OOT scoreboard 2025 playoff edition

That defense is on par with 2010 Lou rosters outside of Fox, you're underrating how bad the defensive core is while they're all locked in for next year at this point and K'Andre Miller is RFA.

And there's no reason the Habs can't do what the Capitals did this year and have their youth taste playoffs and then improve on it. They're also getting a full year of Demidov, might be active in getting players now since they're turning the mend on their rebuild.

I don't get why this board treats the Rags as a boogeyman, there's better teams in the East with younger players/cores. A superstar goalie does not move especially at his salary.
The Habs are probably taking a huge step back. They were percentage driven even more than the Caps. The Caps had good underlyings just not 2nd in the league good. The Habs were at the bottom of the league. They have a good future, but next year screams step back before stepping forward year.

Also should be an expectation to make the ECF. There is no reason they cant get through the Metro bracket next year
Agreed. But odd things can happen in the playoffs. That’s why organization should set expectation on regular season results. The goal is to be one of the half dozen contenders for the cup. Winning the division puts you in that.

The Capitals were mediocre to bad analytically as well in 23-24 and were great this year standings wise. Their youth got a taste of the playoffs in a series versus the Rags which was a sweep. No reason to think the Habs can't do the same with a way better group of younger players than Washington has. It's also the Habs, they'll attract good guys if they see the rebuild is legit working. Just like how this board talks up the Rags UFA route consistently lol

Those folks outside should get inside soon lmao

Meh. Not concerned about this.

The rest of their roster is absolute garbage. And I don't know if Suzuki and Caufield have another level. Slafkovsky probably does.

They're not a boogeyman. They're a bubble team, they have a superstar goalie and a decent forward corps, plus a top pairing D. I would definitely bet on them over Montreal.

I mean a lot of had to do with their revamped backend, that should stay the same. The issue is how you replenish the star power of an Ovechkin/Wilson as they're getting older but still productive regular season wise. Maybe this year helps them attract guys to Washington, who knows
Yes and you can’t really predict about next year right now except for generalities. They’ll likely be competitive. Fairly big and heavy and at the same time athletic, built from the goal out and with strong goaltending at that.

Do you think the absence of Fearaevary (spelling?) was a factor in this series?

This is where they have to do work obviously, if management thinks they're closer to their window opening they'll make the corresponding moves. They also have an elite goalie prospect on the way. I'm always going to take the bet of a younger core over an older aged core that has quit on multiple coaches. There's already rumors that Kreider/Zibanejad are blocking any trade out of NY, how do you improve that roster if you're NYR?

I didn't watch this series at all to notice enough of him as a player so I can't comment on it. I remember he was a really good piece in the playoffs last year v NYR. I've been on high on their defensive core all year, I do agree with people here that their forwards are pretty lucky f***s with the shooting % but finishing is a skill and we'd all kill for the Devils to have the same scoring touch. I think they'll fall back to the bubble next year.

Saw the replay of the offsides goal in caps game. Good review he was offsides and I agree with the rule it makes sense having it imo

My hot take why even have linesmen call offsides? Any close call that results in a goal will be reviewed and the other 99% of the time no one can tell if the play is offsides or not but we take their word when they blow the play dead. How many plays were blown dead but really onside? Game would def have less stoppages and I bet there’s a good amount of onsides plays being called offsides. I guess you can have them blow obvious offsides to eliminate teams not being sportsman

why the division rounds are so whackly stupid canes cakewalk to the conference then a team like leafs or panthers have to walk a minefield
Well the 1v4 matchup in the conference would have been Caps vs Canes.

Although Florida vs Canes would have been a first round matchup (but maybe Florida tries more to beat out the Lightning for 3 seed).

Is it a ridiculous thing to say we put up a significantly better fight then WSH did (and we had Luke, Jack OUT) plus an insanely banged up Jesper, Dougie, Pesce, Siegs at the very least

Makes me feel better about our team
It makes me feel better about Keefe to be honest. I've been really hard on him all season, but he really got these guys to play their hearts out against a superior team (considering the injuries and lack of depth).

Give him a better squad, stay healthy and we may be onto something.

Yes, but it doesn’t really make me feel better because the issues with the team are still the issues with the team. The worry even before the injuries was depth, not our top players not stepping up. So giving them a fight by our top players stepping up doesn’t really change things. Maybe if they had put up a fight with more depth contributions you would feel better, but it is still an Achilles heel.

I mean people had questions of Nico's playoff production after 2023, he was a defensive wizard that year but he wasn't producing much even though he was caving lines in. This year, he took the next step. That's promising to me. Jack's loss also couldn't be understated because Bratt had to play with f***ing Mercer/Haula in the series and was double and tripled teamed on shifts. He was also the only person on the powerplay who could do anything worth while. The depth does suck ass but it's something that's fixable. Having a rotten core is way worse to fix, ask Toronto or NYR.

Not to be that person but…

NJD
6 goals vs Anderson (5 5v5, 1 4v4)
5 goals vs Kochetkov (5 5v5)

CAR
6 goals vs Anderson (4 5v5, 2 PP)

Anderson has been great so far.

Carolina is so boring they score on their own goalie :sarcasm::laugh:

Love ya, Gutter. Just had to point it out lol, but agreed Freddy has been awesome. f***ing insane that he turned into a pumpkin last year.

Interesting third coming up in WPG, Otter kept Dallas in this game where they should probably be up 3-0 or 4-0 as is but I wonder if Dallas even cares and tries to clinch at home
