Wonder what the odds of Barlow coming back would be.

Below a point per game in 61 games. Way fewer goals than previous years too and never really has looked like himself.

Aware he is a a signed 1st round pick but he has bust written all over him. Can’t go NCAA for a year since he’s signed and probably not AHL ready if he isn’t even putting up the points at the OHL level.

It’s not just this season that’s been a “down year” - - Barlow has been regressing since his draft year. There’s no question he’s been a massive disappointment in Oshawa this year. If you recall, I was one of the few people who strongly opposed the idea of Oshawa acquiring him.

Barlow has a quick release and a powerful shot, but the accuracy just isn’t consistently there. It doesn’t do much good to blast a shot three feet wide of the net. Aside from his shot, there’s not much else to Barlow’s game. Average to below average skater, not physical, isn’t able to create for himself and definitely not able to create for teammates.

So while it’s a very valid question to suggest that Barlow might return to the OHL next year, there’s two reasons why it almost assuredly will never happen.

Leaving Barlow in the OHL as an over age player would be an embarrassing acknowledgment of failure by Winnipeg management. And since Cheveldayoff is the one who drafted him, he’s never going to be willing to admit to making such a massive mistake - - not just by making the mistake of taking him in the mid 1st round, but in compounding the mistake by giving him an ELC.

The other reason why Winnipeg would never leave Barlow in the OHL is because Oshawa’s coaching is so terrible. Maybe if he was in London playing for the Hunter brothers it’d be a different story, but Barlow certainly isn’t going to learn anything from Brad Malone. None of Oshawa’s 1st round NHL picks have progressed at all this year.

In fact, Danford and Ritchie have both regressed. It’s just not quite as obvious as Barlow’s fall off. Sennecke hasn’t taken a step forward either - - his scoring increased but his undisciplined penalties/suspensions and careless turnovers have been painfully evident.

Ritchie and Sennecke really faded badly over the past six weeks. Ritchie has 1 goal and 6 assists over his last 12 games. That prorates to a 40 point season. Sennecke has been marginally better with 2 goals and 9 assists over his last 12 games, but that’s way below what you’d expect from a player of his talent.

Yeah, the only thing from Barlow that points to 1st round talent is his goal scoring from his d-1 and dy, nothing else. I think he is a better player than he's shown this year, though.

I agree there is no chance he plays in the OHL next year. Brennan Othmann production nearly halved when he went to the Petes in his d+2 as well. Went from 0.75 GPG and 1.5 PPG to less than half a GPG and a PPG player. Both mid FRPs. THough Othmann is not exactly what you are looking for, he had a solid first two seasons in the AHL and has a good shot at being a full-time NHLer next season. Hopefully, for Barlow's sake, he can follow a similar trajectory.

I see that Kingston and Oshawa both ended up with 88 points. But Oshawa had one more win than Kingston. When two teams tie in the standings, isn't the tiebreaker who has more wins. But in the standings, Kingston finished above Oshawa. Is the tiebreaker no longer the number of wins?

No it’s ROW which Kingston had more. They also subtract any shootout wins from the totals too. The second tie breaker would have been head to head.

Any word on injuries following the last game of the season with both Danford and Sandhu going down?
Danford returned after 2 shifts and finished the game. No concern there. Sandhu and his knee is a question mark. He tried to come out for a shift but ended up leaving the game. Hoping it was just a precaution as it was a nothing game.

Still also not sure on Martin, he has been out a couple weeks.

An observation from tonight. Malone needs to “consult” with the referees more. Morale wise, it lets the players know he has their backs.

Two instances tonight.

Oshawa player cross checked to the ice and on the ice in front of the Brampton net with no call. Malone did nothing.

Griffin fight where, arguably, the Brampton player should have got the instigator. Malone did nothing.

21 minutes of playoff hockey and Barlow has a hat trick.

People will still say Oshawa overpaid lol
He showed tonight why he came at that hefty price. Will need that for the rest of the playoffs.

Konnor Smith on the other hand….WOOF. Big rig was nothing more than a big liability out there.

I'm so glad Oshawa "missed" out in Konnor Smith
Was he ever awful. I was shocked by how bad he and Sova were. 2 overage D-man who went for lots, I was expecting so much more. Neither are even good players. Smith is big, what else? He tries to play physically but misses the big hit and gets pushed around. He is a terrible skater. Absolutey pathetic liability. Who does he know in the Ducks organization? how does a guy who cannot skate get drafted? Sova was just soft and invisible. Let's hope this keeps up.

