Sudbury will and should keep him right until the deadline if that is what makes sense for the franchise and SJ should have no issues with it. Their issue should be with their player not reporting to the team they reassigned him to.

It is not uncommon for players to request/demand a trade and play until the trade happens. I could see Musty not being traded by the Hioliday break and not reporting after Christmas. Fine. Make sense at that point. But, he is also a potential candidate for Team Canada. Sitting out does nothing for him in that regard.
I can guarantee you SJ will have an issue with it. They're going to side with the asset they just used a very high pick on and have spent a lot of $ already on coaching and skill development on.

But, he is also a potential candidate for Team Canada. Sitting out does nothing for him in that regard.
He's American

I am not sure if he is eligible to play for Team USA under IIHF rules if he has been suspended by the Wolves for not reporting after he was sent back from San Jose. I know if a player is suspended by the OHL they are not eligible to play in the World Junior until the suspension is completed. Does anybody know whether a team suspension is also enforced?
He's not suspended. He could play this weekend if he wanted to

Question for gens fans.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but if you knew Barlow would be struggling for a month back then and the rest of the year is unclear would you still have made the trade knowing Delisle and bedkowski were breaking out?

I know a certain poster on here would take it back in a heart beat but just wondering about the rest of you guys

Whoopee, against the absolute last place team in the entire league.

Maybe he’s just a slow starter.

It was a crappy trade for Oshawa, Delisle is doing great. Oshawa‘s defence is not doing well.

100000%. Bedkowski and Delisle weren’t
going to help the team this year and the teams best chance to win is this season. I know OS fans act like Delisle’s been McDavid since getting traded there and that’s fine, but he has 1 primary point in his 7 games in OS. He would’ve been 3rd/4th line for the gens until the deadline and then 4th/scratched after the deadline. He very well might turn into a very useful player, but it’ll be after the gens win window has passed. Which is why you trade young players away for solid vets when your team is ready to win..

Bedkowski was the bigger piece of that trade as he could’ve been 2nd/3rd line D now and maybe 6th D after the deadline if he had a good start. But with the wrist injury he wasn’t even playing anyways and D are generally far cheaper to get in trade than good Fs (look at the Sandhu trade).

Not to mention, the Gens are basically guaranteed to make the playoffs this season. So really they just need Barlow to be good in the playoffs. Would be a nightmare season but if he had 0G the entire reg season and then had a massive playoffs, it would be worth it. They don’t need Barlow to get them in the playoffs, they’re already a good team before him. They need him to help them get big wins once they’re in the playoffs. Look what Halttunen did last playoffs for London. He had a fine regular season then got hot and was a top 3 player in the league for the playoffs because of his crazy shot. No reason Barlow couldn’t go on a stretch like that at a big time.

No doubt. Barlow was acquired for playoffs. Regular season is virtually meaningless.

My personal opinion is they paid too much. I don't think he is as good as his reputations s a prospect. I think it would have been better to package the picks and Delisle for a different player. Keep Bedkowski. BUT, it does keep him off of the roster of their competition. There is always that as a bonus. You don’t have to face him.

I am speculating of course. It is possible that a player like Romani goes for the same, not less. Who knows? The values seem to rise every year.

It's hard to have an opinion that they paid too much when you arent involved in the conversations on what the ask is and what Barrie/Brampton, etc. are offering for the same player.

It's also less than a player like Barlow normally goes for in any other year. WJ calibre 1st round picks usually go for rookie 1st rounder +2/3 2nd+2/3 3rds for half a season of the player. The Gens paid less than that for a full season of the player.

The market was set by Rehkopf who went for 3x2nd, 3x3rd, 3x4th.

So if you're comparing the trades, the Gens basically turned Delisle+Bedkowski into 2nd, 3rd, 3x4th. That makes sense, that's probably roughly what those 2 are worth at this point in their careers. So lines up almost exactly with the Rehkopf price.

