OT: CF Montréal: Potato Edition

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
I hate that it's barely available on regular tv.
Rebrand alienated me and the move to Apple TV relegated me to "casual".

It is sad because I use to have season tickets and I would not miss a game. Life got in the way, but management slowly drove me away as well. Will still watch when I have a chance and will go to games once a year on average, but yeah, a far cry to the guy who would drive from Quebec Ctiy every other week end... sad thing is I am in Sherbrooke now, much closer

One actual name would help a lot IMO. Even an over the hill guy like Giroud would have generated a bigger buzz. Heck, I'd take Insigne at this point.

I can't wait until Vrioni, Waterman, and Neal all being healthy or returning from National Team duty completely change the nature of the team and turns it into a contender.

It's a bit ironic.

They spent a lot on Booty, Pearce, Opuku, Bugaj and Iankov only to leave them on the bench or outside the 18.

Petrasso, Guboglo and Sealy who weren't on the team in January are getting more minutes than every guy above. Heck even Lotturi plays more than Herbers.

Courtois hasn't been really courteous lately and I wonder how much the blame he is going to get in the next weeks

The team is poorly coached.

That being said, this is nothing new and the most disappointing thing is coming to the conclusion that the only goal of this organization is to lose the least amount of money.

So nothing will never really change.

Best we can hope for is winning the Canadian championship and getting some Olympic stadium games for the CCL and hopefully make some nice memories. The only reason I follow this team is to post in this thread because I love you guys.

One name does nothing to building a winning team. Having a proper philosophy that includes spending an appropriate amount of money does.

They've tried coming up with philosophies for more than decade now, only to disguise the fact that the owner just simply doesn't want to get his feet wet because he doesn't believe in investing in this market.

It is what it is you know...

At this point, we have to accept it and sadly we are at the end of a cycle...maybe Saputo will infuse a bit more money in the short term (maybe a DP or two), but the organisation is so sooo far behind (need a new stadium adapted to canadian winter, need to invest in proper reserve team, need to invest in training facilities adapted to canadian winter, need to invest in proper scouting staff + youth detection etc.)

Those things seem like a pipe dream.

Even if Courtois isn't living up to the expectations, they have a shitty lineup, while the league is progressing and progressing.

That's the difference between you, along with the entire city of Montreal, and I. I will never accept it. If I continue to "support" this team, I will never stop pushing for this organization being treated like a professional sports team rather than a toy for a family to play with.

Yeah, I think we are all pushing for that, but what I mean by "accepting" is accepting the fact that they have no philosophy when it comes to a sports direction. We are simply club dollarama.

That being said, the club has nearly no media coverage and they seem to be ok with selling tickets to casuals that just want an evening out. They don't care about PR.

Nothing will change. If they lose attendance, they'll just cut somewhere else.

I was strictly talking about generating casual fan interest. I have a real hard time talking some of my buddies who watch the national team to also watch this, there's nobody on the roster I can point to they would even remotely have heard of. When the football is also pretty ugly and not a lot of fun to watch, it makes for an impossibly hard sell.

Part of why I say what I say is that by "accepting" that this club is simply a "Dollarama" type of club, people stop talking about it and as you said, they get away with it.

Ya I get it. The point that I've been trying to make is around all the stupidity surrounding talk of bringing in guys like Giroud, Greizzman, Pogba, etc.. They won't do anything if they just bring in one guy to appease the francophone fans. I'd much rather them invest as a whole like Columbus, Cincy, and other teams have rather than one French guy.

They get away with it because they can still fill up the stadium by selling tickets for cheap. People who go watch the games are either hardcore fans, or people who don't really care for the team but just want an evening out.

The media guys who used to talk about it are ostracized.

Talking about it does nothing. The day the stadfium will be empty, they'll probably blame the city first and then do something.
