Which numbers would you recommend not placing odds bets on? 6 and 8 are the obvious choices to place odds on, but is 4 and 10 worth it as they are the least frequently rolled numbers?

Place odds on every number you have an opportunity to. It's the only time that you have solid odds on the casino.

If you are really looking to have fun and enjoy side bets, make sure to play the Small, Tall & All or nothing at all. The house edge is pretty sizable however, they pay off big when they hit. IIRC the Small/Tall are 35:1 and the All or nothing is 175:1. I was fortunate enough to have $3 on each when I was in Biloxi at the end of May. Even $1 on each will yield a $240 pay out.

If you don't like side bets, want to stick with a more conventional wisdom, and are focused on the math of winning... House edge on 4 & 10 is like 7%.

If you are like me and only go once in a while, then I wouldn't worry about the house edge on the Small/Tall/All bets because even though the house edge is roughly 7.97%, it is great when you hit them.

Remember, you have to do it at the beginning of the roll. Once one of those points have been rolled you cannot do the bet. Every time a 7 is rolled it starts over.

Be very careful of slots and understand exactly what it is you are playing. Penny slots are very popular. Some of those penny machines can run upwards of $9 a pull if you don't know what you are playing. Be cognizant of how much the minimum play is on that slot and how many lines you are playing. Your best strategy is usually to do the minimum bet along with max lines.

Your best odds in the casino is actually in baccarat. It is damn near 50% ( I think the house edge is somewhere around .5%). It is an expensive game though usually starting with a $15-$25 bet per hand that can go upwards of $100 a bet at night time on the weekends. I watched a friend of mine walk away with damn near $4k after starting with $100. He kept betting the player and I believe the banker only won 3 times during the shoe.

Stay far away from 3 card poker, pai gow fortune, etc. They are expensive, suck you in and they are not games for the average casino goer. They seem innocent but some require more money to stay in as the hand goes on.

If you play roulette, be aware of line bets, corner bets, etc. The person at the table will explain those to you. Make sure you ask about them as they increase your overall odds and take away the house % if you know how to play them. I don't recall the pay out on each one of those.

Overall, if you are unsure, you lose nothing by asking the person at the table. They want you to win. When people get drunk and win, they tip the dealers. Ask them. Especially if you decide to play blackjack. Never split 4's, 5's or faces. Never hit anything over an 11 if the dealer is showing 13-16. If you don't feel comfortable doing a full double down, you can double for less (half your bet). Double on 10/11 vs 13-16. Most casinos will let you take a basic strategy card and have it at the table with you. Never, ever, ever take insurance. Also try not to get carried away with double downs/splits if the dealer is showing a 2. Most people think it is a bad card for the dealer because it is a "bust card" but in reality every dealer and knowledgable player will tell you that a face up 2 might as well be a dealers joker.

I'm huge on blackjack.

Tips I have about that at a casino... don't do it unless you can stomach kicking people out of your table.

Sure, a lot of people are under the impression that the game is pure luck, and it is the prerogative of any individual to hit/not hit according to their personality. And I can personally attest that that mentality is a crock of ****.

Blackjack is a table sport. Meaning, everyone is in it together, if done correctly.

The key to being successful at black jack... minus being some sort of prodigious card counter... is patience. On the off chance, there is always the low probability that someone can go in and catch a hot streak at the beginning of their time at the table. There's also the nearly impossible "beginners luck" that allows people to believe that playing carelessly and independently from how those around them play is acceptable.

There are rules to how to eventually turn profitable at 21... but there are a couple of essentials.

The first essential, is playing with people that play the same way that you do (and i'm taking as a given that the playing style is the one that you're alluding to). The whole table loses or wins together.

This means that if everyone plays the "proper" way: Dealer showing a face card 6 and under, you stay holding cards worth 12 and over. Dealer showing face card 7 and over, you hit until you have 17 or over or busting. (The basics of that playing style)... that everyone's fate should be pretty similar.

After the entire table is playing that way, the second essential is patience. The vast likelihood is that you're going to enter in a shoe and stay even, or maybe even start on a losing streak. I think blackjack can be an all day affair, if it has to be. There needs to be a time commitment under the likely event that you go under. There also needs to be patience in terms of discipline. I can't begin to tell you how often i've seen friends or just random people at tables lose big because they couldn't be disciplined with their betting. People lose money and their first reaction is to double down to try and win it all back at one time. That's usually how some people are suddenly down $500 or more within half an hour.

You play minimum bets when the shoe is screwing everyone. You start doubling, tripling, or increasing to whatever amount you are comfortable with, when you start realizing the shoe is screwing the dealer consistently.

Which leads me back to my first point. The likelihood is that you're not going to go on a casino vacation with 5 buddies, all of whom are invested into riding out the good and bad stretches of black jack. When you sit down at a table, you better make sure that the people who are playing are playing sensibly.

There have been times that I've gone to a casino, not really paid attention to the people playing around me, and they've lost me hundreds of dollars. It really doesn't matter how you're playing if those around you are hitting when they have 18 (for example) and stealing the 10 you needed right after them.

