Oh, and what I saw on the disputed goal (Oster freezing the puck against the post) looked like it went in, but you would never get a clear enough camera shot to overturn the on ice no goal call.

The OHL could save a bunch of money by eliminating the refs and have someone in the booth make random calls.
That play was also 5 feet offside, so even if they called it a goal, it would've been no goal. On the zone entry both linesmen looked at the other thinking the other one would be on the line and neither was there to make the call. I don't think I've seen that before. That's as basic as it gets

That 2nd period was some of the Gens best hockey of the season, dominating a pretty good team. 3 points each for Ritchie, Sennecke and Marrelli, Barlow with 7 points in the last 7 games, all 7 being primary points.

Brantford really came unglued with Moore, Roberts and Crombie all completely losing their cool and McKee not doing anything to be able to control them. Gens didn't bite on it at all and instead just took advantage of the dumb penalties.

Nice to see O'Toole get into the lineup in a game that was expected to be more chippy and back and forth and he beat Hamara's ass pretty good. Wouldn't mind them to keep doing that where they go into what will likely be a more physical game and take out a Toms or Costello and put in O'Toole.

The PK continues to be an issue. Not sure why it's so bad as they have good defensive personnel on it

Roberts reminds me of Sawyer Boulton, absolute dirty player that shouldn’t be in the OHL.

It was a crappy trade for Oshawa, Delisle is doing great. Oshawa‘s defence is not doing well.
I know this take was only 6 days ago, but can we revisit this already? Lol

Delisle has 1(!) primary point for OS. Saying that Delisle is doing great means you think he's the worst player ever if him getting 1 primary point in 9 games is great for him.

Barlow with 7 primary points in his last 7 games now.

The trade is exactly what everyone in the OHL world, except the trolls, thought it was. A hired gun who's as dangerous as anyone in the league, for a small F who isn't ready to contribute yet and a big defensive D who was needed to get the trade done

To be absolutely fair though it’s not all about points specially as a D

To be absolutely fair though it’s not all about points specially as a D
And no I’m not saying he’s a D I’m just saying in general it’s not all about points players can be very good and not have a ton of points

Anyone who would still rather have Delisle and Bedkowski over Barlow on this roster is insane to me.

Losing Bedkowski sucks but you gotta give up young talent to get established talent, art of the deal.

Delisle was in the role that Griffin is in now after the deal and I would take Griffin over Delisle most days.

Barlow had a slow start but that is more than fine. If he stays at a point per game going forward, that's more than either player would've produced year long, probably combined.

The Owen Sound, oops I mean Gens, season ticket holder is really making Delisle look bad saying 1 primary point in 9 games is him being great lol. That's the most disrespectful thing I've seen said
I watch all the teams in the OHL and also watch minor hockey under 16, being retired for 12 years allows me the luxury of enjoying my favourite sport, I don’t get hung up on statistics like you do, that seems to be your life, which is kind of sad, but then again, to each their own.

For sure, but they've also lost 8 games in a row lol. And I don't want to make this a shit on Delisle thing, because thats not fair to him, he was traded because he's a young player who's not able to contribute yet but very likely could in the future, which is why Jr hockey trades like this happen. But when fake Gens fan trolls come in saying he's playing "great" and act like Barlow is the worst player of all-time, well then its time we look at the actual numbers and see one of them has 1 primary point in 9 games and they're 1-8 in those games and one has 7 primary points in his last 7 games and they've won 7 of their last 8, it doesn't quite match up

It is about the opportunity cost. The judgement will come at the deadline when we see those prices.

No it won't. They got a full year of Barlow and were bidding against other teams looking for a full year of him. He went for basically the exact same as Rehkopf, which was also for a full year. The prices at the deadline are apples to oranges since they're only getting the player for half the time. Rehkopf trade is really the only comparable for a Barlow trade this season, and it already happened and clearly was used as the framework

A smart backdown ;)

LOL. Yes!

I think the overall point is trades like these are made to win a championship. It isn’t done to get an extra 8 points in the standings.

So the question that will get answered is whether there will end up being some good deals available at the deadline or not. That will be the litmus test on the early trades, the Barlow one included.

