Yeah, instead of McGwire vs Sosa, it's Pujols vs Time, and for a Cardinals fan, it makes every at-bat or game, especially when there is a LHP exciting.

At least the field was even. Everyone was doing PED in that era.
Sosa was jacked on roids and had a corked bat. I’m sure others did as well, but didn’t get caught.

I remember a Cards-Cubs game at Wrigley when I was yelling at Sosa all game long.

And then he hit a bottom of the 9th, game-wining home run.

Cubs fans threw all sorts of trash at me after that. It was hilarious!!!

The Montgomery trade was a stroke of brilliance
A complete game shutout is fantastic. Doing it in a game where your offense only gets you 1 run is huge. Doing both of those the night before a double header when the bullpen has some tired arms is massive. That performance was worth more than a win.

A double header in the middle of a 16 day stretch without a day off can cause normal bullpen fatigue to snowball into a bigger problem. Montgomery giving the bullpen the night off is a great way to stop that snowball from rolling. We would have been asking Waino to play Superman today (again) if we had gone to the bullpen for 3 or 4 innings last night. Now we are set up to simply ask him for a quality outing.

Single game efforts don't make a trade, but he has looked great as a Cardinal and last night certainly added an exclamation point to the trade.

We're facing lefties in the next two games, so I expect him to get 6-8 at bats. It would be great if he could get the magic number down to 9 this weekend.
...I guess I'm okay with Albert actually getting that number down to 8 over the weekend and then down to 7 before the Tuesday double header.

Here's hoping for a parade of lefties out of the bullpen today!

No complaints about going 1-1 in a double header and extending the division lead by half a game. Definitely nice to only use 5 total pitchers over 2 games with 2 of those guys pitching low-calorie innings with a healthy lead. It would be nice if we could occasionally score some runs for Waino, but all in all yesterday was a successful day.

Home plate ump is an absolute joke. Two on two out full count to Arenado. Check swing, doesn’t appeal to the first base umpire, just punches him out and then laughs when Nolan is justifiably pissed because he absolutely did not swing and throws him out. So unprofessional. Hate that umps answer to nobody but themselves and just ruin games.
