I mean, Tovar and McMahon appear to be developing just fine, I don't see anything alarming with the handling of Rodgers or other young players either. I don't watch the Rox closely so I don't know for sure but to me, Black is waaaaaay down the list of problems currently plaguing the Rockies.

Of the four major league sports in North America, coaching appears to have the least impact in baseball. Sure, a phenomenal manager like Bruce Bochy can have a huge impact, as can a truly awful one like Mike Matheny. But overall I don't see anything that's convincing me that Bud Black is actively holding the franchise back (we all know who is).

Not just that, the whole non-guaranteed contracts thing all but destroys trade value of a player.

And the nature of the NBA and basketball in general as well. Just one superstar player can make all the difference, and the soft cap makes player acquisition a lot easier than other leagues.

I'd add with the NFL, you're looking at grabbing a lot of day 1 starters with the 2nd-4th round picks. Frequently at positions like RB and WR, you can find elite talent at that point in the draft too.

He didn't play their catcher of the future from September 12th to 26th, Toglia didn't get consistent ABs until June, and was atrocious managing the bullpen.

The roster isn't good, but overlooking him to say ownership is the main reason for them being bad is idiotic. He's high on the list why the team sucks. For a guy with a pitching background, is he doing any development on that side? Feltner is the only one where I can say he's much better in the big leagues than he was in the minors.

I think it does mean a lot though, what are you telling your players when you get to keep your job after back to back 100 loss seasons? Read it on reddit that Black is the 1st manager since Connie Mack(who owned the team) to have sub .460 seasons in 6 straight years. They need a fresh voice but Monforts are too stubborn to do anything other than their way.

Like Skip Schumaker is there, beg him to take the job.

I’ve maintained that Monfort is not the worst owner in sports, he’s just the laziest. And this decision is right in line with that. It’s like he just can’t be bothered to have Schmidt engage in a proper search for a manager.

This is the same organization that lets pending FAs walk instead of trading them at the deadline because they don’t have enough personnel and phones to cover the calls.

That’s my main point of frustration because no matter how many good decisions the Rox make, it’s only a matter of time before the owner f***s everything up.