If there are good deals to be had, Oshawa, in theory, would have an extra bullet or two in their playoff gun.

As of right now, it is shaping up to be a sellers market but we shall see what happens.

The one caveat to all this is making fun of the OS fans. OS made out very well so I’m not sure mocking them is ideal.

I don't think we making fun of OS founds, rather making tongue and cheek comments towards a certain someone.

This trade was great by both parties. It helped Oshawa now and helps OS future.

Oshawa isn't worried about the draft picks cause they will get them all back next year when they rebuild and trade Sennecke and Marrelli.

This is either you being extremely unaware of the discourse that has happened, or intentionally acting oblivious. You respond in every thread at seemingly every hour of the day, so I don't think it's the first one. Certain OS fans (with one posing a Gens fan despite us being able to see their prior history to the trade happening, which was only on the OS thread) were going off like Delisle is the best player of all-time. I'm sorry but he's not.

They got an undersized 2nd year F who wasn't a 1st round pick who's future upside is likely energy complimentary F and a 3rd year defensive D, plus 2x2nd+2x3rd for an entire year of a 1st round NHL pick 50 goal scorer. That is far under value considering what those players normally go for, which is almost always a rookie 1st rounder, 2/3x3nd and 2/3x3rd. So they gave up an xtra 35 games of him, didn't get any more picks, and got lower player value than normal. I get they were backed into a corner because the player didn't want to play for them anymore, but no you can't act like they fleeced anyone lol.

Wait, so it's almost like the reason every single trade between a CHL win-now team and "we suck let's rebuild" team happens??? Woahhhh

I think you are inflating the discourse and seem to be combative regarding the Delisle comments. If the OS fans are happy with him and what he has achieved, leave it at that. There is absolutely no reason for you to take a combative stance in that regard.

This particular trade is a relatively standard trade. IMO, I think it was a little heavy but within the margins of what the deal should have been. That isn’t the real question though. The real question is whether the generals have the defence depth and/or assets to sacrifice Bedkowski in that deal. That is the component that is not part of the standard trade. You don’t normally see 18 year olds of his ilk moved in a deal like this.

So, the question then becomes whether Oshawa could have gotten an alternative forward that would have same/similar impact than a deal without Bedkowski. And my point is we won’t know until the deadline when we see the other deals made.

I think the Barlow deal was too rich for the Generals because your team needs outweigh the individual effect of a player like Barlow. And, if we are to believe there is no intention of trading Smith, then the Gens will need to get pretty crafty to fill in the remainder of the gaps.

I still like Oshawa’s chances specifically because of the top end talent. I think that is more meaningful in the playoffs but any injuries will affect them because of the lack of depth overall. That is the thing that concerns me a bit.

Respectfully no one is going to know the true outcome of this trade for a couple years.
If Oshawa wins the ship this season then the Barlow trade made a lot of sense for them.
If they didn't they wasted a lot of assets and will basically be starting from scratch next year again.

O/S got a very good 17 year old Dman that was the prime piece in the trade imo.
They did alright with the picks too.
It's not really possible to say anyone clearly won that trade until we find out how Bedskowski and Delisle develop and what those 6 picks turn into in my opinion.

Bedkowski is an ‘06 which is why this was a head scratcher for me. I could understand if he were an ‘07 and not currently playing a top 4 role.

Exactly nobody’s going to know for about 2-3 years.

If Oshawa wins the championship gotta say a championship surely wins the trade. If they don’t win and choke in the second round for instance then they gave up 2 future great OHL players and a bunch of picks for nothing.

Naming a winner of the trade in November makes absolutely 0 sense

Also about Owen Sounds draft picks what if 2 of those guys they get from draft picks in the 2nd/3rd end up being NHL guys? Lots of things to consider.

I can definitely see Oshawa moving Smith at the deadline if needed.

The way I see it. Oshawa needs 2 more Dman and 1 Forward. Likely 1 of the Dman will be to upgrade over D'Amato as an OA, another Dman to replace Rodriguez, then another Forward as it's very unlikely Roobroeck returns now.