Either have to kick them off the table so they can go lose money doing stupid **** on other games or unfortunately, if they give you "it's my money and I can hit whenever I want" speech, move up to a table with a higher minimum so you can avoid having you shoes and momentum tainted.

Blackjack is very much a game of momentum. Have to ride out the losing streaks and capitalize on the hot streaks when they come.

Not going to make like 25k on one hand, but you can make north of 1-5k within a day, if you play with the right people, stay disciplined with your betting during cold streaks, and invest some time into it.

I've had friends who have gone to AC or Vegas for a weekend and won like 15k. I've also had other ones who have come back down 3k when they haven't done those essentials.

I'll never forget one of my friends coming back from a trip to AC. I think he was up 5k and was calling it quits. Was on a hot streak and put like 1k on a hand. He got double 8's. He split, meaning he had to put down an additional thousand dollars... at which point he pulled another 8 and split again. At this point he has 3 thousand dollars of his 5 on the table. He pulled a two on the first 8 and doubled down. Pulled a 3 on the next 8 and doubled down there. All 5 k was on the table. Miraculously, the dealer busted and his overall winnings went to 10k. Said the feeling of adrenaline was like nothing he had ever felt.

Those stories are once in a lifetime. Waiting for mine. :naughty:

PM me the ways in more detail. I've dabbled in casino gambling and have done average (for a 19 year old in another country that is)

Yes. am fan of gambling. pls.

If you're familiar with the most common method, the one I mentioned, i'd recommend sticking with that one. I can find a good site that explains when to hit, and probabilities of hands, etc. if you're not all too comfortable playing that way.

I would not suggest playing the "European" way. It is radical and from what I remember when someone explained it to me, very aggressive.

I can look for that method, too, if you like.

Let me know and I'll PM you.

Like everything. I'm a newb at blackjack but have been getting lucky or hot I guess. When I've played I usually act aggressive and stuff like that to scare people

Hey guys,

I hope I am posting in the right OT thread but I figured locals could give me a few pointers to a fellow hockey fan from Montreal!

I'm planning a roadtrip to NYC soon where I'd drive there while staying at a hotel in Irving, NJ for 2 nights. So is there somewhere (like a small local mall) that's fairly close to a subway station where I can park my car for free or for cheap during daytime till 9 PM? I am planning on getting up early every day and driving from the Irving hotel to somewhere with accessible parking in Jersey so I can visit Manhattan via the subway.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance!! :handclap:

Nyrvana is correct. I am not saying don't play 4 & 10. All I am saying is that different people prefer different things. Some folks just don't want to play 4&10 because the house edge is larger. I personally always play 4 & 10.

You are absolutely correct. Every one has a to be in it together. You can't actually kick people off the table. No casino will allow that. However, I would recommend leaving the table if someone is playing ridiculously stupid (like hitting on 18 vs the dealer showing an 8) and it DOES happen.

Second bolded, you don't double your bet until you win 3 in a row as a rule of thumb. You can do it after 2 but most don't.

Additionally, it is not always a 100% hit on 16 if the dealer has a 7 showing. I have come across many successful players who consistently stand on 16 when a 7 is showing. Whatever you decide to do, just be consistent with it.

I've managed to boot several people. Not that I go to casinos often at all, but it ALWAYS happens to me. Every time. Usually, if there is one outlier, the entire table assists. If you happen to be at a table before anyone else and have a personal shoe going on, this is much harder to do.

The 2nd bolded, I think I'm even more conservative than that. I give it a good third of a shoe before I start dramatically increasing my wager.

Perhaps it is just my luck, although I've noticed it happens nearly every time I play black jack, but momentum in it is a real thing. I go 4-5 shoes either holding consistent or losing, and then there are 2-3 good shoes that you have to capitalize on in a row. I usually don't mind giving up half a shoe to make sure I think momentum is consistently going in my favor. If i'm on a $25 dollar table, this usually means i'll start wagering anywhere from $50-$100 a hand. God there was once where I was down like $900 dollars to the house and I felt sick to my stomach. I probably had 20 bad shoes of me consistently losing at the minimum ever shoe, bleeding out. Eventually, the momentum swung and I broke even within like 2 shoes. A guy in my table had just walked in at the start of that hot streak. Once I broke even I got out, as I had had enough adrenaline for one day, but the man I was alluding to was up on the house by like 1.9k. All about momentum and taking advantage of when you go in.

As I said, I've had friends who go in and come out w/ 15k in profits in like a day and a half of playing it. All about sticking till momentum starts hitting for you.

As for the last part, funny you mentioned it, I mentioned it to SilenceofthePlams last night.

12 and 16 are the trouble cards. I'm under the impression that hitting/staying on 12 when the dealer is showing a face card under 7 is up to the individual. Same with staying on 16 when the dealer is showing 7 or above.

I'm also always against taking insurance. I'm not trying to hedge my hand on a side bet. It's only a means for them to get even more money out of you in one hand.

Most people stick on 12 if the dealer is showing 3-6. A 2 is a different story. A 2 is a the dealers joker. You hit 12 against a 2 all day.

I don't think that it's as black and white as the book says.

I've always struggled with 12. Don't hit and the deal pulls 21 on the next card. Hit and I land a jack and I bust.
