Sennecke, Marrelli and Barlow don’t even get invited to camp. Knew Marrelli wouldn’t make it but surprised he didn’t even get invited. Shocked Sennecke isn’t on the team let alone invited to camp. Great news for the gens though. Hopefully those 3 play pissed off and stick it to them!

I am absolutely shocked. Senneke not being invited is a joke. I can somewhat understand Barlow. Maybe even understand Marrelli to a certain extent. But, Senneke is a shocker.

If Pinelli makes the team I will refuse to watch

Pinelli is a one man show in Ottawa. It is not like opposition teams don’t head into every game with the intent of shutting him down. IT is not like there is anyone else to worry about. Int he face of that, Pinelli has done very well. I wouldn’t argue against Pinelli being invited. That said, Senneke not being there is just silly. Pretty deep invite list though.

I miss the days of inviting 40 guys and seeing what they can do on the ice, and have to earn their way on to the team through there play. Senneke strikes me as a player that is able to play on any of the 4 lines and contribute to the game however they would like him to. Very strange to see that omission. Marelli has not history with Hockey Canada and that usually means you get the short end of the stick. Barlow does have a history but was very meh during his time playing for HC.

Random Thoughts:
Luca D'Amato legacy game??

Gens continue to own Kingston, and more specifically Nolan Lalonde, this season.

I really do think the game changed when Ritchie threw that bad hit on Gage Heyes and nobody on Kingston stepped in and stood up for him. At minimum it's a chance to get to fight Ritchie (he would've had to after that hit) and you get one of the best players in the league off the ice for 7 minutes, but also showing you'll stand up for your guys. Yet they did nothing and KGN very soon after that fell apart. That's one of those little things that quickly becomes a big thing when you don't play the game the right way. On the other side, Burns with a shift where he keeps taking late slashes/hits on guys and O'Tool immediately jumps on the ice and the fight. Does he do it too often? Yes. But the intention is clear and helps form the identity of the team. Couldn't believe nobody on KGN stood up for Heyes, especially with Ritchie of all people throwing the hit.

Gens now just 1 point out of 1st in the conference, and have played 1 fewer game than Kingston.

How are a member of the Canada brass and watch that game, against the 1st place team in the conference, and not say yeah we definitely need Beckett Sennecke on the WJ team?

I’m not so sure about that one. I would have agreed coming into the season but he’s really amped up his game this season. He really is a much better player now than last season.

As I mentioned, his centre is Cooper Foster who isn’t a centre. His right wing has been a hodge-podge of somewhere between crap and average. It really is a situation where the opposition approaches the games as worrying about Pinelli and let everyone else beat you. Even in the face of that, he is still producing. I wouldn’t sell him short considering the jump he’s added to his game. If he were surrounded by the players he was in the past, his production would be deadly but as a solo one man gang, he’s done very well.

That still doesn’t discount some of the omissions. I’m not going to play the “this guy over that guy” game. I’m sure each player is deserving in their own right. But, Senneke should not jsut be there but should be on the team…period. I wouldn’t suggest that Pinelli is there at the expense of Senneke. Gavin McKenna is 16 years old. He’s not eligible until the 2026 draft. HE’s putting up good numbers but if I were to play that game, he’s the first one I would point to question. Luchanko would be another. But, both a good players so it is tough to really cherry pick the selections and cut them down.

Misa plays in a system that promotes offence. That could be a reason why he’s not there. Barlow has been very average overall this season. His production should be significantly higher than it has been.

All this points to a deep Team Canada program right now. The Canada vs USA series last week also proved that.

I’m not surprised about Barlow, marelli deserves a chance and sennecke has been tearing it up lately. They must’ve had their list already before yesterday’s game or something because after that game I don’t know how he doesn’t even get an invite.

Completely agree he sticks out as the guy who should not be there.

Misa, Spence, He, and Lardis are more LW that may have warranted an invite, but like Senneke were not. The one thing Pinelli has that no others do, is familiarity with Cameron; that might help in practice.

when Connor Bedard went to the World Juniors he had 23 pts.

Gavin McKenna has 55.

I think he should be effective. At a 2.03 ppg clip right now. Leading the CHL in points and doesn’t turn 17 until Dec 20th.

At the U18’s Mckenna and Martone had 20 and 17 points respectively in only 7 games. They’re definitely going to try them two again on the same line with potential of both coming back next year.

That is not to diminish McKenna and his abilities but I think it is fair to question a 16 year old that will JUST turn 17 prior to the start of the tournament. Maybe if he were more physically mature at his age?

And the u-17’s are played agaisnt the same age cohort, not players 2 years older.

February birth date for Misa, December for Mckenna. This is only mckennas second full season and he is leading the chl in points. Misa is great but he is not Mckenna.

Misa not playing in the U18s was due to an injury I believe but if not then it’s just a real boneheaded move. Bedard and McDavid both played in the U18s who are the last “generational” forwards to come out of the CHL

I think Misa is good enough to be there but he is best as a centre. Who of the centres invited is he better than? Short list for sure. He will be on the team next year though for sure.
