Dodgers are going out swinging..
1-2-3 strikes you're out...

The better team won. The homerun or nothing build proves again to be the wrong decision come playoff time. I haven't looked but I dont think a single dodger hit .300 in the playoffs, with most being in the .100s. It's really fun to watch in the regular season, but sucks in the post season. Now I know how shark fans feel.

Baseball is turning into European soccer.

25 man rosters:

The top two spenders were in the WS, with the highest payroll in the league winning it.
The top 5 payrolls went to the playoffs, and 7 of the top 9. The top 3 payrolls made the LCS.
16 teams were over .500 this year, 12 of those teams were in the top 16 in payroll. Two of those teams, LAA and WSH were just under at .494. The only top half in payroll teams to be under .500 were SF (ha) and TEX.

It's fun if you are a fan of a big spender, but not so fun if you aren't. Attendance was down quite a bit this year, the first time it's been under 70M since 2003. There are other factors for that, but the payroll gap is having an effect.

No one should talk shit about our payroll when the the top 2 highest paid players on the roster are homegrown.

The MLB just did away for the revenue sharing leeches as well. The A's lost about 30 million coming up due to revenue check getting cut.

It's just two bad matchups in a row for the Dodgers. It was never an easy World Series task unlike the Giants and their 3 rings. Dodgers had to face the two best AL teams and they both won over 100 games. The Giants faced a 91-win Rangers team, an 88-win Tigers team, and an 88-win Royals team.

Can we face an easier AL opponent for once?

I honestly feel bad for Kershaw. It's not like he dogs it out there. Guy really tries.

We won't be back soon, so maybe.

Three teams won over 100 games this year in the AL, so there weren't many easier options. Last year was the missed opportunity when the Dodgers faced a team that they were better than. This year they didn't have a chance in hell.

That's been baseball for a long time. Every now and then you get a Royals pop up, or the Pirates are decent for a year, then go away just as quickly as they came, but the big spending teams will come back year after year.

There is an argument to be made that no cap and pay or get out is the way to go, but there's also an argument for a cap and giving the smaller markets an opportunity if you're going to have teams in those places.

I'm not sure what's worse, having a coach in Stevens that just stands around looking confused while he tries to figure out how to count to potato, or a manager like Roberts who can't stop screwing around when things are going well, and makes the sames mistakes repeatedly.

Man how long until the Dodgers finally win again? Another 30+ years?

Shouldn’t be long, but the next 3 days are critical with Kershaw and Roberts future being decided.

Friedman could easily get 45 million or more off the books for 2019 and have more than enough ammo to reload this team. If he does it right, this could be a great team.

However, I get the feeling Friedman/Kasten will keep Kershaw/Roberts and roll out a worse team with a bloated payroll again. Not all that different from the Kings actually.

Baez and Puig were our best playoff performers. Who woulda thunk?

They say that you can never have too much depth and it's a good problem to have. But Roberts fell in love with it. He started platooning players that should be starting regardless of the opposing starting pitcher. But Cody Bellinger's regression from a 40-home run hitter to 25 was part to blame. He needs to be back to his 2017 self. I don't know if playing multiple positions had anything to do with it. But either stick to CF or 1B.

And Kershaw's got to find a way to get his 94-96-MPH fastball back. An offseason special workout might just be what he will need. And no, it ain't roids.

I'm not really for a cap in baseball so much, it's a major sport and even smaller markets should be able to turn a profit by trying. Still, it's limited in that it's really only a major sport in the Americas and Japan.

What keeps Soccer so exciting and relevant without a cap is are the other events that go on. In addition to league play, you have domestic cups, Champion's League, Europa League, and so on. Some, like the FA cup in England, are open to teams from nearly all levels, over 700+ across England where some teams in the bottom leagues get matches against teams from the top leagues. The geography and economics are different because of the proximity of a bunch of developed countries, but it would be cool if there were more things like this in baseball. The season could be shortened keeping interest higher with the same revenue coming from other competitions.
