I understand the Dodgers are bringing Charlie Hough back from retirement to give Roberts one more pitching option. Roberts thinking is having Hough's knuckleball coming out of the pen will throw off the timing of opposing hitters.

This doesnt really make sense. Dustin May has 26 career games, 14 of which are starts. He’s familiar with coming out of the pen (and has mostly been really good at it). 20/14 for Gonsolin (his first two years in the minors were strictly in relief). Either way - both have started and come in relief over the CS and WS, and it hasnt made a difference in their performances.
Well, this year, May's two relief appearances in the regular season were 5.1 and 4 innings. And Gonsolin's lone relief appearance this year was 5 innings.
And the guys knew going into the games exactly what the plan was.
During the playoffs, they've stated that they didn't know how they were going to be used but that they will be ready.
I understand that there are a lot of unknowns in the playoffs.
But it's not all about the numbers or analytics. It's also important to keep guys in their comfort zone as much as possible.

And I don't put blame entirely on Roberts as I think these types of decisions, setting the rotation, the use of openers and such, is made as a group by the front office and coaching staff.
I only blame Roberts when things go wrong with bullpen usage/timing and the lack of small ball:sarcasm:.
Although Mookie all by himself has alleviated the second problem.

Mookie changed the entire franchise. The Dodgers had a lot of weapons, but Mookie feels like the glue of the team. It's insane how good he is.

There's nothing on a baseball field that he can't do. And he's a great clubhouse influence, too.

Walker did everything I hoped he would. Just f***in shut them down. They were frustrated in the very first inning. Dodgers got him run support and the bullpen held on. Marvelous. Two more to go with Urias pitching tomorrow and Kershaw back on the mound on Sunday. There's no better opportunity to run the Rays out of town.

Walker Buehler is a stone cold killer.

Always liked him anyway but knew he'd thrive in this situation, dude is just all guts and swagger and borderline arrogance to go with the tools: Understanding Walker Buehler's words of weapon and his 'very laughable' confidence

"In the summer of 2016, the new crop of draft picks arrived to play in the Arizona rookie league, and first-rounder Gavin Lux settled into a locker near Buehler’s.

“Dude, I heard you’re nasty,” Lux told him. “I want to face you in a live BP.”

Lux maintains he intended to be complimentary, but Buehler interpreted it as a challenge. “He thought I was talking shit,” Lux said. As the two talented prospects discussed it again and again, the prospective matchup took on a life of its own. Finally, the next spring, they arranged a tussle. In his first-ever session of live batting practice, Lux stepped in against Buehler, who was ramping up for his first full professional season.

The atmosphere was tense, particularly for spring training. Buehler pumped fastballs approaching 100 mph. In his first at-bat, Lux could only tap a weak comebacker.

“Lux is like, ‘Congrats, I don’t care,’ and Buehler is mother****ing him,” recalled Ferguson. “And everybody’s like, ‘Walker, this kid’s a (teenager). You played in the College World Series. What do you get out of this?’”

In Lux’s second at-bat, the count reached 2-2 before staffers pulled Buehler, his pitch count reached. They have yet to resolve the matter."

Kills me every time

Huh. Well, I can see why you guys are living in agony regarding the Dodgers. I guess I should walk away now before feeling disappointed in them.
