MLB Network insider Jon Morosi is expecting the Cubs to land one of the marquee free-agent shortstops this offseason: Trea Turner, Carlos Correa, Xander Bogaerts or Dansby Swanson.
"I will be very surprised if the Cubs do not add one of the Big Four superstar shortstops who are available in free agency this winter," Morosi said Tuesday. "This is now their time."
Sounds like this is just a guess from him.

I will be very surprised if they do...

I'm expecting a "significant offer" that just so happens to conviently be comfortably south of what the various big FAs sign for, allowing an "aw shucks, we tried" mantra this offseason.

NBA/NHL/NFL FA is fun as hell.

Meanwhile...

MLB sees the other leagues with fun and exciting FA and decides to do the opposite and go slow and boring.

Ricketts might be in the market for Manchester United (per ESPN) so I would not hold my hopes up on them spending this year if that is the case.

They were in the market for Chelsea and got told to pound sand I thought. Has anything changed since then?
Chelsea was sold to someone else. Not sure what happened l there as I am not a fan of theirs. Manchester United is getting shopped and ESPN said Ricketts might be in on them. Along with investment firms, etc. Chelsea had over 20 offers and MU should hit similar numbers and they are guessing 5mm pounds for the sale.

The Ricketts family having a host of troubling opinions was the reason behind it unless I totally didn't understand the situation.

I am just relaying what ESPN printed. I honestly doubt they can afford them. Probably some Middle East country or something like that. Fenway is also selling Liverpool so there are options for them and Liverpool would be less expensive. As a MU fan getting rid of the current owners who have destroyed that team and used it as a bank while not up keeping the stadium, etc. would be great to see.

The option is the valuation of clubs now is as high as it will be for some time. With interest rates, world economy, etc. So probably the best time to sell.

Wow Iran just beat Wales 2-0. If USA beats Iran, USA pretty much goes to the knock out stages regardless of the game against England today.

Gotta love being in the catbird seat despite having no wins and only scoring one goal total. Soccer is weird.

Apparently Jesse Rogers said it's a done deal and should be announced any day now on ESPN radio today.
I tentatively like this move, assuming it goes through. I say that, because we don't know for sure if this is as simple as replacing Cueto in the rotation or if there's more. I know there's been rumblings that Giolito might be on his way out? My top preference would have been Quintana, but his price is probably higher.

A little cheaper than I expected. Right up Jerry's alley. So that gives them about 12 mil between RF and 2B then? Assuming the 180 mil # that's been going around is accurate.
I’m assuming that’s accurate my guess is they dump a bigger contract through trade to open more funding
