I'm scared ****less when I'm in a car. Flying is thousands of times safer than driving. Your in the air with way less obstacles and barring an explosion, electrical or mechanical errors aren't a big deal because the plane can still glide around with time to look for a safe landing spot. Just fly with an American airline and not one from south Asia or Russia. No fear of getting hit by a drunk/texter because the chances are just so small with professional pilots.

People always say this and, to be completely honest, I think it's total ********. Which will I survive - falling out of the sky at 30,000+ while going 550 mph or being hit at 65 mph in my truck by a drunk driver? I've been hit by two drunk drivers and some kid texting. Still here.

You don't want to travel? Would you take a cruise?

Would love to travel to China. My fear of flying won't allow it though, especially on a 16+ hour flight.

Not a fan of cruises either. Not as bad as flying, but I don't like the idea of being stuck at sea.

It's ironic because my family has some big travelers.

I agree with you. It's not safer statistically speaking. Going by stats you are likely to be able to fly every day of your life and never experience anything more than rough turbulence, whereas you stand a pretty decent chance of being in a car accident, such as you already have.

The reason I fear flying more than driving is when you are driving, you have an opportunity (sometimes) to take evasive action. You are in control of your vehicle and maybe can have an impact on the accident.

On a plane, if anything goes wrong, you are simply buckled in for the ride and have your life in the hands of someone else.

Additionally, in some plane accidents, you have several minutes to panic before impact, such as if you are falling out of the sky or on that GermanWings flight. I couldn't imagine knowing I'm likely to die, and then having like four minutes to think about it.

And don't get me going on these recent pilot suicides where they take passengers with them.

Jeff, if you don't fear flying, be sure to not start watching Mayday. I love that show but it sure makes you think a bit more about getting on a plane.

I was thinking teleportation.

Grade A weenie over here. Gotta make it out of that bubble at some point. Therapy is great.

That's a lot of fears you have, do they stem from a tramatic experience? Don't answer if that's too personal. Sometimes you just have to push through the fear or you will miss out on a lot of great things in life. I don't love planes, mainly because they're uncomfortable as **** and I hate the smell of recycled farts, but I fly a lot and I'm in the air for long periods of time. I just went to Austria in August and I'll be going to Ireland later this year. It's worth it.

Everyone always says that, but outside of planes, nothing else bothers me. My family has a boat and I enjoy being on that, but don't think I could do it for days at a time. More of an annoyance to be completely honest. I went on a cruise once in high school and it was so damn boring. Planes are definitely a deal breaker though, not a fan of flying at all. No traumatic experience, just hate the idea of flying. I love reading about airplanes though. I'll probably end up flying someday. I'd need to splurge on some really nice seats so I could be comfortable. And alcohol.

I've driven thousands of miles on trips and it didn't bother me one bit.

So you hate the idea of being able to go long distances in short periods of time because that 10 million to 1 shot might come in and you'll be in the hands of a trained professional instead of your own?

Flying is awesome. Being able to be in Los Angeles in 45 minutes on a whim back when my mom used to work for an airline. Free in coach or $20 first class anywhere they went. I miss it.
