Comeback complete. Amorim gets to enjoy the going away party. I guess that was fun to watch.
 
Celtic won the League cup on PKs over Rangers. A bit odlly the 5th and final PK taker for Rangers was keeper Butland, who scored with a well taken kick.

Match had an intense ending in normal time, as Celtic took a 3-2 lead in added time, only for Rangers to equalize just a minute later.

Watching Velez play on quite possibly the worst pitch I’ve ever seen. It’s a farmers field , I can hear Xavi’s tears drop.

Montoro is not letting it get to him has he’s dribbling and providing some sweeet passes

So after about 15 years of having a regular season + playoffs, the Belgian League is going back to a regular season only starting in '26-'27

The playoff system had never been fully accepted by everyone, for plenty of reasons. The amount of games (40 in total, too much), having the points gained in the reg. season split in half to start the playoffs to basically create an artificial title race, not knowing what do with teams finishing below the top 6 (only the top 6 qualified for the Champions playoffs) they either had their season ended in March, or they had to play their own playoff which nobody watched since there was nothing at stake.

In 2009 we went to a playoff system and brought the number of top division teams down from 18 to 16 because "this will make Belgian clubs do better in Europe!" and "we are a small country, we can't have 18 clubs in our top division" and over these past 15 years almost every year there have been discussions and propositions to change the format, from going down to 14 teams, to implementing a (current) Champions League style model, .... and in the end we are just going back to a pre-2009 league with 18 teams and no playoffs and a 'normal' 34 game regular season :dunno:

We copied that exact system in Romania and are still doing it haha
 
Don't like playoffs in football, so that's the good part. Not sure if 18 teams is too much, though. What are they going to do with 2nd division, it's been pretty small in size. Are they expanding it with more teams joining in?

Nah 2nd division is pretty much going to stay as it is, they might add a couple more U23 squads of the big clubs (right now there are 4).
The problem isn't the number of teams though. Basically the 2nd division is (and has been for a while now) a financial hellhole and almost every team has a foreign owner who's using the team to park foreign players before "transferring" them to another foreign club (for example Lommel who are in the City group) and it's really been detrimental for young Belgian prospects. Your 2nd (and lower) division should be a breeding ground for homegrown talent and right now it's the complete opposite.

The big wins keep coming for Barry Ferguson's Rangers, after eliminating Fenerbahce to qualify for the quarter finals of EL, now they beat Celtic away 3-2. The league is gone but these kind of victories are still sweet. Only watched the last 30 minutes, but it was quality old school bone bruising footy haha
 
Was gonna post this in the MLS thread but I'll do it here because its USL related, but all reports indicate they will integrate promotion/relegation in their pyramid in 2028 when they launch USL Division 1; it will be a three league system (USL Division 1; USL Championship; USL League 1).

Football club 'unaware' of star's conviction for dealing cocaine

Welsh top-flight outfit Barry Town have claimed they were unaware of midfielder Evan Press' conviction for dealing cocaine until 30 minutes after his sentencing.

The midfielder was jailed for two years and six months at Newport Crown Court after pleading guilty to being concerned in the supply of Class A drug cocaine.

Press has played every game this season for the semi-professional side Barry and has worn the captain's armband on 19 occasions. The 24-year-old has been a key player for the outfit, having scored 11 goals in 187 appearances since his arrival in 2018.

'Being brutally honest we only heard about this on the day he was sentenced. He had never told us,' a club spokesperson told WalesOnline. 'We were unaware until half an hour after the sentencing on March 19 when we were contacted by a family member."
