I’m actually surprised by this. I feel like Mackinnon’s rookie year, (Roy’s first year as coach) they did it a few times. They definitely scored a lot with the goalie pulled to tie, I guess it was just never twice in the same game.

Was gonna say the same. They must have scored 10+ goals with goalie pulled that year lol.

Am I the only one who doesn't have a problem with the Benson play? He gets pushed into Wedgie by Kelley, gets up and scores a goal. Are you honestly going to argue that if the roles were reversed that you'd want Kivi to just throw the puck into the crowd to get a whistle for the other teams goalie? Hell no! You play until the whistle.

Even Bednar admitted Kelley pushed him, he never once complained about Benson.

Maybe the coaching staff can use it as a point to stop f***ing pushing players into your own goalie. I have no idea why players keep doing it in the year of our lord 2025. Colton was pushed into UPL after his goal too. It's like players are seriously brain dead or they hate their goalies. I don't know why they never tried that with Georgiev though

If you see a clearly injured player you should stop the play if the refs haven't. I'd want an Avs player to do so. It's the right thing to do.

Earn your goals. And if you're not going to show class and are going to score in the empty net on hurt goalie sure as f*** don't t celebrate it.

Loved seeing the team rally after that adversity.

I think I've recovered from watching that. Only thing to add is I didn't have a problem with what Benson did on the goal either. Play to the whistle. We've been burned by that already this year.

Whether or not there should have been a whistle is a different argument (obviously yes).

To be fair to Benson, he might have had eyes on the puck and focused to do his thing as quickly as possible, before goalie gets in position. In other words, he might have not realized Wedgie got injured there or really put much thought into that possibility. It all played out in matter of few seconds after all.

That said, he should have realized something is off once he scored and saw Wedgewood still on ice, so the celebration of the goal was indeed shit move.

What a great game to be at. Crowd was dead until Benson and the refs woke us up.

Proud of Bednar for getting fired up and challenging a play he knew would not be overturned. Proud of the boys for responding and never giving up. That Buffalo timeout with 20 seconds left helped us out.

No way Mikko walks away from this team at the end of the year and no f***ing way he is traded. His agent is doing his job trying to get 14 million but at the end of the day Mikko has to tell that agent f*** off, I'm playing with these guys for under 13.

How do you not know something is up when you see the goalie is still down and out of position five seconds later.

I used to have a soft spot for the Sabres fanbase. Their steadfast belief that Eichel was actually a better pick than McDavid lasted for about half a season.

Then they had that one weirdo that insisted MacK was a product of linemates and Eichel was much better.