I am sure they want to keep good relations with the agent who helped them get an American stud to move to Sudbury and the SJ Sharks.

100%. I get what OMG is saying from a surface level, but Jr hockey is so much about relationships with agents and NHL teams and if you destroy one, it could really screw you over come OHL draft and import draft times.

Not that SBY is doing anything wrong, because they're not. But in the end SJ doesn't care, they just want their player playing.

Agreed, there is a fine line but the Agents understand the situation they are placing on the team. It is a two-way street. The agents want what is best for the player because that is who pays them but they also cannot be unrealistic. The agents aren’t going to force the hands of the team either because if they do, they know they won’t have an easy time with other players in the future.

We are only speculating but since he is not traded yet, it seems clear that either Musty’s camp has a restricted list where the teams aren’t as keen on him as he is on them which is making the price unsettling OR Sudbury is holding firm on the best value and trying to force the Musty side to agree to go to a specific destination. I doubt it is anything else other than that.

As you mentioned with Barlow, the market is pretty much set. Musty is worth every bit as much as Barlow and Rehkof. It is not like an agent should force the Wolves to accept a shit deal for their player when it is their player causing the issue. HE should be playing as a courtesy while the team works out a deal.

I have a different opinion on what Bedkowski and Delisle are worth. I think the McNamara and Ride trades last year are probably closer to the true value of those two. No 2nds involved in those deals but a lot of 3rds and deeper picks.

I think Oshawa could have gotten Musty for Delisle and those picks plus two additional picks and kept Bedkowski. Now they need to add a D-Man AND replace Bedkowski. Delisle isn’t an integral player this year so no big deal there. But, I do think Bedkowski is a very solid bottom pairing D-Man on a Championship calibre team. You could go get a moderately priced 19 year old to replace him but at Bedkowski’s age, he is an asset that could be flipped next year to recoup assets.

Was thinking the same thing

Who cares about regular season he could go 68 games without a point for all I care. What I’d be looking for is when it counts

Lol not trying to down play it or be the bare of bad news but Colby in the playoffs has been swept two out of 3 times. Hes got 12 points in 15 games and 6 of those were in his rookie season when he had 5 goals and 1 assist. Im not sure hes mu h of a playoff gamer either. He was fantastic regular season at putting the puck in the net but to me his best season was for sure his rookie year. I do hope he turns it around and has a deep run but Im not sold that hes a true gamer unfortunatly.

It’s junior hockey. When you’re young you rarely make an impact then when you get older, you become the guy. To say what a Jr player is when they’re 17 is gonna be the same as when they’re 19 is just wrong. Not to mention Barlow’s teams were the 6th seed, the 7th seed and the 7th seed. He’s never been on a team who’s even close to as good as the team they’re playing in a playoff series.

Beckett Sennecke had 1 point in 5 games in 2023 playoffs. The next year he had 22 points in 16 games lol. And that’s only 17 year old season to 18 year old season

Michael Misa has 19 points in 28 career playoff games (0.68 PPG).

Liam Greentree has 1 career playoff point in 4 games (0.25 PPG).

Kevin He has never even played a playoff game.

Need I go on..?

These guys will all dominate the playoffs this season

Trust me Im not saying he can't he has tools he has one of the best releases but just saying he hasnt had a great track record just yet. Playing with a guy like Richie should instantly improve his chances. Oshawa does have a fairly deep lineup which helps as well. But lets not forget OS was suppose to be making a run last season. At the start of the year it appeared they had a deep squad and yet they finished 7th and got swept. Not saying that will happen but weird stuff happens in this league.

I’d do this trade all over again and not think twice about. Gens are a much better team with Barlow than the other two, and I wouldn’t say Delisle is breaking out. Maybe a 30 point guy this season. I also don’t care how Owen sound did in the playoffs as if that’s some sort of proof Barlow can’t win in the playoffs. That’s irrelevant.
