Am I the only one who doesn't have a problem with the Benson play? He gets pushed into Wedgie by Kelley, gets up and scores a goal. Are you honestly going to argue that if the roles were reversed that you'd want Kivi to just throw the puck into the crowd to get a whistle for the other teams goalie? Hell no! You play until the whistle.

Even Bednar admitted Kelley pushed him, he never once complained about Benson.

Maybe the coaching staff can use it as a point to stop f***ing pushing players into your own goalie. I have no idea why players keep doing it in the year of our lord 2025. Colton was pushed into UPL after his goal too. It's like players are seriously brain dead or they hate their goalies. I don't know why they never tried that with Georgiev though
I want that whistle blown.

But I think the hate is that this twat celebrated so hard after scoring against a clearly injured goalie.

Every single player on this team would have celly'd if the situation was reversed

If you see a clearly injured player you should stop the play if the refs haven't. I'd want an Avs player to do so. It's the right thing to do.

Earn your goals. And if you're not going to show class and are going to score in the empty net on hurt goalie sure as f*** don't t celebrate it.
Play to the whistle and take the breaks you get. Everyone on this team would have scored the same. It's not classless, it's the game

The argument that Kelly pushed Benson is irrelevant. No one is arguing for a goalie interference call. That call was not missed.

What was missed was calling the play dead on a clearly injured player, especially given they were down and out in the net and unable to protect themselves from shots. If player safety is paramount, you cannot allow pucks to be shot at a goalie who is down injured and vulnerable.

I think I've recovered from watching that. Only thing to add is I didn't have a problem with what Benson did on the goal either. Play to the whistle. We've been burned by that already this year.

Whether or not there should have been a whistle is a different argument (obviously yes).

This is where I'm at as well. No issues with Benson putting that puck in the net at all. I would expect our guys to do the same in that scenario. My issue lies moreso with the fact a goalie clearly injured in the crease not getting up warrants a whistle regardless of who has the puck. Bednar made a great point, what if Benson passed that to the point and Dahlin/Power just loaded up a slapshot or something? To me it was more a player safety concern in the events leading up to the goal.

If I didn't know better, I would NEVER guess that Ryker was once a professional athlete after seeing that. LOL. That's about as unathletic a jump/celly as you'll ever see.

What's redder? The Avs logo, or Mose's face while making that call?

Call me whatever but not counting the "cant believe it" whenever Garbagiev left in a softie I really like the them calling the games 🫣

I really dont need to have neutral play by play calling when watching my favourite team play. I was raised to like this as a child by watching our national F1 commentator yelling like a Brasilian in a football broadcast 😅

Whenever I watch play by play calling from east coast broadcast I ffin fall asleep 😬

I doubt Cale Makar or Nate would start pumping their fists after scoring on an incapacitated goalie. Hell, Makar's the same guy who declined a penalty last year when he knew he didn't get tripped.

I don't blame Benson too much - he's 19 year old kid who just scored a goal in his rookie season and probably wasn't fully aware of the circumstances. At the same time, I don't blame the Avs for being supremely pissed about it - there's is a bit of a code in play.

How do you not know something is up when you see the goalie is still down and out of position five seconds later.

And then the celebration like he scored the golden goal.

Anyone have the fancy stat graph that shows Mittelstadt and Byram for tonight?
I looked at the highlight and it seemed to me, that Benson was looking away from the net, so did not know Wedgewood was injured, up until he received the pass behind the net, still looking away, and then, after he turned toward the net, his eyes are on the puck, he does not look at Wedgewood at all, but focuses on doing the wrap around. Additionally there is referee in there, he needed to avoid, and between getting to the puck at the board and getting it into net, its more like 2 seconds, not 5.

That Celebration sucked for sure. But the blame for the whole situation lies primarily with refs imo.
