OOT scoreboard 2025 playoff edition

Florida sure, but I'm not sure they get through two more rounds this year unless Thachuk has new bionic parts attached. A healthy Dallas I suppose though they did finish third in their own division. Edmonton, no they're not a great team - they're a very good team with a legendary player, another great player and good enough role players around them to potentially win with questionable goaltending.

Jets and Leafs are probably not going to win a Cup this year either fwiw, I don't know if I consider the Leafs great anyway, they're in the hall of the very good. The Jets have been a regular season paper tiger a la the Caps this year. I laugh at anyone considering Carolina a great team now when before the playoffs they were considered a decent team with a weak goalie (now an early favorite for the Smythe) and they've had a very kind draw through two rounds.

Well this is beyond wrong, they're one of the more stacked teams in the league. Of course, they have two of the best players in the league but so do the Avs and the Avs have been worse than the Oilers results besides when they had the best roster of the salary cap era. They made the West Final without their 1D in Ekholm, have gotten depth scoring this year from guys like Henrique, got a series winner from Kasperi f***ing Kapanen, etc.

What does Tkachuk having to be hurt have to do with how good Florida is? This just feels like a woe is me post like people do here when the Rangers are still somehow in to undermine them yearly instead we're now doing it for the Canes. If the Canes win the cup, they'd be full deserving of it with the other teams left regardless of how much of layups the mash unit Devils and Capitals were the first 2 rounds.

Dallas might be the only team I see beating Carolina at this point because of the Rantanen factor tbh but it would be the most annoying troll of all if they somehow did beat the Stars, it kinda feels like they've been touched by the hockey gods again just like in 2006 when they got to beat a Sabres team with no healthy defense left in Game 7, then a Cinderella Oilers team playing their third-string goalie in the Finals also in Game 7.

Of course if Freddie gets injured again then they're probably boned but he only has to make it through another ten games or so.

Lol the Oilers would mangle the Canes in a series, stop it.

I highly doubt it. We won one game. The series wasn't even close. Just because it was a little more competitive than the fraud caps series doesn't mean we would have won it with Jack. I do think it would have been closer though. Maybe we get two wins.

What? Lol

Game 2 was a 3-1 game that they won because of our 0-15 powerplay not coming through and literally being a NET NEGATIVE in the series.

Game 4 was 3-0 at the start of the second and then became 3-2 late 2nd for the rest of the game until Markstrom gave up a bad goal with 5 mins left and then empty net, that game was closer than the score showed. And again the Devils powerplay had chances to tie it and failed

Game 5, they had a 3-0 lead and just blew it because of Markstrom decided to shit his pants + their special teams failed them (shocker)

Only game they didn't belong on the ice was Game 1

Like I feel you guys are forgetting how good Jack simply is, our powerplay is probably scoring at a 15-20% clip with him in this series. They outscored Carolina 5v5 with utter dogshit, that alone tells me that they probably win that series their superstar 1C who's shown he can play against Carolina in the playoffs before

Yea I mean the sole fact that Bratt is playing with Jack versus the carcasses of Haula and Mercer is a huge difference

Assuming Florida and Dallas win, I can’t see the Canes beating any of the remaining teams. All of those teams can play heavy and quick. The only concern would be the Oilers and it’s strictly because of their goaltending. But they are still getting their best defensive defenseman back in Ekholm no? He should definitely be back for the finals if they can get past Dallas.

I love Jack as much as anyone but I don’t think we can realistically say we would have beat them for sure if we had him for the series. It definitely would have been a better series but we were certainly no guarantee to win that series even fully healthy. Canes are our kryptonite it seems.

I also think we should be careful assuming we can breeze through to the ECF next year. I think that’s discounting a lot of factors we have no idea about. Sure, we will get better. But there’s no doubt other teams will too and we will still have to slay this Canes monster if we ever expect to go far. Our best shot would be to win the division and hope Carolina finishes 2 or 3 and is ousted by the other metro team.

If Edmonton makes it there’s no way McDavid is coming that close to the cup and letting it slip away for the second year in a row, especially against Carolina of all teams.

Yup, Nico-Meier and Jack-Bratt is a masssssssssssssssive difference compared to...what they had. It's not just Jack himself that would've made a huge difference, but the pairings itself would've had a completely different impact

We can all say the series would have been better and it probably would have been but when it comes to injuries the main reason we had a chance in the last two games is also Fragile Freddie falling on the ice in Game 4 - and a better Devils team also got smoked by them two years ago. And in some ways it's easier to get guys to play when there's no pressure and you're the underdog (witness: the difference between the 2022-23 seasons and most of the last two years, hell even Carolina this year's been a bit more under the radar compared to other seasons).

There were a lot of people (not me) who thought Washington would beat Carolina, so I absolutely wouldn’t count them out of winning the cup yet.

I’d probably pick Edmonton and Dallas over them. Not Winnipeg. I think I’d pick Florida over them, but absolutely not Toronto. Although Toronto could beat them if they get past Florida I guess.

The Caps were frauds all year long, which is why I was surprised anyone would count on their fake asses to take down Carolina.

I did think they’d score more on Freddie than we did, but they somehow managed to look even worse than the Devils skeleton crew at pretty much everything.

I’m firmly back on the “Oilers will win one of the next three cups” drum that I was banging before last season. I still think they win one of the next two.

I did pick them to lose to LA in round one this time. Between Skinner Skinnering and them looking a bit weaker and being due to be taken down by LA, I thought they’d go out to LA this time.

I don’t trust Skinner to not start Skinnering again, but they could go back to Pickard by then if he’s available.

I just hope they don’t give Skinner the Daccord/Blackwood/Lankinen/Hill extension after this year. And they better at least make sure they win the cup this year if they do it, as I don’t like their chances of continuing these long playoff runs with Skinner.

Much like the little success Vegas is having with Adin Hill after the lone cup run with him.

The healthy NJ team spilt the season series with them. I think at worst they lose in 7 games but I think it’s more likely NJ wins. Just my thought: Carolina did not push NJ around this time and if NJ isn’t having to run Hischier and Doumilin out every other shift the team woul not have run out of gas the way they did in multiple games.
