You can vote twice, the first team should be a lay up the second team might surprise you.

For bonus points reply with which team has the worst record for winning series, this should be obvious.

Are we talking about series during the time that there were only six teams, or does it include series played after 1967?

If just prior to expansion, I would say Montreal first, Detroit second, and Rangers last.

I'll wait till the poll closes to post the results , we got a handful of trivia experts :)

Anyone want to take a stab at who the team is that has the worse series winning %?

Thanks for posting this. I sort of get a little bitter looking at it. You could almost lay some of those stats on the feet of Keefe, Dubas, core players, Shanny...

We should be higher.

No almost, you should. When people say we are the hockey Meca of the world, we are not even in the top 4 of the six original teams.

I wanna say Winnipeg has played more than 10 series in their history, they did run up against the Oilers in the 80's a lot so maybe it's correct, this is from Hockey Reference.

Prior to the last 7 years, our record was 56 and 52, for a 0.519 winning %.

It must be some form of dyslexia, but for some reason I read this as ‘lost more series than won’. Went with leafs and b’s lol

I never understood Toronto “the Hockey mecca”. It’s just a large city, with lots of media, and lots of people that don’t like hockey.

Prior to expansion and Harold Ballard, the Leafs were tied with Montreal for games played, and second to them in Cups, wins, and goals (third in gpg behind Hamilton and Montreal).

If you grew up anywhere in Canada (where most players did) outside of Quebec, then Toronto really was the "Hockey Mecca". They've been living off that rep for 57 years, but it is becoming less and less true with each passing season.

Nothing's more fun than playing "at least my team isn't as bad as your team".

Too bad for Leafs fans they lose that game a lot. This is the worst organization in all sports. So I'm not surprised to see the Leafs plummeting down the playoffs winning percentage list.

All this management group has done is jumble together a team with the vague goal of contending.

How they plan on accomplishing that from their current status as annual playoffs chokers is unclear. Right now everything appears higgledy piggledy. A result of their poor execution on whatever brilliant spur of the moment idea they operate under.

This is where we are at.

The team has won a single round in the ten years since Shanahan was hired. A single round in the eight years since Matthews was drafted. A single round in the six years since Tavares was signed.

But at least they're not Ottawa.

The Winnipeg one could be confusing. That list would show the current 2.0 version. The 80's & 90's Jets would be under those dismal Phoenix numbers where the Jets faced Gretzky & Co nearly every year in the playoffs as Smythe rivals.

I knew Montreal would have more wins than losses but I would've thought Detroit and Boston would've switched. Boston hasn't had an extended period of being a bad regular season team but I guess that means they've had more opportunities to make the playoffs and lose, and they do have a history of choking. And I thought the "Dead Wings" era would've really dragged Detroit down but I guess that era of dominance from 1995-2009 really brought up their number. And boy did it, Detroit had a record of 29 series wins and 10 series losses in that span.

When Toronto is referred to as the hockey Mecca of the world, I believe what is meant is the area (GTA) has the most people actually playing the sport than any other city The area produces more NHL players than any other city in the world. Has the largest number of fans of the sport. I think Leafs as an organization don’t figure into the equation, they are certainly far from an organizational mecca

Neither of the top 2 came as a surprise, for myself. I thought it should be fairly obvious, tbh.
Detroit was in the playoffs for like forever and sure they took a lot of first round losses too but generally were a pretty dominant team in the mid 90's - early 00's. Montreal should have been obvious based on; they are barely ever in the playoffs over the past 30 years and yet still have far and away the most cups.

I just did a very quick count. GTA roughly 57 players currently in the NHL. Finland, with roughly the same population (5.5M) has 38. (Not counting goalies.)

That's surprisingly close.

Still comparing g a city to an entire country. Not the same thing. Sort of like saying thunder Bay has more per capita because the staals came from there. Per capita is not the same thing.

A few years ago I did a count over 200 rinks in Toronto counting the outdoor ones.
