OT: Off-Topic, again.

I only had to mow into early October here and just recently started again about two weeks ago which is very nice, much less mowing than in Murfreesboro. In fact we just got green back on the trees here last week. We came down to TN and KY twice in the last two months and noticed a very distinct difference in foliage as soon as we were on the other side of Indianapolis.

But here's the thing, I had this feeling that I was noticing my neighbor (sweet old lady) would come out and mow her yard within an hour or two of me finishing mine. So I started paying attention to it, and sure enough, every time I mow, it's followed up by her mowing shortly after.

Obviously there's no harm in this matter, it's just kind of amusing to me now. If anything I wonder if she doesn't have a good sense of when her yard needs to be mowed and is just following my cue? I'll take it either way because the neighbor on the other side hasn't mowed a single time in the nine months I've been here!
I have seen this too, but I always thought it was sort of a "don't want my yard to look even slightly scruffy in comparison" kind of thing? Because as soon as yours looks fresh and perfect, the neighbor's looks slightly worse by comparison, even though in reality it doesn't need to be mowed again yet either. :dunno:

I can't imagine thinking that way, but I get the sense some people do? :dunno:

I’m so glad to not have to deal with yard anymore!

Google Maps says the drive is 3 hrs 13 mins.

Your drive time would be a round trip.

I have driven from Nashville to Chattanooga and the reverse. It wasn't a real long drive.
This happened 20 miles SE of Greenback on the border with North Carolina. Time wise or not, that's still over 200 miles from us considering it wasn't actually in Greenback, that was just the nearest town.

I heard that there was a magnitude 4 earthquake near Knoxville. Did people feel it in Middle Tennessee?
I didn't here in Hermitage BUT I have felt rumbles in the past here. Nothing major, I just knew that was what it was.

When I was in college (UT Knoxville) I was hanging out my apartment window cleaning it (ha ha! would NOT do that these days) and I felt the building shake. I told my roommate I thought maybe it was an earthquake but as per usual she looked upon me with something of a side eye, "Yeah right" So, determined to prove her wrong and me right, I got a newspaper and sure enough it had made the front page news. So there,
Elise!

Well, some years ago we had a satellite in a thermovac chamber where we were putting it through it's paces. A (somewhat minor) earthquake happened while we were running tests. We could actually see the simulated stellar source shift on our detectors purely caused by the vibration of the chamber from the mini-quake. I guess that stuff happens all the time, but we probably got more mileage out of putting up "Earthquake Happened HERE" arrows on slides than it was ever really worth. :dunno:

It was the summer of 1980 in Cincinnati. I was reading the Sunday paper about 9 AM. I felt the house shake for a few seconds. I lived on a hill, so I thought it was a gust of wind pushing against the house.

After about 10 or 15 seconds, the chandelier above the dining room table began swinging back and forth like somebody had pushed it about 6 inches. I went to the front window and the trees were not moving. There was no breeze coming through the screen door. I turned to my summer roommate Kevin and said "This is an earthquake!". He said "You ARE crazy!" I said "I just finished a Geology class a few weeks ago." The house shook the second time for 30 seconds or so. It was more violent than the first shaking.

About 90 minutes later, the local news radio station said that there was a 5 centered on Mayville, Kentucky, about 50 miles away.

The other roommate was asleep after an 8 hour round trip to Toledo for a job interview on Saturday. Poor Dave, he missed the whole thing!

I've felt others although not this one. Most of the ones around here that are reported are actually cave collapses most of the time. Ton of caves and voids in this limestone.

You know, that could have been the same one. I know it was warm outside and I was living in that apartment in the summer of 1980. Yet another similarity, ha!

I found July 27th, 1980, magnitude 5.1.

That must be the one!

What I found said there were 3 earthquakes felt in Cincinnati during 1980. The others were more like 2 or 3 in magnitude. Most people would not feel those.

(I was in the Palm Springs area in the late 1990s for a 3. I was outside and heard the rocks fracture, a sharp crack like distant thunder, but no rumble. I did not feel any ground motion. We were going to dinner. The newspaper the next day said it happened around 7 PM. I was just steps from our rental car when it happened.)

So, anyone going to AC/DC Tuesday? The weather tomorrow night is stressing us out- looks absolutely awful and hitting at the worst possible time. Plus we are driving up and back from Birmingham same day- ugghh

Just praying the weather doesn't completely ruin the night. I wish they could move it to Wednesday- weather looks perfect that night.

As a diehard fan of AC/DC going back multiple decades, I will be there. Tickets were procured the day they went on sale. From what I can gather, the band will make every effort to play this show, and it may take a tornado actually touching down on Nissan for them to postpone it. Hyperbolic exaggeration, perhaps, but that's the mindset. I wish they would delay a day, but logistics from various directions apparently complicates matters. We'll be there in ponchos, hoping for the best.

Same here- moving it to Wednesday would have been perfect but I guess that is not going to happen at this point. I do think many people are underplaying/missing the point on the weather. While it does look like that by the time they actually go on stage- around 8:30-9:00) there is a good chance the bad storms will be over. But the real problem is there are going to be 50,000+ people heading downtown hours before that, when the bad stuff is supposed to be hitting. If something bad does come through, where are 50,000 people in a very small area supposed to go??

I hope it doesn't happen but the absolute worst case scenario is them cancelling just hours before when everyone is already either downtown or headed downtown.

Just horrible, horrible timing- practically any other time this week would have been just fine- I guess all we can do is just hope for the best- like you, there is no way I am missing this

Per Nissan Stadium social media, the show has been postponed until tomorrow due to inclement weather. It'll be inconvenient for people traveling long distances for this, but it's for the best.
