OOT scoreboard 2025 playoff edition

Barring any major moves, Carolina will return pretty much the exact same team next year. Their only UFAs of note are Roslovic, Robinson, Burns, and Orlov. I see Orlov and Robinson going back. Roslovic was scratched a lot in the playoffs and will want to cash in on his 20 goal season. Burns is old as f*** so maybe he retires or signs with a legit contender for cheap to chase a cup.

Burns retiring would actually help them quite a lot. I want him to play for as long as possible

Canes have a pretty damn good outlook for next year, ngl

Issue is I don't know how they improve, again a big move for a center is the idea and I still wouldn't move with Freddy/Kotchetkov in net for another year
They have a ton of cap space too, but their ownership is cheap I don't think they go after a big fish.

I just hope they don't sign Bennett

While its nice to gloat at the Canes the worrying thought is that we are built very similarly. What moves do we need to take to be able to beat Florida?

Would obviously help if NHL didnt allow Florida to play beyond physicality in the playoffs, reffing needs to be tightened up a little.

What? Devs have 0 similarity with the Canes

Rod crying in the hand shake line too
I saw that too. it looked like Maurice was forced to argue with him. It looked like Maurice was fielding negativity and his dander was raised.

Rod can never simply accept a simple fact. Your team played well and you still whine, complain, and what if it. It's really sad that a guy in his position can't take it like a man. Nope he can't do it. Instead he acts like a snively little kid.

Bennett is going to be an awful signing whoever gets him. They just spent time, money and picks on Kotkaniemi. They're not going to put 10M into Sam Bennett even though he destroyed them this series, that's the most anti Carolina move you can think of. They're going to try to get a guy at 2C who's either elite/on a bargain imo

Not be morons and go down the path of trying to build like Florida and instead go back to our 22-23 roots and hope Jack/Luke and company can legit survive a season.

Yeah agree, that was good looking NJ hockey.

Just bums me out that the NHL may allow Florida just to take speed and finesse away from the game in the playoffs and that hurts teams like Carolina, NJ and maybe Toronto the most.

Health will be our biggest deterrent, we're already seen it but the one year we got health we were an elite team when we had good depth. Hopefully next year's Markstrom is even better since he usually flip flops years between being meh and godly.

Canes are 10x more physical than us and it showed in 23 and this year. We're really soft up front and that worries me. Fitz has a lot of work to do.
The issue isn’t physicality. They cause trouble because they are aggressive on pinching. The answer to that is having healthy defensemen that can skate and move the puck quickly around their forecheck.

I get people thinking that. People see a heavy forecheck and automatically think physicality is the difference.

To put in football terms they are a blitz heavy team (think the 1980’s Bears). The answer to beating it is moving the ball quickly.

The Devils in 2023 looked light years better with Luke in the lineup when he came in for Graves. If Lindy was smart after G1, he would've made the move but he attributed the Game 1 loss to fatigue from G7 Rags win and scheduling like some of our fans did. Wish he was more proactive that series before it was too late.

Who knows how they look with a full lineup this year v Carolina too which is why I don't take any stock of what we did this year besides the great playoff games from Nico and Nemec (he's also the perfect dman to break the Canes aggressive forecheck)

Just a reminder if you are a playoff team your first round picks are pretty pointless to keep. Trade them for nhl talent to win now! That concludes my Ted talk
