Blue Jays GDT: Opening Day!

The Blue Jays just aren't a serious organization.

Why bring back Schneider, why bring back Atkins, why bring back Shapiro?

It's only the first series of the season and it's the same bullshit we saw last year and years prior.

It's crazy that this game was 100% winnable before the coach and GM decided to throw it away. That loss will be 100% on management. I don't want to see a single person criticize the players if the offense don't come back in the game.

This reminds me of 2021 when Tanner Roark was absolutely clown-pounded in the spring and Alek Manoah was unhittable and everyone knew that Roark would get killed if they gave him any starts ... and they did, and he was predictably pounded by the Rangers, and then we missed the playoffs that year by 1 game.

Argh.

Yanks finish with a team record 9 HRs in a game, downing the Brewers 20-9. I find it kind weird that with all the great Yankee teams, all the power guys they've had over the years teams like Muderers Row, Bronx Bombers etc never had a team over that figure, even the Jay's managed 10 in a game once against these same Orioles last year!

The bullpen stuff comes down to the fact the organization hasn’t drafted and developed pitching
Not even so much drafting since i can't recall a team that builds the pen through the draft.

It's all development. Teams have figured out quality innings from relievers comes from their stuff. Baltimore is showing it first hand given Dominguez , Cano and Soto all have nasty sinkers. Felix Bautista throws absolute gas with a gross splitter to compliment it. Tampa and the Yankees are other teams that have their pitching labs hone in on a specific trait.

Meanwhile you have the Jays, still throwing out a parade of average velocity there or absolute geezers like Trevor Richards in years past.

Shoutout to the dude in the front with his tarp off using it as a rally towel lmao.

At least somebody's having fun.

Edit: He's an O's fan too by the look the black/orange shirt.

Edit: There is zero chance that man is sober.

This team is a disaster. Vladdy looks like garbage, I know it’s a long season but for a guy who talked a ton in the spring he sure has been quiet when it matters. If he continues this he can cut his asking price in half. Bullpen is an abomination. Ladyboy, lady whatever his name is needs to be DFA’d immediately. And who the f was this Jacob Barnes guy?

If this is any sign of what’s to come this year massive changes are coming both in the dugout and in the FO

Same pattern Scherzer has followed since he signed in New York.

Start solid -> get hurt - > dominate rehab starts -> come back - repeat.

Thought it would take a bit to get to that point though. Yariel next man up i guess?

Would seem so. Which is generally anywhere from 3-5 runs over 4 innings. We need some more depth at AAA.

It's fine to have a guy you're going to use when you lose by 4-5 runs. Pretty much all teams have one and usually it's not a good pitcher but just a guy who will accept to throw many innings in a losing situation. But that guy should not pitch in a game you lead 4-2 like ever.

IMO the bigger issue is we aren't willing to use anyone for more than 1 inning. Both Sandlin and Little likely weren't available today. When your starter goes 3 innings that leaves 6 innings to be covered by 6 guys. Toss Yariel out there for 3 followed by Green, Garcia, Hoffman if winning after 6 is what I would have done but he hasn't exactly been inspiring either. If the plan is everyone goes 1 inning then you are kind of forced to use Lovelady and Barnes regardless. Might as well use them in the early innings rather than all the good arms and only have those 2 left for the last 2 innings.

It's easy to say Yarbrough would have been perfect for this game as the long man. We have a long man in Yariel and they're not using him for that purpose. I doubt much would have been different with Yarbrough on the roster either.

The annoying part for me is these 2 are the 7th and 8th best arms we have? I know Burr and Swanson are hurt. Nance, and Fluharty seem better to me, but it may have been much of the same. Using these trash arms while winning in the 4th just 3 days into the season is so frustrating

One of the weird things about what happened with Yarbrough that I didn't notice until now, is that Jacob Barnes salary is $1.4 million this season.

The reason why that's weird, is that the Rogers shills from Sportsnet gave the company reasoning after Yarbrough didn't make the team, that Barnes and Lovelady's spots are "fungible", so they didn't want to waste $2M on a fungible bullpen spot.

So Yarbrough at $2M is a waste, but Barnes at $1.4M isn't? At least if Barnes didn't make the team either, the company line would have actually been grounded in some reality. Barnes making the team either makes zero sense, or he signed an 45-day advanced consent which went unreported, in order to make the team (which Yarbrough didn't want to do).