What a pathetic start from Ivankovic. Am shocked based on his calm and solid start with Canada at the WJC in front of a sold out Canada crowd at the CTC. He did not look ready. Big decision for Brampton.

Rhekopf-MacDonell-Martone line can be dangerous like we saw at time but it is best for Oshawa if they are playing together. Doesn't seem to be tons of scoring depth without them. Martone needs to be bothered as much as possible, cannot keep his cool, love seeing him go at it with 4th liners. Got a penalty and was sitting on the bench arguing like a child not wanting to go to the box, rare behaviour from a captain. Play a physical game with him.

Barlow looked like the talent he is tonight. Shot was on target, playing physical-finshing checks, forechecking and sound defensive game. He could've scored 5 tonight. Hopefully he builds off this.

Weird to see Torrance move to the 4th line?

Griffin should've took the PP and kept his gloves on. No instagater? Scary fall but I think he may have just fell, not knocked out. Otherwise concerning stuff from Brampton players cheering after a guy take a dangerous fall

Game 1 was an absolute boat race, certainly Oshawa’s best game in a few weeks. Jack Ivankovic was God-awful. No idea why they left him in so long when it was obvious after Danford’s goal that he just didn’t have anything tonight. Especially when Gillespie has played so well Oshawa throughout the season.

The only one worse than Ivankovic tonight was Konnor Smith. By far the biggest player on the ice but instead of using his size to hit people, Smith was only focused on taking embarrassing dives and flopping around on the ice in a pitiful attempt to draw penalties. I lost count of how many own zone turnovers he had tonight, and there’s no excuse for him to be bodied off the puck by much smaller players. Smith is a terrible skater with ZERO offensive ability, so if he’s not playing physical hockey he might as well be sitting in the press box.

Great to see Colby Barlow with the hat trick. Granted, one was a tap in and one bounced in off of him but maybe this can be the catalyst to turn around his disappointing season.

Speaking of hat tricks, the most cringeworthy moment of the game was when MacDonell scored his third of the night with a minute to go to make it 7-4. The goal was completely irrelevant and entirely insignificant, but some kook from Brampton decided he should throw his hat on the ice in jubilation. Which pretty much sums up the Steelheads.

Great atmosphere last nite..was fun to be there. OSTER let's a softie in on first goal but he rebounds and settles in rest of game. BARLOW was dominate even without the puck in the defensive end..Great to see .. I feel Ritchie is hurt or something, he hasn't been himself in quite some time.. not sure wat to say about this guy..Senneka still trying to stick handle thru the whole team instead of just dumping and chasing.. Gens need to shore up 2mrrw nite game and take a 2-0 lead. Should be interesting..

Sennecke (correct spelling) puts up 3 pts (2 goals) and you still aren't happy? Ritchie puts up 2 pts and checks all night and you aren't happy?

Sounds like someone has made a bot account

you come on here all the time yapping and correcting people And being a key board warrior. Are you gonna be at the game on Sunday or are you rogers cable guy on ur couch? .. I'm stating my opinion and me saying sennecke trys to do too much isn't nothing new, he has done this all season . This is why in my opinion he has regressed this year under the coaching.. again no need to be a smartass on here when someone puts out their opinion..

I thought Sennecke was fine. Definitely made some risky plays, but the Gens had a sizeable lead at points. Didn’t think it was anything egregious. Ritchie quietly put up 2 points but I thought he was actually quite physical last night. He was hard on the forecheck. Got a few good hits in on Smith.

I was more so surprised at how Brampton was targeting Griffin a lot. Even before the fight. Leskovar was going at him for a bit. Not sure what that was all about. They were hard on Griffin but were giving Ritchie, Sennecke, and Barlow tons of space to work with. I imagine that will change in gm 2.

I thought the same thing. Especially Griffin, don't know who he pissed off but he battled through it and took it on the chin (literally) and battled back after that fight to set up a beautiful goal. I actually thought it was his until they called the tip by Sennecke. Kid has really progressed well in his sophomore year.

Might earn himself a 6th-7th round draft pick.
