, Luka can make crazy shots and good passes, but I think the Mavs are betting that their big men are the secret to getting through the West. And for all the focus on what a great passer Joker is, he too tends to just put the team on his back and score a lot in crucial playoff games.

Dallas GM had completely lost the plot. Surely at least one other team would’ve offered a better package for Doncic
Agree on this but not sure there was a better move to make. He probably gets more picks but the Mavs are in a bad spot timing wise. Probably need a couple years to hit a new peak with Luka, but by then the Spurs could be relevant while the Thunder, Grizz and Rockets will certainly be tough outs.

I think this was a screw it, we can contend right now with AD and then blow it up in 3-4 years or build around the young guys. Sure it's crazy to bet on AD being healthy but Luka was like Mikko in getting super lazy and pretty much ignoring D. If Luka really wants the title he's going to have to show up big time on that side of the ball

Wait, what!? Why the f*** would tbe Mavs do that!?!?!?
Luka is a fat, toxic, lazy idiot and they don't want to give him a supermax contract. He's 270 pounds right now. He eats cheeseburgers and drinks beer in public hours before NBA games. The man sincerely only cares about his own statlines and nothing else.

Don't get me wrong, this is still horrible asset management. He's still young, he's absurdly talented, and AD is damaged goods. But that's the long and short of it.

NHL thought they were in the big leagues with two massive superstar trades in a week. And then NBA went "hold my beer, watch this"

i think I’m not as high on Luka as everyone else. The guy can never stay in shape. What’s he going to look like when he’s 30? His body is already busting down because he can’t stop eating.

I do think it’s hilarious though that LeBron is going to have to play with a white dude that’s equally as good as him at this point. That’s the best part of the trade for me. - “ok bron you’re gonna dribble around the defense until there’s 3 seconds left and then pass it to the white fat kid who’s going to try to nail down the winning shot for us. Ready? Go!”

Can someone put this in hockey terms?

I honestly don't think there's an adequate hockey comparison. If you take a past their prime, 32 year old two way player who is elite defensively but is injury prone and inconsistent, whose reputation has been tanked by a single one on one matchup with another player in recent seasons, and he gets traded for a 25 year old offensive phenom who is ahead of his prime and is the face of the franchise, but doesn't play much defense...

There are reasons to be as high on Luka as a lot of people are, but at the very least if you're going to trade him, you should get a boatload of 1st round picks and/or young and upcoming prospects. The package they traded him for is so bad it honestly makes me think something else has to be going on, like the GM is being blackmailed or something.

That was glorious.

Luka Doncic "out of shape" has taken the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals and Western Conference Finals in 2 of the last 3 seasons when that team had no business getting there.

Now you've just given him legitimate motivation on top of his natural abilities.

This is going to be a trade the Mavericks rue for years and years.

Can someone put this in hockey terms?
IMO this is like the Avs trading Cale Makar for Artemi Panarin.

Mavs called Luka a fatass on his way out, he's going to be so motivated to prove them wrong and he's going to get on that LeBron "training" program.

The funniest thing is the Mavs didn't offer him elsewhere for a bidding war, OKC would've given them J-Dub/Chet + shitload of picks they had.

People have been calling Luka a fatass his whole career and it hasn't motivated him yet.

And he even played for Slovenia in the summer. He had to put in extra effort to get himself out of shape before the season started.
