Yeah that didn’t make any sense. I have no clue how you get goalie interference AFTER the ball is in the net and then get jumped and called for instigating. The resulting 5 minute penalty kill hurt because it swung momentum and allowed Albany to score a goal.Nanticoke goes airborne to score the tying goal, crashes into the goalie—not with any ill intent, just a result of trying to score—gets jumped by an Albany player afterwards, fights him after getting held, cross checked, dragged to the ground after the whistle, etc.
and the result, somehow, is Nanticoke getting ejected, the Bandits getting a 5 minute penalty, and Albany not being penalized at all.
WTF refs
Edit: apparently Nanticoke got 2 majors on the play which is an automatic ejection. Still confused as to how the Albany player who started shit didn’t get penalized
I figured they doubled him up on roughing and fighting, but that’s even worse. Especially considering he didn’t contact the goalie until after he scored and it clearly had no impact on the play.Yeah that didn’t make any sense. Sabremike: Thanks for the photos.
And do I have a story to tell about New York....
In January of this year(last season), I made the roadie to New York to support the Bandits(and added an Islanders game as well(two side notes: 1. The Isles new arena is BEAUTIFUL. 2. You MUST try The Islander chicken sandwich(crispy chicken topped with Buffalo sauce, blue cheese and cream cheese served on a blue and orange bagel). Little did I know at the time that a Nor'easter was heading up the coast with NYC et al in it sights. So I moved my flight to Friday afternoon and got in before the fun began. NYC got hit with 8-12 inches of snow, but the streets were pretty much clear by early afternoon. However, it did postpone the game to Sunday afternoon. I managed to get to Nassau for the game(using the subway, LIRR and Nassau's bus system). Good game which Buffalo won in OT...then use different buses to get to UBS Arena in time for the Isles' game. Overall, a hectic but fun day.
Shame, too, that the Riptide have such poor attendance. They have the nucleus of a team that can be good in a couple of seasons, and their GM/head coach combo isn't too bad either. (Said GM, Jim Veltman, is someone BOTH Buffalo and Toronto fans know very well.)
Atlanta traffic is the absolute worst. The convergence of 3 (I think) Interstates near downtown, the inner and outer rings around the city. I used to have to drive down there on weekends (from Charlotte). Friday night was always a bust. I simply knew I'd spend it in traffic, no matter when I left.Arrived in Atlanta. It is about a 40 minute walk to the arena, or a 5 minute drive. Taking a moment to decompress from love traffic… it never will make me want to move here.
