This is some drone footage down near Stump Pass State Park on Manasota Key and then on the other side of Lemon Bay in Grove City (where my old chiropractor used to be):

Single story homes getting destroyed. More modern homes on stilts surviving the carnage. Eventually over time most seaside architecture will adapt to the new realities of climate change and evolving storm strength, and that should lessen the sting of catastrophic hurricane damage.

But I'm thankful the worst cast scenarios --in spite of the widespread damage -- being tossed around before the storm failed to come to fruition.

Interestingly, enough, one of the discussions here in Florida is that the current building codes are already behind the potential severity of the weather and the gap is widening.

Being familiar with him, it's everything he owns in the world. He was unhoused and now lives on that boat, everything he has in the world is there and he is not comfortable abandoning it because he felt he would never be able to return. He isn't alone in the idea that - plenty of people road out the storm because what they own is what they have. And with the way the state bent over backwards to the insurance companies two years ago, a bunch of people are going without storm insurance now because it's become too expensive.

So it’s been an interesting week.

I went to see the hand specialist about the cluster of nerves that are growing in one of the breaks, and at some point I broke that again and freed them. So I get to avoid the hand surgery for now.

As far as that lady I was seeing, she’s made me dinner a couple of nights this week. And the other morning, she received a call from the police at 5am for a wellness check. Her ex showed up at his aunt’s house rambling something about her and her daughter while covered in blood, so out of concern she called the police thinking the worst. So they took him to a psych ward for an evaluation.

Then last night he ran away from there and showed up inside her apartment, violating a court order, and terrorized both her and the daughter. The daughter flipped out and ran out the door to one of her friends. The girl I’m seeing was stuck there until he got distracted and then she ran out the door and came and stayed at my place, because she knew it was safe. He ended up barricading inside her apartment, and it took me an hour to convince him to finally leave. He’s now going to get picked up by the cops, brought back to he hospital, and being put under a do not release order.

That's nuts dude, stay safe no idea what somebody in that mental state can pull off. Glad everyone is safe.

God, I shudder to think how much home insurance, especially with storm coverage, costs in Florida.

I live in rural Texas, not near anything, and my insurance keeps jumping every year for the past 3 or 4 years. It's crazy.

It sucks because I’m friends with the guy, and he’s suffered a brain injury before. But he’s also schizophrenic and is a crack addict. And he lost access to his daughter because he ended up pulling a gun out one night when he had her. So since then he’s completely gone off the deep end.

Lawd I hate living in a swing state, heck, THE swing state. I was here for 2016 and that sucked. I was in Florida for 2020, so that was something, it wasn't near the level PA was in either. 2024 has ramped up even more. The texts, the calls, the constant ads.

To think with all the problems in this country that could be solved with more funding that we spending a mountain on political ads is just absurd.

They should tax political ad spend at a 25% rate and have all that money go towards a War on Poverty.
