He’s best when he drives to the net. All 3 scored within feet of the net. He was not that same after that concussion for a while. Last night he looked like himself again.

Knies having his coming out party this season.

Seems to be just the kind of player the Leafs need at this point in time.

Honestly he's hot/cold I assume because of his youth and inexperience but his first games with us were playoff games and he was immediately impactful.

I think he was on the ice for every single game winning goal in that Tampa series they won which was also his first games. Last year he had a few big moments including a game winner.

It does seem the Leafs got a kid who has that dog in him

That's one of the "nicest" hattricks I've seen in a very long time. All 3 were beauties especially the tip in and the 2nd goal.

Also, I know this is a Knies appreciation thread but for non-Leafs fans, you have to know Mitch Marner is must-watch TV this season. He was insane last night, all over the ice, finger prints all over every goal. His pass on the first goal (McCabe) was so intelligent, how he extended to get it past the defenders stick before sliding into space for McCabe to skate into.

That has to be one of the nicest-looking hat tricks ever, right? I know there was a thread about this one time.
I missed his third goal originally but when I saw he scored my first thought was “if the third was anything like the first two, that may be one of the most impressive hat tricks ever”. It was good, though not as nice as the first two. Still wrapping my mind around that tipped goal a day later.

There is another reality where Shanahan doesn't block Dubas from trading Knies for Fleury + Hagel and Leaf fans are ashamed of Knies breaking out on another team

Could you imagine that? Kyle has pulled some dumbass moves, but that trade would've been an absolute loser.

It's nice that the Leafs have finally drafted a scorer outside of the first round that seems to be living up to the hype.

Would it have actually been that bad? Knies is further along at age 22, but Hagel has been great since his second season in Tampa.

That 2nd goal was filthy!

Maybe, but it's also nice to grow your own talent. The Leafs need more of that.

I was going to say the same thing. He was a one man wrecking crew last night. Incredible hat trick.
Congrats on the hat trick.

But that tip, Zadorov let him go for a free skate to the net after whatever happened and Knies tried to get a call. Then McAvoy gives the puck to Matthews. Nice tip, but shouldn’t have been left open like that in the slot.

2nd goal. Soft Carlo. Dude sucks. Nice move tho. Swayman should have saved that also if he thinks he’s an $million goalie

3rd goal, was mostly Matthews winning a battle against McAvoy and finding Knies in the slot. Wide open. Again.

Knies was feeling it & Congrats on the hatty, but the Bruins suck, so not sure it counts ;)

He seems to always be a thorn in the side of the Bruins

A Matthew night for the leafs.
Trick for Knies.
Austin doing perfectly fine. The way he bolted after the puck and dove onto all fours to poke it in to an empty net! Nothing wrong with that guy.

Just what this thread needs, more Marner talk.

I’ll bet anyone $6 that Knies will be the best leaf this post season, regardless of how healthy the more marquee players are, and that he will become the favourite leaf player for many of their fans, even ahead of the marquee players after these upcoming playoffs.
